For you road trippers in North America, don't forget about the Miami race in 2022. I think it's in May on a new circuit in the Dolphin's Stadium parking lot.

Pretty sure this one is more than sold out already. Could be wrong.

So in the last 4 laps, Hamilton had a 12 second lead erased by an accident, his competitor was able to change tires, and the race stewards cleared out all the traffic between them.

…but We WaNtEd To EnD It WiTh RaCiNg

Yes but not all racing is the same or even fair. Lewis built up a lead that was erased by the stewards and Max having fresh soft tires. It really wasn't racing at all. It was a forgone conclusion.

Agree completely, if that wasn't clear. I feel like MB left Hamilton out there on old tyres because they knew the rules and assumed the race would finish with the safety car. The rules changed and Hamilton didn't have a chance.

This is the point that blows up the argument that MB chose to not pit so the difference between Hamilton's tires and Max's was on MB.

They should've pit in the first yellow. I agree with the decision on the second, obviously. Lewis was worried about those tires early

If that was the reason MB decided to keep Lewis out there, they would have said it on the radio. Instead they said it was not wanting give up track position.

I guess ok..but still the rules were not followed.

In your opinion…besides saying "we don't wanna give up track position" could mean the same thing as "we believe we have this thing wrapped up so no need to pit"

Honestly with the way Latifi's car was positioned I was expecting a red to be thrown just so they didn't end under yellow and Max and Hamilton could have a standing start race to decide it. Would've been better than what happened. I wanted Mercedes to lose but it's pretty clear Masi disregarded the rules and just did what he wanted. If anything legal comes of this, his "we're moto racing" comment to Toto isn't gonna do him any favors either

Just answer this….would y'all want the race to be decided by the drivers and teams or the race director?

This specific incident, not previous inconsistencies. Those have no bearing on this one.

Am I correct that Lewis would have stayed in P1 if he pitted and Max stayed out under yellow? So what is the downside to pitting for fresh tires? The MB car was clearly faster and I believe would have held P1 if they had.

The next season of Drive to Survive is going to be pretty interesting. I imagine it's going be be about 30% just straight swearing and cussing by Toto Wolff and Christian Horner

What a season and what a finish. Felt necessary to give a shout out to Bottas. Rarely ever gets any recognition and most people assume he's an average driver in an elite car, but numbers wise he's literally the reason MB won the constructors. Out drove Checo pretty much the entire season and Checo gets a ton of credit for being a great 2nd seat while Bottas gets crapped on. Glad he got a final podium last week.

I had forgotten why I gave up on F1 years ago, today reminded me. I wasn't rooting against Max, but they bent the rules to make it more exciting. That's garbage IMO. You don't want a race ending under yellow or don't want Max to have to pass three or four cars on the last lap (after he was already given back 12 seconds) change the rules for next year…but this is what F1 does, which is petty much whether it wants. And then finds a way to rationalize it.

Hope MB sues and lays bare how the circuit operates.

/end nerd F1 rant.

I think they got it wrong, Hamilton and Mercedes have every right to be angry. The vibe on this board would be very different had the roles been reversed with Max being in the lead and getting passed by Lewis. If they really wanted to end on racing they should have red flagged it.

Max doesn't let the Netflix cameras follow him so they will need to find a way to show his celebration. May be just footage from Horner

So what's the solution here then? It looks like the rules weren't followed and Mercedes has a valid complaint. I mean they aren't going to reverse the championship standings are they?

Mercedes lost the title by not pitting for tires. IMO, a standing start would have led to a crash and an even more controversial finish.

Moreover than that, karma for not penalizing Lewis for the clear advantage he gained by cutting the corner. He pinched Max hard and cut the corner when he had space on the kerb. Total karma.

The British announcers are so biased and make me miss Varsha and Machett. So much better of a crew.

Of course I want the race decided on the track by the drivers. And I think Merc has a legit gripe. It sucks that the season ended under controversy.

This situation, on this board, reminds me of Election 2020 conversations. Despite everyone seeing the same thing there are opinions about what happened that are so different they can only be explained by bias.

The right decision should've been to red flag it. But that's just my opinion.

I agree. Red flag was the way to go. Get everyone on the tire of their choice and let them race.

The rules have been flexed every race. Why are you isolating it to this one event. It's already happened this weekend, last weekend, weekend before that. So this time it goes against what you wanted and you're clearly bias about it.

Complain about the inconsistency of rules enforcement the entirety of F1.

They void the race.

And then Max wins the championship.

No reason for a red flag there.

Masi dropped the ball but a red flag would've been a weird call influenced by the championship just as much as this restart was.

No qualms as a Tifosi about Merc tears.

I think a red flag would have been the best way. And if that was the case, I think Lewis wins.

When the wreck happened, I thought a red would be the only way they'd be able to finish under green. Was kind of surprised that they didn't throw it.

Another thing about this is someone (maybe Masi maybe someone higher up) made the call to let the lapped cars pass after Masi had previously told Horner that they weren't going to. Just seemed really weird to say that and then suddenly BAM safety car ending and everyone pass

Another protest is Max possibly overtaking Merc under the safety car. Of course Ham was playing games on the throttle (as pretty much everyone does so I'm not taking a shot at Ham) and Max probably should have been further back, but to decide the championship on something like that seems really ticky tack as there was no advantage gained even if Max nudged ahead by a few inches for less than a second because Ham had a car length when the safety car ended.

Absolutely. I think Hamilton would have passed Max at some point because MB was just so fast. But it would have been 1) the right call and 2) more fun.
