Yeah and the Harper comparison's Kind of weird.
Think he will be effective as a rookie off ball because he's a really good shooter but it probably take him 2 or 3 years to really run the offense well because I think he's more of a combo like Austin Reeves. But he definitely needs to add some weight if he's going to be your two guard. That does coincide well with Kyrie's timeline, though

I get that, but Harper is way heavier and you would ideally want Wagler quicker when he's thin because adding the under body muscle he needs isn't going to make him faster or more agile.
Harper's strength isn't really good athleticism as much as footwork and IQ. Harper's size/strength were pluses but his athleticism measured out pretty mid at the combine.
I like Wagler a lot and think he's a great Mavs choice if somehow he falls, but I don't think Harper is a favorable comp for him.

I wonder if he's getting a bit impatient in Minnesota. I know they are a solid team, but tbh they don't have near enough beside Ant imo and idk how the get another star-ish type of guy there to take some of the load off him.
They've been in the conference finals each of the last two seasons. They're just too injured with him, Ayo, and Donte. They need to re-sign Ayo and they'll be really good again next season.
I think they are good. I just mean I don't know if they'll ever get over the hump as currently constructed. I do think signing Ayo and giving him a bigger role would be a good start.

Ayo is a solid piece, but he isn't a PG. Donte isn't a PG and will miss most if not all of next season.
Wolves pick 29th this year. That's firmly Tyler Tanner range. They have no pick next year or in 2029 and they own their 2030 to the Spurs in a swap and their 2031 to the Kings (via Spurs in Fox trade.)
They are under 17M from the 1st Apron, but that is with just 9 players, not including their 1st round pick, Ayo, Jaylen Clark, Mike Conley, etc. It isn't the worst situation, but you also have to realize you are on the back end of Rudy/Randle's careers and they are out a lot of draft capital which makes improving harder.

Mara at 5 would be insane. Tell Sac you are taking Acuff and let them panic. Drop to 6 and get Mara there if you are worried about the Hawks.
But even then... is he Zac Edey without a shot? Mara shot 55% from the line. That becomes unplayable in crunch time.
Some of these combine numbers really shine a light on just how inflated the numbers that athletic departments put out. I mean some of these numbers put out by athletic departments are pushing 3" or 15 pounds difference. Those are two completely different players.

I think the Ant situation is a ticking time bomb for Minnesota, their window is basically shut if they lose this series to the Spurs. It's 3 straight good years, but also a good sample to see the limitations of this roster. And I think it's insane to think that somehow next year with the same team they can get by OKC and SA. If I were them I'd look into dealing McDaniels to recoup some draft capital. Then you scour the earth hoping you can deal either Rudy or Julius. I think somewhere like Charlotte could maybe make sense as the Hornets are really perimeter centric and could use a tough interior presence. Plus they are dumb enough to make a bad deal.
Basically they have to find a way to sell Ant on what the future vision looks like if they want to keep him long term.
Of course the nuclear option if Ant is unhappy is that they could deal him to Memphis for the #3 pick and Ja Morant plus 2 future firsts. You bet on Ja being Ja again and if not you build around Boozer hoping he's got Jokic like impact on the game.

Dailyn Swain that dirty sip is a good example. Listed at 225, weighed at 211. 2" shorter than list too.
Same last year with Ace Bailey.
This was a lot more interesting when people thought he was 6'10 or 6'11 than when he's actually 6'7

In some ways just like Yaxel, Burries is as much of a sure thing as there is in this draft in my opinion. He's a big, strong guard who is going to play good defense, is an efficient scorer who can handle the ball enough but also play off-ball just as well. I think of him in the same vein of player as Stephon Castle coming out of UConn. He's not quite as tall/long or athletic as Castle, but he's similar in some ways as an off-ball guard that can run your offense for a bit, good defensively but offensively perhaps a bit limited. I also say this thinking Burries has a bit more offensive polish and upside to his game than Castle, whereas Castle has much better defensive upside.
All-in-all I really like Burries and hope he's available for selection at No. 9 along with Mikel Brown and Wagler.
ETA: I think some teams (LAC and ATL for example) are very attracted to the more sure thing, especially when the talent gap between that guy and the guy above him is only a football field and not a mile wide. Those teams don't need to swing on a guy who's a bit of a question mark. They need guys to step in day one and contribute.

I believe the interviews and medicals are Friday-Sunday.
I also like Burries and like that he pushes the tempo.
The Locked On guys said they've heard the phrase "will be a better pro than a college player" several times from scouts/personnel.
I know it's weird that he's almost 2 years older than some of the freshmen, but that also means he's more pro-ready right now. Watching the playoffs, I can see him working in the playoffs. He's such a good connective piece on offense, though maybe not yet a developed lead guard. And like you said, his defense is really good. Only Flemings is a better defender right now.

Yeah, I think Burries would be the pick over Philon. Philon measurements and athleticism was just a bit too low to probably pull the trigger at #9. The Mara and Edey comparison isn't bad, hard time seeing that at #5 though. That's an easy trade back with any team 6 through 8, get your guy and pick up an asset.
Agree, Philon is in a tier below Wagler/Burries/Flemings/Brown. Philon is quite skinny and the testing wasn't great.

Mavs have met with Wagler. I'm not sure in what capacity they are doing meetings right now. Thought they were after the scrimmages, but maybe the guys who aren't scrimmaging are meeting with teams.
Some mid-late 1st round guys who I would love for the Mavs at 30 had less than ideal testing days yesterday: Isaiah Evans, Allen Graves, and Joshua Jefferson.
Hopefully helps at least one fall to the Mavs because I know all of them are good at basketball.

I don't think Graves or Jefferson have the athleticism. Maybe they would work as a Kyle Anderson type deal. But they are going to get torched defensively and both are way to small to play 5.

You could do a lot worse than Kyle Anderson at 30 lol. But Graves and Jefferson are much more skilled offensively, imo. Both will shoot 3s more and better.
I watched a lot of Jefferson, and he tested worse than he shows in games. He's a really smart player too. Both BPM and the eye test says he impacts the game on both ends. He was the best player on one of the best teams in the country. Iowa State completely fell apart because he couldn't play against Tennessee in the tournament.
Graves is an analytics darling with insane stock rates. It would be surprising if he isn't an impactful defender. He shoots and passes well also. Will be a great role player on a good team.
Evans I'm just hoping and wishing that his bad testing will drop him. But he's so good on both ends. His length is crazy.
Graves also did everything against mid-major backups. He played limited minutes and so I questioned the validity of those stats, especially if you compared someone like Jefferson who was playing against big conference players
And then you have the same issue with Jefferson that swag brings up with yaxel. Jefferson is a grown man and so he has some advantages built in from that as a senior playing against mostly freshmen and sophomores.
I think Graves is fool's Gold, especially if you watch him and see he just doesn't have the athleticism to keep up. Then he measured in at just 6'7 225 and had bad athletic markers.

Yeah, it's pick 30, so it's not like I'm expecting to pull a Bane. But I can see both those guys being impactful off the bench. Don't see why Graves can't be a Jaylin Williams type of player. Jefferson is a poor man's PJ with more playmaking.
You're probably right that I'm giving too many teams credit by assuming higher upside players will be gone there.
