I'm thinking of abandoning my first start and doing it a little different, I like the aesthetics of my little city in our region, but it's so darned small I'm having trouble getting things to grow vertical

I'm thinking about creating a "TexAgs Take 2" region. I made some...unfortunate decisions in my first city.

AND WHY IS EVERYONE STILL AVOIDING MY AREA OF THE REGION. I'm all alone over here.

Do we still have people who are planning on joining the region but haven't yet? I know of a couple but we still have about half the region empty, maybe a little more.

I'll be joining around mid-day if I have an invite or whatever I need. Game was downloading when I left the house this morning.

I tried to claim some spots last night. First town I started building, then game crashed, got put into queue... when I finally got back on it hadn't saved my first city and it wouldn't let me claim it again saying it was already claimed. Then I tried to claim a different city and it crashed while loading... so I may or may not have 2 squares claimed in Aggieland. Ugh...

Won't be able to play again until Thursday night, if I have squares tied up let me know and I'll try to hop on at some point and release them (if there is a way to do that)

Claiming a city and then not being able to play it has happened to at least three of us now, myself included. Good news is eventually the server catches up and you'll be able to play or abandon it as needed.

Just a reminder, be sure you select North America East 1 for you server or you won't be able to see us or join the region. There also seems to be some sort of "friends list propagation lag" that might prevent you from seeing us when you sign on for the first time. Don't worry, as long as you're in the right server you'll be able to join the region...eventually.

Beef up your police before you even think of adding a casino. People were getting murdered in my town as fast as they could move in. Eventually the word got around and folks started to bail.

I might be talking out of my ass but I think commercial zones will build hotels if you have enough touristy things to do, and enough ways for tourists to get into the city.

In better news, while playing for about 45 minutes I was able to more or less stabilize city AND correct my traffic problem. Now my trade depot can successfully sell the plastic and alloys my recycling plant has been reclaiming. I don't think I'm going to go for a processor plant this time, I have enough free space now that I might specialize in culture. We'll see.

When I first logged in I could see Aggieland by going through the friends menu because one of you guys was playing it, but it wouldn't let me claim saying I had to be invited.

A big tip that I wish I had known when I started:

You will want to upgrade your streets into avenues sooner than you think. However, to do this you have to bulldoze the existing road and build a new avenue. Normal RCI buildings on the road will rebuild almost immediately, but if you have any special buildings they'll be lost. So if you can, start with a small section of avenue for any expensive special buildings that you don't want to have to rebuild later.

Also keep in mind that the avenues are wider than streets. Special buildings placed on corners will require you to rework the street grid a little when you start building avenues, since they'll be in the way.

I tried inviting you but for some reason the friend request still hasn't gone through.

Also, it doesn't always show "trainRiderJ invited you to play here" after a few seconds it changed to "you need to be invited to play here." It's like the ****ing server forgets who I am every few seconds.

I can't even claim a city in a new private region that I create.

Supposedly server updates are rolling out. Hopefully that will fix these issues..

JJ did you play the tutorial? I was getting that message last night when I tried a different server since East I was full. Turned out that the game was fubar and wasn't triggering the tutorial which is required before you can claim a city. (You can exit out of the tutorial once it starts, but it has to start before you can claim any cities)

Just got booted from the server for 'Server Update' - hopefully this is good news.

I'll be back on in about an hour or so.

While I'm thinking of it - any tried the Origin twitch streaming thing?

Don't know... I was able to claim cities on Oceana after just loading it and quitting it so maybe your issue is something else. Hopefully the server patches they are applying fix things for you.

Have they fixed anything yet?

Looking to get in on this if anyone has an extra spot left. I'll be off and on all afternoon.

May just play some sime city 4.

To be honest, the game itself is actually a lot of fun. The server issues are something I would expect to see during the launch week of Diablo 3 or an MMO, which for a traditionally single player game is really annoying. That said, the "multiplayer" aspects of the game are pretty fun.
