What would a Tucker trade if any had looked like if Bregman had accepted the original deal when offered?

And none of these guys GAF about taxes.

That's complete fan myth.

Several players have recently talked about this. It's one of the reasons why people take less to avoid Canada. I believe the deferred money is another way to avoid taxes in Cali.

Unless it's Toronto where it's closer to 50% in taxes

170M at 5% tax is 8.5M. If he is really hung up about 28.5M/Yr vs 30M/yr on a 6 year contract, he is arguing over a total of 9M. If he doesn't GAF about taxes in that scenario, he is a moron.

This is my point. The different in $9mm is a wash between the 2 contracts when it comes to Houston vs Chicago.

I think the only place where taxes matter is when it comes to playing in Canada. Their tax laws are absolutely brutal.

"Re-engaged the Dodgers".

When in doubt, see if you can get the dodgers to defer your salary request.

Right. So a $180M contract from Chicago is worth the same to AB as $171M from Houston. So the taxes are a significant factor if he is down to arguing over less than 10M with a team that is not Chicago.

I don't think it's quite so simple regarding taxes. They have to pay based on where games are, not just based on where they live, right? So they don't actually save the full state tax difference by signing with us.

Astros competing with themselves for the best offer

"Still not enough"
this is why Boras is Boras

he gets teams to do stupid stuff like this

there is no reason to offer 6 years...or increase the offer

True which is why the AL west is so attractive.....in 2 years 4 of the 5 teams will reside in no state income states
Im looking for Ray Finkle.... and a clean pair of shorts. Im just a very big Finkle fan. This is my Graceland, sir.

Other than we already did at the start. I really think Dana went max years and a very fair money value based on that. It was the perfect offer to start. Worst case is it makes someone else go higher to sign him. Except the bigger offer didn't happen and now Boras has to play us against ourselves to get more money.

I'm really at the point where I would cut it. The window is really 3 more years. Alex keeps us at a high level for 2-3 years. Paying him to watch him decline for 3 years when the window is closed and the Tucker trade has his replacement in the wings just seems dumb.

I'm on 3/80 in present value $$. Maybe 3/90. I want no opt outs and some deferred. Tue more that's deferred the more the contact value appears to go up but the PV and AAV are lower.

Players don't care about taxes.

Getting the most money isn't about take home money, it's about respect. If you make 30 a year, and another guy makes 26, then you are getting more respect from your employer. Even if you only take home 15 and the other guy takes home 18 because of state taxes

Welcome to the chat Mrs Bregman! Any thought on where hubby winds up?

If we really want to break it down the higher AAV on the shorter term deal has investment return potential. Using a very conservative 4.5% 10 year Treasury Bond and compounded over 3 years that is something. Rinse and repeat for year 2 and year 3(fewer compounded years). I realize he will get paid throughout the season, but I kept it simple. This is just on the small increase in take-home pay which isn't much at all, but it is something.

Holy crap. You joined a day in the future since it is technically 2/6 still and this was your first post out the gate.

For real Breg's how you doing man? Was wondering how long it would take for you to come from TigerDroppings and say hi. When you get back in town I got a few jerseys if you have a minute and a sharpie.
