Apparently they created a huge TPE. So maybe they can use the TPE to take on unwanted salary and add the OKC pick to move higher in to the draft.

Sometimes if a team really wants somewhere at the bottom of the draft or trade next year's top 20 protected pick for that late round pay

So it's basically 4 seconds (the okc pick is essentially the first second round pick) and a future first in 2030. That 2030 pick could be very good, so I'll be interested to see what the protections are.

Whatever, I'll take it.

It won't be. It's top 20 protected and you get the Warriors 2nd rounder if it falls in the top 20.

So it's basically 5 2nd rounders. That said, AD has no value. If you can get 5 2nds and a ****load of cap space, I'm down

Yeah, and tbh even though they are only second rounders, that gives you a metric ton of ammo over the next five years, and ammo is better than no ammo when you already have young stud. As long as the mavs draft well enough, they could turn some of those picks into really solid role players.

Now we wait and see if they make any other moves.

Only relative to not trading him at all. In a vacuum it's pretty meh without the Wizards pick this year. As it stands it's effectively five second rounds picks and cap dump for a guy you traded a generational hall of fame talent for.

A couple years ago the Mavs took Richaun Holmes off the Kings in to their TPE and acquired the Kings' FRP which would become OMax. I think that is where the value will be here. Take on other's unwanted contracts and add more first round picks.

If the Raptors want to be really good, they need a Klay type of shooter. They also still need a center (Gafford). There are still moves to make, I bet.

Not worth rehashing the Luka trade, but it's wild it only took a year to go from AD being worth Luka to being worth 2 very end of 1st/early 2nd round picks.

AJ Johnson is interesting. Athletic freak who was really young when he was drafted.

He's probably not that good at basketball, but the Mavs should let him spend a lot of time finding out over the next couple of months.
