How convenient you pick 2 years. Bc last year was the major outlier for AD where he played 75 games. Use any other span on the last 6 years and it's laughable. And Luka led the mavs to the finals last year. So injuries were not a concern.

I understand the team has a number of injuries that impact defensive performance. I'm mocking the fact that they parrot the defense narrative when that is a ******ed justification for the trade.

They did deal Luka for pennys on the dollar. That is simply a fact.

Injuries were not a concern with Luka?? Are you serious? He was literally hurt the entire playoff run. Luka is a great player and it sucks to lose him. I was a mavs fan long before Luka and will continue to be. Just insane to me the fan girling going on about 1 player over a franchise you're supposed to be a fan of.

Some people have a hard time standing by an organization that gives them the middle finger, props to you for doing so so easily.

This team isn't going to be healthy! I have no idea why anyone would expect it to be.

Your arrogant and condescending posts are ridiculous. Just don't respond to posts if you don't like them.

You are clearly a mavs fan and will remain one going forward. Honest question for you and shack: is there nothing that this ownership group or GM could do that would make you no longer be a fan of the team? Nothing at all that would make it to where you just can't bring yourself to root for the mavs? If your answer is no, then that's definitely a loyal fan but is a little weird. Or if there is something, then where do you draw the line? I completely get not turning on your team bc they make bad moves. But this was different. This was sinister by the GM and owner.

The GM literally lied to the fans (or at least lied by nondisclosure/omission) and traded away the heart and sole of the franchise without telling anyone. He kept it secret bc he knew the fans would revolt if word got out and that he then wouldn't be able to convince the dumbass owner to sign off on it. And you are okay just rooting for someone like that? Why? He doesn't give a **** about the fans so why should we root for his team?

And on top of that, after Gutting the team, they are now kicking people out of the arena, not letting them in with Nico shirts, etc. It's a complete joke. We are a joke franchise as long as Nico remains here.

Yes Luka was banged up. And led us to the finals. He wasn't missing months like AD does every ****ing year (other than last year). I should have chosen my words more carefully but I think you know what I was getting at.

First and foremost, I'm a mavs fan….not just a single players fan. If you're done with the franchise and not a mavs fan over the trade then leave the thread. The incessant *****ing and whining over something we have no control over has gotten out of control. We get it. You're upset. You have every right to be. The fan girling comment is wild.

There's more to this than just Luka. Obviously everyone is sad from a fan perspective and that hurts, but on top of that the team has:
- Pumped our false narratives in the media about Luka
- Pushed lies about Mavs fans in the media to try and gain sympathy
- Failed to get an adequate return for such a massive trade
- Mortgaged their future to push in the chips on an injury-prone 32 year old big
- Silenced fans that have been upset about the trade
- Raised season ticket prices
- Refused to buy back jerseys bought within weeks of dumping Luka

So it's more than just Luka or being a fan of him. This FO said **** you to you, me, Luka, and any other person that has supported this team.

Turns out there is still a human element that maybe the spreadsheets and hot takes don't take into account. It turns out that if you openly have contempt for the franchise it's hard to care if they win a championship. When that contempt turns into loathing due to the pettiness and arrogance of those running the franchise it's easy to root for the franchise failure. Now it isn't entertaining anymore which was the whole point of following sports to begin with.


Jeff sums up my feelings and position almost to a T. And this is coming from a guy who constantly complained about Luka's defense, effort, etc.

You didn't answer my question. Is your answer that there is absolutely nothing Nico or dumont could do to make you stop cheering for the mavs? They could raise ticket prices 10x, trade away all our good players, and you'd still root for them?

And I wasn't even a huge Luka fan. I've been a mavs fan for 30 years. This is more than just Luka.

He has a point. If you want to talk about Luka incessantly then this is no longer the thread for it. Why are Luka fan boys on this thread and why are they so unfunny? Hardly anybody was posting in this thread until the trade and now we have a bunch of people who know absolutely nothing about basketball, the Mavs team, the NBA, or comedy who are commenting.

I will redirect the question to you: If you aren't a Mavs fan anymore then why are you commenting in the Mavs season thread? Non-Mavs fans should not be commenting in the thread.

Guitarsoup is excepted because he is respectful and also funny when he tries. He also knows a hell of a lot more about the Mavs and the NBA than 99% of the people have commented in this thread since the trade.

Bc I've been a fan for 30 years so I like talking about the mavs. And am still watching the games. And will root for them again as soon as Nico is gone.

I think most people here are/have been fans and some of the others that see things the way I do are questioning how to move forward with the team given how tone-deaf, stupid, and arrogant ownership and the FO are.

What part do you take issue with?

They win if Luka stayed.

I understand the team has a number of injuries that impact defensive performance. I'm mocking the fact that they parrot the defense narrative when that is a ******ed justification for the trade.

They did deal Luka for pennys on the dollar. That is simply a fact.
Basketball-wise, all of it. Comedy-wise, also all of it.

Derozan was insanely efficient. Was Luka shutting that down?

Luka teams had a really hard time with SAC teams until PJ and Gafford got here last year. PJ was out tonight. You know that right? Gafford was a +9 until he got hurt early. Did you know Gafford got hurt? I actually have to ask these questions because you comment like you have no idea.

Is not about supporting Nico and ownership. It's about cheering for the team you've been a fan of your whole life.

This team is deep and a legit title contender with some health. Unfortunately, they've been ravaged by injuries. Is what it is. Luka, PJ, Lively, AD, now Gafford. Just been a whirlwind but they're still playing hard. I seriously think this team can win a ship if they can just get healthy. Whether that happens or not is another story.

Yup. I am aware PJ was out. Also aware Gaff got hurt.

Either way, my bigger points were the ones about the future of the franchise, that you didn't respond to, rather than one irrelevant regular season game.

I am a Mavs fan. If you aren't you should not be commenting in the thread.

This is why Astros fans catch bans for commenting in the Rangers thread. The thread is derailed from actually talking about the Mavs season. It's just a bunch of people doing unfunny memes now.
I think most people here are/have been fans and some of the others that see things the way I do are questioning how to move forward with the team given how tone-deaf, stupid, and arrogant ownership and the FO are.

If my commentary is that much of a bother to y'all, I can dip and let y'all support Nico, Dumont, and the Adelsons in peace.
How about we just leave the twitter takes for twitter. You can go to that cesspool where nobody wants to move on and just want to act like scorned women.

I'm perfectly happy with all of y'all being here and having legitimate basketball discussion about the Mavericks.

Don't forget Naji getting the Bubonic Plague. Maxi missed a lot of games. Exum out for the first two months of the season. Even Powell, our third string center who we desperately needed even before The Trade, has an injury that has had him out for a month.

This team was cursed before The Trade. The Trade was a symptom of the curse, not the cause.

I don't care much for thread police. To minimize that our team just made the stupidest trade in modern professional sports and act like people should just move on cause it's "next man up" is dumb. There is no "next man." I will never be able to root for another team. Not a possibility. But if people want to pissed off about something the Mavs did, then a Mavs thread is the right place for it.

Some facts about the last couple of days:
  • Arguably the most talented player in the NBA was cast aside for no good reason.
  • Tonight, the Mavs were dominated inside in the 4th - at least in part - because they guy they traded him for and who is infamous for always being injured...was on the bench, injured
  • This same night, ESPN, Gatorade, Jordan brand, the basketball media, etc. all rolled out the red carpet tonight for Luka's first game to talk about how Luka is poised to be the face of the Lakers and the NBA for the next decade.
  • Meanwhile, if you show up to a Mavs game and have the audacity to say "Fire Nico," they escort you out. And yall want to call people "still" upset with the trade soft?
  • And while Dallas is escorting its fans out, and there's a half empty arena watching an important OT game, ticket prices have tripled to watch your guy and mine make his debut in LA. In purple and gold.
  • He didn't ask for a trade to go play with his buddies. Or decide he couldn't win in Dallas. He was dismissed and then **** talked on the way out by a guy who used his mother-in-law's money to buy the team, and who only wants guys like Jordan and Kobe and Shaq.



By the way, where was 41 tonight? I didn't see him sitting courtside next to Cuban, watching that important OT game and supporting the front office. Guess he's not a real one after all, either.

If you want to teach somebody basketball, start with the "governor" and GM. They took the team you love, the team I love, and made it the laughing stock of professional sports. Here's what they find funny while people clown memes in this thread.

Hardly anybody was posting in this thread until the trade and now we have a bunch of people who know absolutely nothing about basketball, the Mavs team, the NBA, or comedy who are commenting.

I will redirect the question to you: If you aren't a Mavs fan anymore then why are you commenting in the Mavs season thread? Non-Mavs fans should not be commenting in the thread.

Guitarsoup is excepted because he is respectful and also funny when he tries. He also knows a hell of a lot more about the Mavs and the NBA than 99% of the people have commented in this thread since the trade.
