From an outsider, I feel like Luka is at his best when he is driving. Pull the trigger on the three just enough to make guys guard you out there to get space to drive. He's just so good at using his body, absorbing contact, and finding the collapse/open man for the easy shot.
Lots of Mavs journalists/analysts say they are seeing a clearly hobbled Luka. You can tell on TV he is always wincing and grabbing at his groin. He was even very questionable to play last night. It shows, as he seems way more likely to settle for a mid range turnaround rather than get downhill and to the rim. He is shooting about 15% lower on 2s this year than he did last year. I did see/hear a stat that he is actually driving the same number of times per game this year as he did last year. He's just far less effective this year.
Another thing is teams are defending him completely different than last year. Teams are just switching the PNR to prevent the lob. This is making Luka have to work harder in 1 on 1 situations to get baskets. Denver was the first team to send heavy doubles/blitzes at Luka all game and it resulted in one of the Mavs' best offensive games so far.
