Kegged 2 beers tonight.
German Pils, and somehow it came in 1g shy. Which is odd because I brew 12g batches into a 14g FV for a final 10g keg. Srs...what is going on.
APA, only 10oz El Dorado/ Amarillo and 2oz cyro (forgot). Full keg.
I've been cleaning my garage and after having volume issues for awhile I pull out a hidden measuring stick with a 26 at the top. My other BK is 15g. I've been using the wrong damn measuring stick, which suddenly explains everything. So, don't take 18 months off in brewing. I also need a more elegant method for measuring volumes.
I have an order with brewershardware that's a full month late, emailed them and asked them to cancel and refund 1 item, so I can get the rest of my order so I can work with a welder and get everything done so I can go full electric. With Thanksgiving and all the associated shortage nonsense, I want to get this done asap.
Meanwhile, after 18 months WFH, this Friday I plan to mash in at lunch, start the sparge near the end of my day, and get my beer done after work Friday. With a prep Thursday night, and a long automated mash, I think I should have done this ages ago.
Plan to brew an IPA using some new process techniques and then my lager tank will also be open for a Czech Pils. Although I really want to brew a toasted pils as well.
Once all the welding is done, I'll be back able to do 5 gallon batches but I'll probably push through another 5gal cider. And I have a vinters test kit to start to figure out the acids. Never ends.

On 10/6, Jeff Poirot (their customer-facing sales manager for the homebrew side of their business) announced he's leaving to become a brewer with HopFusion. They've shuttered their podcasts and all of their non-commercial department.
I see, they closed their physical storefront. You can still order online, which I'm about to do for a Czech Pils brew this weekend. Problem is their hop prices are high as compared to Yakima etc... so not sure my hops will arrive in time.
I just tapped a German PIls, man, it's pretty tasty if I don't say so. It's high on gravity at 5.7%, I need to get it down to 5.2% or lower next batch, but I won't complain about a half point.
I've got an APA carbonating that I let dry hop for too long, hopefully it's not too grassy.
And Sat I brewed an IPA using some new techniques such as dropping BK pH to 5.1, and changing how I hop my beer.
Fixed a few issues on the brew day and that seems to have cleared up some issues I was having with volume and gravity. I don't know what I did, but before I took my hiatus my efficiency was around 75%, but now I'm down to 68%. In the end, it's not that big a deal, but it was totally screwing with me.
And I'm beyond aggrivated at a delay in shipping that's keeping me from going electric. I had a propane valve issue so my big 40# tank was unusable. I'm so ready to go electric at this point.

Looking at the recipe I ordered and I'm pretty sure I got the grain bill from a clone recipe but for the life of me can't find it. IPA for sure though. This look familiar to anyone else? 5 gallon batch.

Seems to be heavier on the crystal to me that makes me think maybe a heftier pale ale. Is it just Sierra Nevada pale? Maybe Dale's Pale Ale.
20L? That's a lot for a light sweet malt.
After yalls responses, I realized I hadn't actually done any calculations for water or even put this into BeerSmith. Don't know what I was thinking, but the recipe above only comes out to 1.043 or so with my setup? I have some Pilsner malt left over that I'm going to add to get this up to 1.062 or so, thankfully.

Well crap, an APA picked up an infection. It's pretty light, but its def brett, I have a few ideas of where it came from, including degraded silicone tubing because it let it sit in star san for too many months (when I took a hiatus).
So, going to rack it to a 5g keg and drink a few gallons before dumping it. Then I'm going to use idophor to sanitize a ton of equipment, then follow it up with a star san soak, replace all gaskets and tubing associated with the fouled keg.
So as a reminder, switching up your sanitizer every 10th batch is a really good idea. Even though I hate idophor.

I ended up ordering from Northern Brewing. I'll go back to Austin HB for the next. I knew it I didn't order when I was looking I'd forget about it. I haven't brewed since October and finally got a break from work to do it.
Love it! What did you end up going with?
I'm going to brew a chocolate porter. Looking forward to it.

Denver still has a good half dozen or so I think.
You can also ask your local brewers. They often will sell supply or add to their own orders.

Brewing a hazy IPA tonight. Precleaned all my gear over the weekend.
Dumped an APA today. Life just went sideways and sort of forgot about it.
Did start a pomegranate cider. 4.5g, boosted with 2 cans of concentrate, I plan to stabilize and back sweeten with pomegranate concentrate. Didn't bother with gravity readings.

I feel you, there's a hazy IPA in my fermenter that's been there since October. I haven't brewed in 5 months. My kegerator condenser went out so I knew I couldn't tap it, but then life has seriously gotten in the way. I doubt I'll ever even keg it.

Brewing lasted about a half hour longer than intended. After a few minutes of running my immersion chiller I saw that the connection wasn't fully tight at the top of one arm. I had a mist of water spraying out and over the kettle. Being the neurotic brewer I am, I relit my burner and brought that SOB to another boil to kill off anything that may have gotten in.
Probably overkill.
Anyways, I nailed my gravity reading! Can't say that I would have without the extra 5 or so minute boil. 1.059-1.060, was aiming for 1.060.

I'm tranisitiong to more sessionalbe beers. Moving away from hoppy beer simply because I can't drink it before it fades. To the point I'm thinking of a 1/2bbl fermenter because if you'll spend the time might as well go big volume.

It's gotten to the point that it's easier to find excellent quality IPAs pretty much anywhere, and the prospect of brewing your own IPA doesn't deliver as much return as if you can brew a nice sessionable ale or lager to just have on tap at home that fits your personal taste. If I say to myself "hey I want an Irish red ale", when I go to the store there is a less than 50% chance I'll even find an option, and less chance still that it's a good option.
Back in 2020 I brewed a brown ale I talked about here. It was awesome to have hang around on tap as my kind of house beer, and then I could just do 4- or 6- packs, or even mixed packs, of other beers from local stores.

My first batch of beer was supposed to be a shiner bock clone from Austin Homebrew Supply. All extract. A college roommate and I brewed it. Only boiled 1 gallon + the syrup. Sanitized the fermenter (5 gal Culligan bottle) with vodka.
When it came time to bottle, we "sanitized" 50 leftover twistoff shiner bottles in the dishwasher (with soap!) and then racked it. The bottles picked up a lot of residual soap... So much so that you could blow bubbles with the final product. It was un****indrinkable. Still, we kept a case of it and gleefully gave it to any one who asked for "free" beer.
