Not to mention Gafford completely demolished in the back on the rebound.

Pretty crazy we were in that spot with 2 of our top 5/6 and 3 of our top 8/9 out for the game.

Dinwiddie getting 28 minutes while Grimes and Hardy combine for 12… this is going to get really frustrating.

Dinwiddie is not good anymore and should not be playing that much. Especially when Luka and Kyrie play 42 and 41.

Horrendous call

Powell playing big minutes again really reminds you how hard it was for us to rebound for that few year stretch. It's pathetic.

Denver making everything from 3 and mavs can't throw it in the ocean. Klay still in his early season slump…

Kyrie is absolutely blazing…

Denver handed 3 FTs at the end of the shot clock... Refs absolutely trying to steal games from the Mavs. This is getting way out of hand...

Man unreal to lose this game. Kyrie had an all timer. We didn't start making 3s until late in the game, other than Kyrie. Denver made everything all game.

No Lively and PJ is really killing this team right now. Gotta get healthy and start winning games.

Luka not jacking up 40 footers would help. Can't believe we lost this one with how Kyrie played.

Definitely think we would have won with lively and pj.

Hate having to claw back into the hunt again…for once can we just have a good start to the season and stay comfortably in the top 6 throughout?

That possession in the final minute where Luka walked it up the court, barely making it across the time line, then not getting within 35 feet of the basket before pulling up... That was brutal. Kyrie had been cooking and the offense had been humming when they would double him at the action.

Seems like Indiana, Phoenix x 2, and Houston made everything all game too.

The team is obviously missing 4 of their top 8 rotation players but Luka's attitude and on court play are an absolute anchor right now.

The Luka logo 3s in critical situations are getting really old. Honestly, the dude needs a massive on court rebranding. I don't want to water him down, but ffs quit being a liability when we need you most

From an outsider, I feel like Luka is at his best when he is driving. Pull the trigger on the three just enough to make guys guard you out there to get space to drive. He's just so good at using his body, absorbing contact, and finding the collapse/open man for the easy shot.

Only hot take so far is that Lively is close to the 2nd most important player on the roster now. It is still Kyrie, but Lively was growing into being the defensive anchor. He may have flipped the last couple of games, but ultimately that is no excuse. Everyone deals with injuries so the Mavs just need to play better.

Let's see where they are at 20 games. Going 5-5 in the first 10 is disappointing but that can flip pretty quickly. I still think they are good.

Historically, net +/- is better than W/L at gauging how good a team is. Mavs are still +4, which is 6th in the West. Lakers are negative, but 6-4 overall. Considering the injuries, that is a very good sign.

Lots of Mavs journalists/analysts say they are seeing a clearly hobbled Luka. You can tell on TV he is always wincing and grabbing at his groin. He was even very questionable to play last night. It shows, as he seems way more likely to settle for a mid range turnaround rather than get downhill and to the rim. He is shooting about 15% lower on 2s this year than he did last year. I did see/hear a stat that he is actually driving the same number of times per game this year as he did last year. He's just far less effective this year.

Another thing is teams are defending him completely different than last year. Teams are just switching the PNR to prevent the lob. This is making Luka have to work harder in 1 on 1 situations to get baskets. Denver was the first team to send heavy doubles/blitzes at Luka all game and it resulted in one of the Mavs' best offensive games so far.

Only saving grace is we have had a brutal schedule to start the season. Suns twice, Indiana once, and a hungry ass rockets team.

And for now, Durant is hurt and Chet is hurt. Those teams have been healthy all year until now, but now they are dealing with injuries the Mavs have had all year.

I think these games are really hard on the player that is returning. So much emotion and such a different pregame routine. Such a desire to play a great game.

Go for 44 points - no surprise.
Go 3 for 14 - no surprise and more likely.

That was something. That had the emotional feel of a goodbye rather than a welcome back. They know we have Klay for two more years right? lol

3 for 14 is more likely and had been the trend for Klay to start the season. Maybe he needed this juju to get out of his early season mini-funk.

Looks like the Warriors are going to blitz Luka off the Lively screen. Please and thank you.
