He is currently enrolled again at Texas A&m but not on the roster.
The ones transferred were Jamal Walton and Thomas Burns

Remember Charokee Young can run 800m too, so she gives us option for a 4x800

My my my, they might as well change the name to The Texas A&M relays at Mike Meyers Stadium lol! Hopefully our team can rest the Arizona meet, get our relays qualified at Texas Relays and get all our athletes qualified at home on our fast track!! Outdoor is going to be a whole lot of fun!

@Triniaggie - yes I agree on Madabuike as I have been touting her all week. Healthy - she's my choice for fastest on the team as she was a (11.5 HS )sprinter but until her training and health catch up she won't be on the opening squad. I think she will indeed anchor if she gets back to par. Laila will be on it at some point but not how she's running now.. EOY I would say: Aliu, Owens, Ivey, Madabuike. Jaevin Reed was a 22.8 sprinter her sophomore year but I sure she will be reserved for the 400 and long relay.

@Taylorswift13 I agree both 4x800s will be rewritten in the Aggie record book. I didn't realize Jean was still here but for sure she is a leg. Charokee would have made a better leg in the 4x800 but I'm sure they may be holding her for either the dist med and 4x400 or both. The relay carnival will be interesting this year. You just never know with Austin weather though: hail, rain, and scorching heat all within 3 days is not out of place during Texas Relays.

I get a World Athletics Newsletter email and it had this about Athing Mu's Indoor 400 U20 World Record:

Rejected / unratifiable
U20 women's indoor 400m: 50.52 Athing Mu (USA) College Station 6 Feb 21
(No doping control)

Yeah that was ridiculous, because the drug testing wasn't proper or up to standards they rejected her record, it's complete BS

Thanks. I think he was pretty active in the Sully thing so I thought he was gone. Do you know if there is any chance for him to be back outdoors?

Thought I'd inform us on some noticeable performances from our track signees competing this season!
Bailey Goggans ran a 2:07.84 open 800 indoors , and was part of a 4x800 relay that broke the U20 Indoor World Record
Heather Abadie pole vaulted 13'9 which would have placed 6th in the SEC Championship
Caleb Murdock pole vaulted 16'0
Kennedy Wade has run a 55.05 outdoors
Bryce Foster has thrown 64'7.25 in the shot put and 200'10 in the discus
Robert Whitmarsh ran 48.78 as he's training for the 800 where his PR is 1:51

Goggans should be scoring in the 800 and offers depth for a DMR, a female pole vaulter is something we've been lacking and can really help us solidify a strong women's team and I expect Bryce Foster to come in and score some big points outdoors for us with his strength he should easily adjust to the heavier implements!

Ivy has taken a job in DFW so she is no longer on the team.

It's unfortunate about Mu's 400 record though I must admit no one probably thought that would happen at a random regular season meet. There are significant protocols that must be done for a WR to be ratified. That sort of setup is usually only done when people are anticipating a WR to be broken ahead of time. I do hope Arkansas had them in place for her 800 though.

I hope Bryce Deadmon is more careful at the NCAA meet. He ran a lot of the SEC 400 final in lane 2 - cost him several tenths.

It is really nice to have a Pole Vaulter who can score. Now we need a descent shot putter, hammer and weight thrower. I can't recall the last time we made the NCAAs and score in the shot and hammer. We had Miles Garrett sister on the team some years ago Brea Garrett and she developed in to great weight thrower and won the NCAA indoors. I think we missed a great opportunity to build off of Brea Garrett success and recruit some descent hammer and weight throw athletes.

Florida and LSU is putting a lot of effort into the men's weight throw and it has been adding significant points for them

Yeah Bryce was over confident and didn't go all out for the pole which was surprising, and it really hurt him! If he won that pole at the end of the first lap and controlled the race he easily could have won! Better to learn that in conference than at nationals lol

Exactly the vaulter is going to help tremendously, especially if she can come her and get tk the 14 range! And we've really been lacking a women thrower, it's sad how after Shelbi Vaughn and Brea Garret, we haven't really had a dominant thrower, hopefully a good jav season and Bryce's national presence will help us recruit more throwers! There's a large crop of female high schoolers in Texas coming up, hopefully we can land some!

I don't know where we will get to run 4 x 800. Texas Relays is running a traditional meet schedule this year with no relays other than 4 x 1 and 4 x 4.
taylorswift13

Oh wow didn't realize they changed the schedule a couple of days ago, and no high school competition either! Here's a link of the schedule! https://s3.amazonaws.com/texassports_com/documents/2021/2/25/2021_Texas_Relays_Schedule_Final_02_24_21.pdf
I wonder if Tyra will have the gas to compete in a heptathlon 2 weeks after indoor nationals! This is where she usually got her qualifying mark but they may push her back! Hopefully the quality of competition remains since the meet is being scaled back!

Yup, Tyra is a fiery competitor and loves the crowd reaction... even with Covid the home crowd can give her a boost especially in the 800 where she needs us!

Just in time for outdoor season, mandates lifted. Missed getting out of the house and going to some of the meets around the area/state.

Unfortunately, I don't think Abbott's order makes too much of a difference. It's going to depend on what the conference office says.

The Coaches Participant list to Review for the NCAA Indoor track and field Championship 2021 is listed

The big news is that Athing Mu has scratched from the 800 and would be doing the 400m.
Syaria Richardson has made the top 16 in the 400m because the previous 16th seed has scratched and she was 17th

The other good news is that Laila Owens previously ranked 17th has made it into the top 16 in the 200m because of 3 scratches ahead of her her. Immanuela Aliu ranked 24th moved up to 20th and just missed top 16 by 0.07 seconds. Something a little push to the finish line could mean a qualifying position or not.

Kaylah Robinson does not move up from her 21st position with no scratches ahead of her. in the 60m hurdle
Zhane Smith ended in 20th spot with no scratches in from of her in the long jump

Other women's qualifiers are Tyra Gittens (Penthalon, high jump and long Jump), Lamara Distin in high jump and Deborah Acquah in the long and Triple jump

On the men side
Because of 6 scratches ahead of him 22nd ranked Lance Broome should make it as the 16th qualifier in the 200m

The sad news is the SEC 800 champion Brandon Miller does make it. He was ranked 19th and with only 1 scratched ahead of him he will end up 18th. Really sorry he had to miss a couple meets and only came back for SEC championship. Allon Clay makes it as the 14th qualifier

Connor Schulman ended up 24th in the 60m hurdles

The other men qualifiers are Darius Clark in the long jump, Men's 4x400 and Bryce Deadmon in the 400m.

Let's hope after the final coaches review we have a few more scratches

The good things for the Aggies is that they have been on the Arkansas track for two meets already so that should help a lot.

I haven't checked out the list, but that can only mean Pat Henry wants to get over 16 points in the 400 to take points away from Arkansas there!! I'm about to go through the list and check out scoring outlook for us and Arkansas! And at least Mu can now get her collegiate record in the 400!

Here is a breakdown between us and Arkansas based solely on who's been entered and not scratched to compete at nationals! Obviously Arkansas has the benefit of the doubt in the numbers game as they have many girls entered, but we just have too many girls towards the top to give us the edge.
Ironically based on the rankings entered into the meet, we edge them by ONE point lol. But that does not take into consideration that Charokee Young hasn't ran an open 400 in a while, or how Lamara Distin was stopped before attempting 6+, or how we just saw Katie Izzo lose in the 5000, or how Deborah Acquah didn't get to improve on her marks at Conference.
As we all know track meets can be wild and have many unexpected outcomes as there are many variables that go into a race every day! But I really like our chances here to surpass this point projection, and come out on top! By having Mu run the 400, this one saves her legs for the 4x400, two let's her get a record, and 3 gives Arkansas less chance to score. If Syaira can run the open 400 like she did on the record relay she can very possibly move into the top 8 and we can score 16-18 points in the 400 alone completely shutting out Arkansas! Hopefully Lamara is healthy and can jump 6'1 as that should almost guarantee a 4th! If we can sneak Jania or Laila into the 200 finals that can be a cherry on the pie, as well as, Arkansas getting beat in the distance events! Especially since they are doing the DMR and it's on day one, Arkansas can be held back a little!
These are not official given there can still be some scratches or medical scratches, but I feel good about our ladies bringing home a 10th track and field national title and 1st woman's indoor title back to Texas A&M! Sorry if the post is long or takes up too much space, I love data and track lol!

Athing is a cold blooded killa, instead of stepping on the track and striding out the straightaway like everyone else she just walks to lane one

Update... Syaira Richardson has been pulled from the 400! If Young can go low 51 and take down Talitha Diggs and Mu wins it like she should we could still have 18 points in the event! Saving Syaira for the 4x400 especially after not racing for a month can help her!

Richardson simply did not make the list. The person she tied with made it and she did not.

It is strange to rank someone 17th in the descending order list and then the 18th ranked gets in before the 17th ranked person. It must have been an error or something different they used to break the tie in terms of time (going to the hundredth of second). Maybe in some cases they used the second best time.

17 Syaira Richardson SR Texas A&M 52.51A
18 Nicole Yeargin SR USC 52.51A

My only concern is that some of the athletes are presently in home isolation and would only be back out just before the championship but I know they will give it their best shot.

Nice to see the 4x 400 relay list and it looks good for both men and women and again the issue some wouldn't have trained for some time.

Texas A&M 3:06.28
1) #545 Jake Lanier JR 2) #548 James Smith JR
3) #547 Moitalel Mpoke JR 4) #543 Bryce Deadmon SR
5) #544 Omajuwa Etiwe FR 6) #546 Brandon Miller FR

Texas A&M 3:26.27
1) #534 Jania Martin JR 2) #539 Charokee Young SO
3) #537 Syaira Richardson SR 4) #535 Athing Mu FR
5) #538 Tierra Robinson-Jones JR 6) #536 Laila Owens FR

In situations where there is a tied mark the NCAA goes to second best mark to break it. In events like high jump and pole vault it can even go down to what attempt you made the bar.

Given how deep we are for both the men and women for the 4x400, is there is any reason why we couldn't enter two teams at the outdoor SEC championship (as long as we don't exceed the squad size limit)? I could easily see a men's B team running around 3:06 and the women's B under 3:31. That should score valuable points in both cases.

Only 1 relay team per event per school can qualify for NCAA.
We do have the capability of having two very good relay teams per gender

Athlete PB split realistic improvement diffeential
Jania Martin 52.5 52.1 0.4
Charokee Young 51.1 50.7 0.4
Syaira Richardon 51.9 51.2 0.7
Athing Mu 50.0 49.5 0.5

I can envision this!! Especially with Mu not running the 800 and being fresher, Syaira being completely fresh as well! A chance a Jania doesn't crack the 200 finals and can be fresh, and after she dropped a 23.17 that improvement should only lead to more! And hopefully Charokee's been able to train through all this Covid drama, so she'll have a fresh pair of legs!! And right now she's listed as the 2nd leg so with Jania staying in it or near the top Charokee can get to lane one and have a fresh Syaira run in lane one and possibly Arkansas or USC can push Mu into a 49!
taylorswift13

Start lists are up! Athing Mu gets a lane 4 draw but she is in the same heat with Charokee Young who gets lane 6! Laila Owens and Jania Martin are in the same 200 hundred heat in lane 5 and 6 respectively! The long jump will have Deborah Acquah, NCAA leader Ruth Usoro, then Tyra Gittens all back to back to back in the prelims! And the girls get lane 5 in the 4x400! Overall excellent legs for our girls! Bryce Deadmon got another lane 6 pull, so hopefully he fights harder for the pole position this time, and our men's relay will begin in lane 3! Lance Broome is not on the starting list!

Arkansas' sprinters seemed to have had a rougher lane draw, and this will be Texas Tech's jumpers first time jumping at Tyson's elevated runways, and the DMR will be on day 2 the same day as the 400, 800, Mile, and the 5000 where Arkansas has a bevy of runners... this could open doors for our girls to score more! Let's keep praying that they're healthy and have been able to train
