First season watching F1 and I've loved it. Also got to attend the Austin race. Thinking about next year.

It's shocking how much power race control has.

Who's going to Canada?

Best part of that race was seeing all that Checo has in him while battling to keep Hamilton behind him to allow Max to gain time. That was incredible!

Agree. Great stretch of racing.

In the past the safety car would've made 1 more lap to let the lapped cars off and the race would've ended under caution.

And that would've been terrible. They let them finish racing. Not sure how that makes anyone (but MB) mad.

Because it's not consistent.

Which has been a theme this year with the rulings so it's probably perfect that it ended that way.

You mean like max having to give a spot back 3 times last week but Lewis gaining about a second today going off track and not having to concede squat?

So in the last 4 laps, Hamilton had a 12 second lead erased by an accident, his competitor was able to change tires, and the race stewards cleared out all the traffic between them.

Haven't seen anything like this since Hamilton passed Glock at the last corner to win his first championship in Brazil 2008. This was even more dramatic.

Yes but not all racing is the same or even fair. Lewis built up a lead that was erased by the stewards and Max having fresh soft tires. It really wasn't racing at all. It was a forgone conclusion.

It's not unfair to Lewis that some wrecked and brought out a safety car. It's unlucky. But that's racing. Happens many times a season.

Did the stewards tell MB they couldn't pit Hamilton?

MB had two obvious opportunities to pit when they opted to stay out.

and then masi has the nerve to spit in toto's face and say "its a motor race, we went racing"

Nothing but contrived drama for netflix. Its sickening and id imagine its a huge turnoff to all the first time watchers that tuned in today

If the remaining laps were handled like they were in the past the accident and safety car would have insured Lewis's win.

No it's not. The BS on the first lap might have been. But a dramatic come-from-behind finish? No one is hating that except die hard MB fans.

I think it would be very exciting for first time viewers. They don't have any bias going in. So it's just crazy fun for them.

Lol Hamilton could've pitted under either yellow but didn't.

Toto asked race control to not put a real sc out during the VSC to keep their lead instead of worrying about safety.

**** Merc. Don't hate seeing a race break against them.

"Don't put a real SC out, it'll kill our lead"

"That's dangerous driving Masi, what are you letting them do" when Checo was racing his heart out to keep Ham behind

Toto spits in the face of Masi/etc on the regular.

Been thinking of a road trip for that race for a long time. It's a 9hr drive from DC. Finally an empty nester, but I know #1 son would join me if not for his #2 coming in May. If I take #1; she might be a bit of buzz kill in the F-Type. Though she didn't raise an eyebrow out in Utah at 120 in my XK a few years ago. There was no traffic iether way, Rd was flat as pancake with a wide shoulder so she couldn't quite feel it.

Good race this one. Thought Hamilton had it in the bag.

So ALL lapped cars must pass and the safety car will come in the FOLLOWING lap. Pretty clear the way it went down was against the rules. That race should have ended under yellow with Lewis winning. Really amazing that a diversion from the rules and any consistency leads to the race director choosing who wins the Championship.

Mick tapped Latifi for that yellow. Seems eerily familiar to that meme about preventing Hamilton an 8th and surpassing his father.

They could even get the results back from the last lap, but I feel like that will be hard to achieve. These next few weeks will be extremely interesting because we can be sure Mercedes aren't going to just give it away.

Mick and Latifi were racing clean, Latifi went offline and into the dirty track and spun out by himself several corners after.

You just now realizing that rules are never consistently enforced?

You do know Hamilton should've been punished in P3 for nearly causing an accident to the Haas car, right?

What about last race, Hamilton didn't slow down for the double yellow?

Agree completely, if that wasn't clear. I feel like MB left Hamilton out there on old tyres because they knew the rules and assumed the race would finish with the safety car. The rules changed and Hamilton didn't have a chance.

Ok. Interesting. Basically we messed up and it would be "clear and obvious" Lewis would have own in such a situation.

For you road trippers in North America, don't forget about the Miami race in 2022. I think it's in May on a new circuit in the Dolphin's Stadium parking lot.
