Exactly

WTF does a county official have to do with opening lines of communication across the globe?

She's too busy gorging on escargot, snorting antipsychotics and chasing social clout to notice that pairing the chief administrator of the largest county in Texas with some minor city flunky in charge of public health is a huge slap in the face.

"Here Lina, you go learn from our deputy mayor on public health grift so you don't get sued again during the remainder of your lame duck term while the big people talk."

Harris County and Paris are both navigating challenges from climate change, poverty and growing health care costs while operating within tight budgets.

Yes, a trip to Paris was needed to tackle these problems. Not India, China, or Africa. I hope you learned a lot! Look forward to you implementing the solutions before your term ends.

its funny how she doesn't need any of these emotional counseling sessions while she's on vacat, i mean working trips abroad like she needs, you know, during commissioners court.

They might as well have just had a gift basket with some crayons and coloring books delivered to her hotel room and not bothered with the meeting at all.

Saw today that Houston decided to not raise their property tax rate. Another black eye for Harris County and their big jump in tax rate.

Theyre discussing Data Centers, one of the county attorneys is discussing the power draw that could be in place by 2029. Demand use could increase by 50% by 2029 and the concern is how it will impact power bills for residents. .

Not a fan of higher powerbills without increased generation to offset increased demand.

I thought Abbott and company were, or did, change permit regulations to force data centers to self-supply power?

Im.not 100% sure. They did take a vote and it was 4-0 to explore options in order to exert more local control.

However, counties cannot issue ordinances and fall under state laws. Thrle short of it is they support data centers but are concerned about fallout such as spiking energy costs and water usage.

Yes.

All of them.

I should've rephrased my question. Are there data centers being built without the owner covering the costs of building plants to cover the production of incremental power to satisfy their power needs?
maroon barchetta

My understanding at this time is none of the data centers are building any power generation.

There are a lot of hoops to jump thru to generate power and hook into the grid. You can't just build one if you feel like it and have the resources to do so. Lots of permitting required.

This is incorrect.
Almost all of the data centers under discussion are self generating power. They are all talking to natural gas pipelines for interconnects/access to gas supply. They have purchased turbines/etc to run on natural gas. Permitting for self generation has not been a problem.

Will be interesting to see the impact on future natural gas prices combined with the huge demand at the LNG exporters….

It was sure correct for the data center College Station city staff was courting.

They had no power generation other than massive backup generators.

That's why I asked. The ones I'm aware of have arrangements where the developer is subsidizing power plant builds and infrastructure in massive amounts at massive expense to them.

Microgrids are more getting more common and make more sense. Building a half billion dollar facility that doesn't control its own power supply is bad strategy.

The data centers i know of, that i applied and interviewed for, are building power gen but also trying to get hooked up to the grid.

Building local power used to be a one year or so deal. Mostly air permit issues and getting NG to your location. But in tandem, getting major power lines.

But now the backlog for outside power is like 3+ years, so local power is faster. But now generators are 3+ years out as well for large scale generation. Smaller sized units are faster, but as others said, make large amounts of noise.

Simple design of supplying gas and managing the pressure swings on the header. And managing other utility needs.
