The sentiment that was being expressed was that Nash was his only All-NBA teammate and it was stupid to let him walk for nothing and over what ultimately proved to be a bargain of a deal.

Josh Howard was on the verge of that level for a few years, would have been interesting to see what happens if 2006 wasnt stolen from us and he had his need for weed under control

Heck for old timers like myself Roy Tarpley was the biggest tease of them all. That guy was on track to be the best player in the NBA if it wasnt for his drug and alcohol issues. Played his later years in Europe then died at age 50. So sad.

We're in a weird spot where teams have no idea how to value future picks with the flattened lottery odds.

It's easy to say "trade this guy on our team for future assets." But we have no idea how these teams value future picks. It does not matter at all whose pick you own in the future.

I'm sure there's definitely some truth to this, especially by teams that are kinda middling in the league. On the flip side of this, I actually think this will push some teams to go ahead and try to offload some of their picks for sure things because some of the assets they have could be diminished. The Rockets Brooklyn pick next year is a great example. In this current format that's perhaps the best asset outside of a current top four pick. It loses value imo with the "3-2-1" model.

I'm sure the Rockets would love to get rid of it, but teams have to treat it like it has a 50% of being pick 9 or worse and 75% chance of being pick 5 or worse.

Normally that would have a 50% chance of top 4 and guaranteed top 6. Brooklyn is a sure fire bottom 2 team in the NBA this season.

It's just going to be such a crapshoot going forward that we have no idea how teams will treat these picks.

You ain't wrong. The NBA is just a mess.

All of these salary rules and aprons, along with seriously increased salaries, have killed trading for star players or signing them in free agency. So teams have honed in on picks and building through the draft. Now these stupid draft lottery rules are going to kill building through the draft, so doing anything feels impossible. What a mess.

It's why one route or another, this offseason is critical for the Mavs.
