Wasnt there like 4 minutes left on the clock after Dez caught it? Not sure Dallas was stopping GB from getting at least a FG
Romo fans act like Dez caught that ball with 30 seconds left in the game.

There is no doubt in my mind that Aaron Rodgers with 4 minutes would have had plenty of time to get the winning field goal or touchdown.

Something else that should also be brought up heading into the offseason is the o line. Based just on contracts we have Tyler Smith, Biadasz, Martin, Tyron Smith, and Terrence Steele coming back. However, how much longer are Tyron Smith and Zack Martin going to keep doing it? I know Zack Martin is still playing at an elite level, but how much longer is he going to take the beating playing guard, because, he's a first-ballot HOFer that has nothing left to prove as an individual player. Does Tyron Smith just hang it up because he quite literally can't stay healthy (this feels very likely IMO)? How long will it take Terrence Steele to get healthy and will he be the same guy after a significant knee injury? McGovern's contract is up, and although I could make the argument to bring him back, it would be nice to find a guy who could be your guard for the next decade like Martin has. Just so many questions about the o line.

I think you make a decent offer to McGovern. He's solid and he has position flexibility as he can slide over the C if you need him to. I think you roll into next year with Smith, McGovern, Biadasz, Martin & Steele.

You hope one of the young OTs you drafted takes a forward step for your swing. I do think I remembered that they were initially pleased with Waletzko so maybe he is your swing next year. Prob try to draft another guard in the middle rounds again for depth.

Steele is a restricted free agent which isn't a guarantee, but most likely we can get him back. I don't see Tyron Smith coming back unless he's cool with being the back-up swing tackle. He would be great for us in that role like he was this year.

The O-line, in my opinion, is one of the bright spots heading into this off-season. Your starters are mostly set and they are solid. 3 of them are very young and getting better every year. Either bring back McGovern on the cheap or draft another guard, I don't really care. But if you line up with Tyler Smith, 'left guard', Tyler B, Martin, Steele next year that's very good.

Point being, we've got a "good enough" QB and we've got a solid o-line... That puts us farther ahead than 70% of the league. Bring back Pollard and add 2 more run/pass weapons and we are back in business.

Peak Tony Romo is the best QB the Cowboys have ever had, full stop. He just had a relatively brief career spent mostly with either a poor defense, poor OL or both. His career adjusted yards per attempt a FULL YARD better than Staubach or Aikman, which is far more than can be accounted for by the difference in eras alone.

He'll never get any notoriety or credit for this, but him dragging those 2011-2013 teams to .500 records was an incredible achievement. Those were all 2-3 win teams with even league average QB play. I would venture to say the 2013 team was the worst combination of OL and defense in league history to come anywhere near 8 wins.

Tyron graded out better in pass protection in the playoffs than Steele ever has in his career.

I still maintain that Steele just isn't a good enough pass blocker to be your long term answer at an NFL tackle spot. His pressure and sack rate is below almost every other starting RT the Cowboys have had since the Parcells era.

Yeah, Tony was really good. The only year he really had a good defense was 2007 and that was a sucky game against the Giants all the way around.

To me, the quintessential Romo game that embodied his career was when he went toe to toe with Manning when he was with the Broncos and lost 48-51.

Romo was amazing that game with over 500 yards and 5 TDs. He had one INT and it happened to be late in the game that gave the Broncos the easy FG to win it. He literally made one mistake and it was that play. Of course, he got ripped despite putting up 48 and having 5 TD passes. The defense got hardly any heat for giving up 50...

McGovern is a league average player at his position. Among starters he's slightly below average. He's the type of player you can almost guarantee to match with any pick in the top 4 rounds, given interior OL is arguably the most predictable position in the draft.

You don't give guys like him second contracts IMO. You can get the same player or better for $5 million less per year.

The stat that pretty much sums up Romo's career: Of the 5 highest QBRs in league history by a losing QB, he has 4 of them.

In 6 seasons Dak has accomplished everything that Romo did in 7 seasons as the starter. Tony Romo never beat Tom Brady, and he never won a road playoff games.

I get tired of hearing Romo fans talk about woulda/coulda/shoulda. Romo played with plenty of elite talent and he was not good enough to get the job done.

His penchant for turnovers and not protecting the ball is what continually doomed the Cowboys.

I think the ideal scenario for the o line going into next season would be to get Tyron Smith back and have him play him play right tackle, because I don't think Steele will be ready to go for a while. I agree with the thoughts about McGovern upon second thought, you can easily replace him with a fourth round pick, or even upgrade if you take a guy in the 1st or 2nd round.

I had the same thought at reading this. I like both Romo and Dak. Last night's game stunk though for sure.

Man, I don't know. To say you could "easily" replace 'cGovern is a bit much, IMO. I know he's not a stud but he is a solid competent NFL lineman that can slide over to C if you need him to.

I think McGovern being very average makes him an ideal candidate to target in the offseason. Vet starter that won't cost much to keep around. And because you aren't paying him much you still have the option to draft a guy if the right player falls to you.

Bring him back and you have an OK starter or really good back-up G/C. It's not going to cost much to keep this o-line relatively intact... I think we have to get this done and then focus our draft/free agency on getting offensive weapons.

They are pretty similar players, but your last sentence is pot meet kettle worthy. Romo had 2 picks in 6 playoff games, Dak has 5 picks in 6 playoff games

Romo in his prime wins yesterday's game by 10 minimum.

I don't wanna derail this thread into a Romo v Dak debate. Romo is gone. It' s over . He's not coming back. He didn't win a title when he had chances. Dak hasn't either, but he's still got time.

My personal opinion is I disagree with some on the thread who say Dak can't win a title. I think he actually can. But he needs a lot of help. He certainly cannot carry a team if needed and that's where I think he's inferior to Romo.

Yes, Romo missed some chances but Romo carried the hell outta this team a lot and Dak has never been able to carry this team. I personally have the QB categories as Great, Very Good, Good, Mediocre, Bad and to me Romo is in the Very Good Category while Dak straddles that line between Good and Mediocre. I don't think anyone with any football wits ever called Romo "mediocre" whereas plenty of people call Dak that.

Yeah right.....The immobile, injury prone Tony Romo was not that great.

Romo fans make every excuse in the world for this guy.

The 2009 Cowboys defense was ranked #2 in the NFL.

Do not tell me that Romo didn't play with talent....or that Dak has played with All this talent that Romo never had.

Getting the Cowboys to 8-8 is no sort of accomplishment to tout. Getting a crummy team to 10-6 and a post season berth is what is worth celebrating

Romo always fell short when the Cowboys needed him.

Romo's legacy would be totally different if he had won even one of those games against the 9-7 10-6 type of teams that the Cowboys would lose to get knocked out of the playoffs.

2008 Philly is a win and get in:
Result: 44-6 L

2011 NY Giants is a win and get in
Results: 31-14 L

2012 Redskins is a win and get in
Results 28-18 L and Romo throws the game losing interception.

During the 2012 Washington game when the Cowboys got the ball on their last drive down 21-18 I said:
" Okay Tony....you have a chance to change your legacy with a field goal or a touchdown.....lets get this done"

Not as soon as I said that the following play happened: Once he threw that pick I knew he was never going to be the guy to get it done in Dallas.

If this was an epic play by the defender then I would accept that....but its classic Romo.....just a lazy ass play where the Redskins defender outsmarted him.

Part of what makes this season and that game so frustrating...even considering all the ****ups we still had a chance to beat them, and should have if probably any one thing goes the other way.

Yes, Romo missed some chances but Romo carried the hell outta this team a lot and Dak has never been able to carry this team. I personally have the QB categories as Great, Very Good, Good, Mediocre, Bad and to me Romo is in the Very Good Category while Dak straddles that line between Good and Mediocre. I don't think anyone with any football wits ever called Romo "mediocre" whereas plenty of people call Dak that.
What evidence did Tony Romo ever show you in his prime that he could lead the Cowboys to a win against a team as good as the 49ers?


What elite team did Tony Romo ever beat in the post season?
What 12 or 13 win teams did Romo ever beat in the playoffs?

Prime Romo always lost to these type of teams.
He always lost to these type of teams because he wasn't that great.

How many epic post season performances did Romo ever have?
Did he ever beat an elite quarterback in the post season?


Romo fans make every excuse in the world as to why this guy only won 2 playoff games in 7 seasons as the starter of the Dallas Cowboys.

I hate on Tony because his fans make him out to be something he was not.

I'm a Dirk fan. Do you know why?
Because that MOFO could beat all the other top superstars in the playoffs...even with a less talented team.

Dirk beat Kobe, Tim Duncan, Lebron, Kevin Durant,...Wade all in the playoffs.

After a while you are what you record says you are.

Tony Romo was 2-4 in the playoffs and never won a road game. He had chance after chance to change his legacy, and the teams under his leadership always blew it.

I think it's pretty clear from everyone that it seems like we don't have a "winner" at QB currently, and haven't had a "winner" at QB since Troy Aikman. So how do we get a guy who can win the massive games like yesterday?

Aikman was surrounded by an absolute embarrassment of riches due to there being no salary cap. You can win games with Dak. Maybe just…. Don't lose your key offensive weapon and have more than 1 good WR? Maybe have a backup RB that's not an overpaid short yardage powerback at 27 years old?

The defense played very well early but started to give up 7-8 yard carries with regularity late in that game. That is the reason the Cowboys lost. They never truly made Purdy consistently get off schedule.

A shiny new QB isn't fixing what's wrong with the roster as much as people would like to think. It always has and always will be about playing complimentary football.
