Wilson is the toughest guy to project in my opinion. He's a freak athlete, a demon on the boards and proficient around the rim, but he's not a stretch big, not a good ball handler for the most part, and he's got tons of development left to do.

Like I said above, Dybantsa is the only non-guard I would be interested in because I think his game will continue to get better as a true wing, and pairing him and Flagg together would be hellaish to play against.

I'm not super high on Ament either, but I think he's more skilled than Kyle Anderson lol. Agree on the fit with Flagg. A 6'10" guy who isn't a skilled ball handler but also wants the bal... I think I'd compare him to a less flamethrower-y MPJ.

His shooting percentages have gone up in conference play, which you like to see. He's at 37% from 3 in conference. He's probably the right pick if the Mavs end up at 9, but given the other options, he'd be a reach at anything higher, for me.

Yeah Wilson is the best defensive, non-center in the draft and his mid range game and inside scoring are elite. The 3 point shot is all projection at this point. He takes 1 per game at 26%, and he only shoots 71% from the FT line. It's not terrible, but it's not what you want to see when trying to project.

I guess what we're talking about is as close to Amen Thompson defensively/athletically as you can get, with less ball handling, but more efficient scoring.

If the Mavs end up with Wilson, it would make drafting one of the shorter guards like Tanner or Okorie later in the draft much more palatable. Or someone like Meleek Thomas who isn't short, but isn't known for defense.

I'm also really glad the Mavs were able get back in this first round, even if it is at the very back.

There are lots of good players to be had in all different ages, shapes, and sizes in that range. Guys I like are Isaiah Evans (moving up boards and unlikely to be there at this point), Dailyn Swain, Morez Johnson, and Joshua Jefferson.

Johnson and Jefferson are clunkyish 4s and maybe Johnson has to be a shorter 5, but everything about their advanced numbers say they impact the game as much as any player in the draft. Top 10 players in the country according to most advanced metrics.

Another guy that people are starting to pick up on is Allen Graves at Santa Clara.

Advanced metrics darling, but he doesn't even start and plays less than 23 minutes per game. 6'9" and appears to have ridiculous length, though not super athletic. Over 40% from 3, almost 3:1 assist to turnover (4:1 in conference), and 3.7 steals and 1.8 blocks per 40 minutes. Has also gotten better as the season has gone on, with two solid games against Gonzaga. Would be a great pick at the back of the first round.

This is his RSFr year, so maybe he transfers to a bigger school before coming out next year. Could be one of the guys who benefits from NIL by staying in college and going to the draft in the down 2027 year where he could be a lottery pick.

Sabonis: Has had a back injury all year. Undergoes season-ending knee surgery last day of the all-star break.

Lots of people apparently pissed that Cooper Flagg went to Dallas.

I'm pretty sure this executive is an idiot.

Big difference in what the pick is worth to a franchise and what you'd pay for it in cold hard cash.

The pick is worth 100 million because it increases your franchise value, spurs apparel sales and boosts season ticket sales. This is totally believable. But that 100 million appears over time like an investment. None of these owners got rich by spending (investing) 100 million dollars to get a return of 100 million dollars on the back end.

You would be surprised. Washington Post in 2009 reported that the Wizards sold their No. 46 overall pick (Jordan Clarkson) to the Lakers for just under $2 million. That's $3 million in today's money. You don't think a team would spend 30x that on the number 1 overall pick? If it's not $100 million it's in the high double digit millions.

I was going to respond and say kudos to Jordan Clarkson for sticking it out so long as a mid-second rounder (Deandre vibes) until I realized Jordan Clarkson was still in high school in 2009....guessing that was someone else!

I'm clearly not an aficionado of Jordan Clarksons career. Damn article I read said first time since 2009 the Wizards entered the draft without a first round pick and I swapped that for 2009 draft. Was 2014. So $2.8m instead of 3.

The crucial 4 game stretch against fellow tankers is about to start with Indiana. No Flagg for the Mavs and Indiana does have Siakam and Nembhard playing.

Should be absolutely filthy.

Nets were up 104-97 with about 5 minutes left... and they gave up 18 straight points to close the game, losing 115-104. Never gonna compete with tanking like that.

They were bound to win sooner or later. They just aren't as bad as Indiana, Sacramento, New Orleans, Brooklyn etc. I think at this point it would take a borderline miracle to move up much even considering their schedule in March.

I still think Dallas finishes about 6th and NOLA jumps to 7 or 8.

My tankathon prediction is:

1. Kings
2. Nets
3. Pacers
4. Jazz
5. Wizards
6. Mavs
7. Grizzlies
8. Pelicans
9. Bulls
10. Atlanta
11. Milwaukee
12. Portland
13. Phoenix
14. Orlando

Must lose against Memphis on Friday. Hope Guitarsoup is right about NO. They have nothing to play for, so hopefully they stay at about a .400 pace the rest of the season.

After this week, the Mavs may have one of the toughest remaining SOS.
Tksymm7
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Not only SOS, but the amount of time they have to play those games. They are virtually playing every other day with some back to backs mixed in for all of March.

Just realized AJ Johnson played 0 minutes yesterday. That's unacceptable. Kidd does not understand the assignment.

Need to check Kalshi for odds that Markkanen gets a season-ending injury tonight against Houston.
