time for the usual gaggle of snake articles in our local rags. The latest from the Houston Comical insinuates that the Mohave , Canebrake, Pygmy and the BlackTailed rattler are " common to Houston" .

I'm pretty sure 12f Mane also chloroform's them, poses them, freezes them, and then sets them back in the wild for the photo. Not sure how else so many pictures of snakes could turn out so well.

When I have tried to take a picture of a snake, they disappeared into the grass/brush as soon as I get within 20' of them.

Garter/Ribbon... completely harmless unless you're a frog or insect.

Someone might be able to chime in on subspecies type.

Looks to me like the "Texas" subspecies of garter snake, which is a pretty rare snake. Finding one in Temple is somewhat significant. Where in Temple?

Found a nearly foot long Texas Brown last night. It was out hunting bugs along the edge of my house foundation. Now I know I have to start snake patrolling.

I found one in the yard Saturday. Actually a bright copper colored snake. No stripes or other variation. It looked like a Texas Brown snake, but now I'm not sure. Went to shop for a grabber, but it got away by the time I got back to spot. Probably 12-18".

Any thoughts on this one.
