Coachwhip. Watched him chase a Texas Spiny Lizard about ten yards and then up a tree. He ended up in this bush waiting for me to take his picture.

Eastern Hognose. Let him keep eating frogs and toads.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Board question: How do snakes generally act on days like today (110F) in a drought?

About 4' and spent most his time under water.

Or is that the adult version of what was in my house a while back? YBWS?

I forgot to look for the vertical lines and finally zoomed it. It was a great learning experience for the boys.

I actually turned mine off. Turns out my phone's autocorrect and I often disagree on which things I type are real words. I get more typos but far fewer nonsensical texts.

A hog would be my number one pet option. My just really really like is the Indigo. Any snake that eats rattlers is good with me

I like my Eastern Hognose better than my Western. Mexican hognoses are really cool too.

If someone were to want a Hognose as a pet, you would suggest the Eastern over the other varieties?

No, I'd suggest a Western. I've been keeping snakes for over 30 years. So, I have a ton of experience.

Westerns readily eat mice. Easterns don't. I previously had an Eastern, and couldn't switch it over to mice. Had to feed it toads and frogs it's entire life. Living in West Texas at the time, that was difficult.

I've had my current Eastern for a year and switched him over to mice. It was extremely difficult to do, and took luck. Basically, I soak the pinky in chicken broth then put a small frozen thawed toad on top of it. The thought is that it tricks him into thinking the mouse is a toad. So far, it's worked.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

I wasn't about to let a wedding stop me from catching my first Northern Water Snake.

Caught this guy out sunning in Michigan. Scared the entire bridal party while they were taking pictures... it was pretty funny.

Yeah, he "musked" pretty bad when I was holding him on his body. Luckily it didn't get all over my suit... the stench hung around my hands the entire night.

Slow week, only like 2-3 copperheads showed up. I was training my wife to search for then in the dark and remove them in case I am out of town. She HATES snakes, like pretty viscerally, but she's smart, tough, and resourceful and will do what needs to be done. We make it around the first corner of the back of the house and find about a 3.5 foot rat snake patrolling along the foundation. I stop and point it out. I was a little surprised when she said "that's a good snake". She's been paying attention when I've been showing and telling her about the non-venomous beneficial species to have around! I was very proud. We let it go on its way, and it quickly found a gopher or toad hole to crawl into and hide.

Interesting facts: I haven't caught a snake in a trap in over a month. That's really weird considering how often it happened last year and even this spring.

I do almost all my searches between 9-10:30 pm.

The typical snake wrangling uniform is boxer shorts, an old white t-shirt, and a pair of crocs. I don't have any neighbors nearby, and its still damn hot outside.

I wasn't able to get a photo, but one of these crossed my path in the Hughes Landing area (The Woodlands) this past weekend. Probably just shy of 3 ft. Blended in nicely with sidewalk.
