I'm not a fan of destination weddings but the comparison to parents/grandparents and their ability or want to do destination weddings isn't sound at all.

Grandparents- married at 21 while seniors at Tech. In 1952 you couldn't just hop on a plane and be at a badass Mexico resort with 3 other couples for the long weekend. That and everyone got married and started a family asap. Different time, but especially different technology and vastly different transportation infrastructure.

Parents- definitely could have been in be cards their generation. But 1980s oil bust in Houston, doubt any of their friends were doing them.

In reality I tend to see a large portion of destination weddings being 2nd marriages, small family and tightest circle of friends only. There's obviously plenty of 1st marriages but in my experience it's people from 2 very different regions/background that met well after college and the HNW circles.

Weird that the discussion of formal vs destination weddings, but in my 100% anecdotal evidence of myself (so far), destination weddings lead to way more sticky marriages lol.

First wedding planning process stress should've shown me I didn't want to get married. Destination, just show up to the hotel and spend 30 minutes planning, then party with your friends & relatives for a few days. Way more fun.

Kinda sucks for relatives that don't want to travel and friends with small kids that can't go, but you can have a reception at home too.
