How about run differential? Astros are -52 on the season. That has to be among the worst to make the playoffs, saying they do and don't really change that number.

Ugh Hader with the blown save

Espada blew that one. I was fine letting Hader work one guy but when he walked Arozena, I would have pulled him.

Espada didn't even have anyone up in the pen. It was clear Hader was laboring not finding the zone.

Now he's burned for at least two games after throwing almost 50 something pitches and we got nothing to show for it.

I get the other parts of the bullpen are garbage but letting him go all of the pitches and watch him struggle was tough to watch.

At least it ended in the 10th and we didn't burn anymore arms.

Oh well. On to Sacramento.

Does 2/4 get it done? We hold the tiebreaker. The last couple years, when we were counting on stomping the A's, we have gotten our dicks kicked by them. Hopefully the stros can get 3/4. I just don't see a 4 game sweep with this pitching staff. One of them will throw a real stinker.

the last times this year we had a series sweep were the angels and rangers, back to back, end of july and beginning of august. it would be nice to add the A's to that list

I get all of that in a vacuum.

My thing is we lost him for 2-3 months of baseball after a similar situation with the Yankees last season.

Couple that with four more games and I'm not doing what Espada did.

Magic number of 1 or 2, all day long.

In that moment we still have four games against the As to get it done.

I would have let him go back out for the 10th, but he's on a real short leash. I get he doesn't want to get pulled but he needs to understand it's for the betterment of himself and the team.

If I as the manager don't have that right then why am I even managing?

Hopefully it's a moot point and we handle the A's well enough but the precedent against the Yankees last season should have given Espada enough rational to let Hader know he's not gonna leave him out there if he doesn't have it or put him at harm.

It was real clear early on in that inning he didn't have it.

He did throw two innings against the Giants this season but he threw 11 pitches in each inning so he was much more on. 22 pitches total.

He went out to the 10th at 19 pitches which is kind of his borderline.

Tell me that going to Sac for Saturday and Sunday is a bad idea. Good seats for both games under 100 total.

I wouldn't pay that kind of money to go see this team. They suck.

Maybe tie it with a Napa trip and we can talk, but just to see crappy pitching and non timely hitting? Nah.

Just had to beat the ****ty A's with your best pitcher and we would have almost assuredly been in the playoffs. The season somehow keeps getting worse.
