To put this in a way that most of you will understand, we just fired our RC Slocum. Good guy, lots of support from the students, staff and faculty, but not doing *exactly* what you (the donors) want and you think that we can do better.
This might have been a better analogy if RC was the one that was actually paying Greg Hill for that no-show job.
I think that asking the University president not to break the law, help others to break the law, and then lying about his help, does not make Welsh a "good guy".
It takes a special kind of brainwashed useful idiot to politically defend government fraud, waste, and abuse.

No, she shouldn't have taught that crap. Couldn't care less about any law. If you don't want this crap taught, then don't hire people who teach it. I've got aggregate miners with illegal agricultural tax exemptions holding lunches for the comptroller, but instead of cleaning up corruption, or even answering letters from taxpayers, he gets to enforce nebulous laws in low level make work classes at a state flagship. What a waste of everybody's time. Way more important than protecting the drinking water of 7 million Texans.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

I'm glad we agree.
Somehow, Welsh didn't get that message loud enough, soon enough, to keep his job.
I would have gone to that lecturer during office hours, politely shared my faith, and searched for some commonality in our experience. I tell my kids to go meet their professors. Even if they seem crazy, out of touch, demanding...getting academic jobs is really difficult, and they had to have a good personality at some point or they wouldn't have gotten hired. Usually it's just quirkiness, but I will say that kids today are terrified of talking to adults.

Good luck to whoever dares to step into this mess we have created for our leaders at A&M, especially the President. No matter who gets selected next, he or she will be under intense scrutiny 24/7 and will no doubt face serious criticism every time they try to make a decision, more than any A&M President has had to endure in the past.
This is no longer about leading or leadership. Its strictly about blind obedience and acquiescence with no voice or input.

You think he'd learnt his lesson after the Zoom fiasco. Clearly, he didn't. Maybe he thought he was untouchable. Or figured he'd rather go down with the DEi ship than to piss off his friends circle. Makes no sense.

Not a good day for Texas A&M.
Good. Hire a true conservative. Flush every DEI administrator, prof, and lecturer this school hired in the last twenty years.
See, this is what I'm wondering as well. My understanding is he told the student she could record him, so then why go on and berate her when you know you are being recorded? Why be recorded on zoom basically implying you were going to skirt the rules if DEI?
This is BREAKING THE LAW. Grooming kids and teaching others to groom kids is illegal in Texas schools.
She ****ed around. She and welsh have found out.
I'm glad that professor (and Welsh for that matter) is gone but can you or someone else tell me what law she broke? Actual law/code. Was it state or federal?

Pretty sure she went to her professor privately. The professor alluded to their private meeting in her lecture.
Also, while I thought that the student was not very articulate, she was very civil, and fairly respectful, in her discussion with the lecturer.
I also find it funny that you talk about kids being terrified to talk to adults on this topic. I thought that the student was also very civil with Welsh, who sounded less like the grown up during that discussion than the student did.
Let's be clear here, this student went through every single hoop: talked to the professor first privately, then talked to the dean, then protested publicly, then talked to Welsh, and was shut down at every turn. I also have seen no evidence that this young lady ever acted with anything but respectful disagreement.
It was only after she was rebuffed at every step that she started leaking tapes.
I don't see this young woman as someone that was terrified at talking to adults.

It's a grey area.
The Texas state law, which Welsh argued that TAMU should de everything that it could to circumvent, said that you can't teach DEI stuff to k-12. The lecturer was teaching about children's literature, and how children's literature could be used to influence kids to consider transgenderism if taught to them before they hit puberty.
Definitely against the spirit of the law, if not arguably also against the letter of the law. That would have been for a jury to decide.
Here is the relevant section of the relevant law:
Quote:
Sec.A28.0043.AARESTRICTION ON INSTRUCTION REGARDING SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND GENDER IDENTITY. (a) A school district, open-enrollment charter school, or district or charter school employee may not provide or allow a third party to provide instruction, guidance, activities, or programming regarding sexual orientation or gender identity to students enrolled in prekindergarten through 12th grade.
Sec. 3. Ending Indoctrination Strategy. (a) Within 90 days of the date of this order, to advise the President in formulating future policy, the Secretary of Education, the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Health and Human Services, in consultation with the Attorney General, shall provide an Ending Indoctrination Strategy to the President, through the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy, containing recommendations and a plan for: (i) eliminating Federal funding or support for illegal and discriminatory treatment and indoctrination in K-12 schools,including based on gender ideology and discriminatory equity ideology; and (ii) protecting parental rights, pursuant to FERPA, 20 U.S.C. 1232g, and the PPRA, 20 U.S.C. 1232h, with respect to any K-12 policies or conduct implicated by the purpose and policy of this order. (b) The Ending Indoctrination Strategy submitted under subsection (a) of this section shall contain a summary and analysis of the following: (i) All Federal funding sources and streams, including grants or contracts, that directly or indirectly support or subsidize the instruction, advancement, or promotion of gender ideology or discriminatory equity ideology: (A) in K-12 curriculum, instruction, programs, or activities; or (B) in K-12 teacher education, certification, licensing, employment, or training;
Pretty easy that teaching a children's literature class to students that are seeking education related degrees that covers the importance of introducing kids to the gender unicorn before they reach puberty falls squarely against the bolded part above. So, even if the class was not strictly illegal, it definitely put TAMU at risk for getting a cut in government funding.
You can't allow the children's literature class that was taught by that lecturer to be credit that counts towards an education degree without being squarely against that EO, and at risk for losing funding.

Yep, especially those who advocate for wheelchair ramps, special seating at Kyle Field, handicapped parking permits, and accessible dorm rooms. Special treatment has got to end!

So you support A&M faculty indoctrinating future grade school teachers to promote sexual perversion to children?
Welsh, born in San Antonio in 1954 to a World War II veteran, forged a 40-year U.S. Air Force career, achieving four-star general status and recognition for his leadership and combat prowess. As a command pilot with more than 3,000 hours in aircraft like the F-16 and A-10 Thunderbolt II, he earned two Distinguished Flying Crosses for valor in the Gulf War and War on Terrorism. He led squadrons, wings, and major commands, including U.S. Air Forces in Europe, managing operations across 51 countries and aiding U.S. Africa Command during international crises. Welsh also served as Associate Director for Military Affairs at the CIA, linking military and intelligence efforts.
Appointed by President Barack Obama (Boo! But at this point in his career, you guys elected Obama so he had no choice) as the 20th Chief of Staff of the Air Force from 2012 to 2016, he oversaw 600,000 personnel, contributed to Joint Chiefs strategy, and managed budgets while preparing for conflicts in regions like Syria and the South China Sea.
Honored with the Order of the Sword from enlisted airmen and named an honorary Tuskegee Airman, Welsh retired in 2016 with awards including three Defense Distinguished Service Medals and the French Legion of Honour.
He later became dean of Texas A&M's Bush School of Government & Public Service before taking the presidency in 2023without a full search processafter M. Katherine Banks left amid a DEI-related (journalism dept. head) hiring issue. At the time, he was commended for his stabilizing influence.
The question:
There is an open question as to whether A&M can find a candidate more qualified than Welsh to lead Texas A&M, a school founded under the Morrill Act of 1862, steeped in engineering and military heritage. The Morrill Act mandated at least one college in the state would teach "military tactics" along with agriculture and the "mechanic arts."
We messed up on this one in the name of ideological purity. I get it. We were all inundated with DEI and wokeness since 2020 by the radical left and this is payback. However, A&M is throwing out the baby with the bathwater on this one and I'm against abortion.

There was also a DEI conference hubbub in January of this year that Welsh got slapped down for as well. In addition, Welsh was on record as opposing SB17.

On some level, I'm with you. But on the level that Welsh clearly lied about his knowledge and timeline and backed DEI, I'm against you 100%. He had to go.
If you need proof - just go listen to the audio recording in which she meets with Welsh. In the audio where he meets with the girl, he references how many kids are in the class... he's got factual data and very specific about it. You, as President, don't have factual data unless you researched it and KNOW what's going on firsthand.
I think you're too motivated by being scared how A&M looks light now and that leans you too much towards being a bit blind to what Welsh has done here.
The man messed up. Period. It's sad. It sucks. But it is what it is - he did it, not you nor me.

I am not going to agree that this decorated 4-star general lied based off of a curated audio tape posted on X by State Rep. Brian Harrison. The whole thing was a setup and the way this went down was dishonest.
Yet, I get it. MAGA needs scalps due to the extreme woke we endured. We want payback. I just wish we'd setup the bad guys instead of our own good guys like Welsh.

It doesn't matter who posted what if the audio recordings and timelines are legit. People aren't losing their jobs over a witch-hunt. They got relieved (teacher, dean, dept head and now President) for very, very specific reasons.
Do you even realize how liberal the arts professors in our college are? I think you're a bit out of touch with what's going on. We are literally talking about a transsexual teacher teaching pro-trans in a class about children.
On this President's watch. When he knew how many were in the class when the student visited him and defended it.
Let's be honest here, this wasn't like a healthy discussion about what could happen or be experienced in the workplace as somebody that works with children…. No, this was a direct set of material in a college course on a syllabus.
I'm sorry if you like the guy, but your bubble just got popped and you don't fully realize it yet.
Before this all went down - guess what, I really liked him too.
