Welsh was very demeaning and dismissive to the student as well. Plus he explained to her why LGBTQ was needed

and his explanation didn't even fit the class that was being taught - what does a children's literature class have to do with preparing a future counselor how to deal with trans issues? - this wasn't a psych class.

The lecturer was very specific that it was important to teach toddlers about trans issues before they hit puberty so that they could transition before the hormones set in, and that children's literature was a great way to do that.

It is way more insidious than you are giving it credit for.

How about losing hundreds of $millions in research grants for ignoring Trump's executive order. That worth tolerating a few woke lecturers for?

I think it should be a leading discussion in psychology and psychiatry classes. We have a virus that's spreading at an alarming rate, it infects minds and leads to murders of those who do not accept and advance that vile filth.

Imagine sullying your own name like he just did. It's like Jimmy Kimmel: he got fired because of what HE did. Nobody else made him be a person without character.

Get off your high horse. Bribery is not always a crime.

I have bribed my daughter to go to bed if she got a cookie and some milk. Pretty sure I didn't commit a crime.

Are any of the future teachers actually dumb enough to do what they were hearing in that class?

1) Yep. Not many, but they are out there.

2) Do you think it is smart to cover for a lecturer that is dumber than the students that are taking her / his / shims / its class?

3) Do you think that the most important focus of a children's literature course should be how to indoctrinate kids about transgender issues through children's literature?

If a lecturer is focusing his / her / its course on a topic that is so stupid that her students should be ignoring her, why not fire the person immediately instead of lying to the press to cover for that person?

I took Children's Literature at A&M, the year after I was a Rudder Scholar in Normandy with Glenn Hegar. I was glad that the chemistry BS program had recently gotten rid of a few required courses (like a full year of German), so I had the free electives available to study in France.

Anyway, in Children's Lit we read Charlotte's Web, The Moves Make the Man, and I wrote my term paper on The Vovage of the Dawn Treader. It was neat getting to peruse the literary journals and come up with counterpoints for the ideological vitriol leveled against CS Lewis.

If I'd had to sit through the nonsense in this class, I probably would just ignored most of it, gotten my easy A, become friends with the lecturer, gotten on with my life, and had some good stories to tell about the whacko I had for kiddie lit.

Well, the teacher was breaking the law. She got fired for it. Welsh tried to protect her from consequences of breaking the law. Sort of a "sanctuary university" status.

They both ****ed around. They both found out.

Let stop the spread of that lie. Here's the truth.

"It all began in 1988, just weeks after Bush won the presidential election, when Michael Halbouty '30 '31, a renowned oilman and longtime friend of Bush's, met with the president-elect to introduce the idea of placing his presidential library in Aggieland. Though Bush felt it was too early to begin thinking about the topic, Halbouty and Texas A&M leadership persisted, developing this proposal they presented in 1989."

That's the difference between a person that will stand up for their principles and someone who doesn't have the time to bother with it, I guess.

I mean, more power to you. I probably would have written an amazing paper about how Johnny the Walrus was the greatest children's book of all time, and made the professor decide whether or not to be objective or stick to her values, but that is just the way I roll.

But, you still didn't answer the question. Was it appropriate or not? That is pretty important factor here. Not was it helpful (it isn't) not was it deceptive compared to the course description (it was), was it appropriate?

Can we PLEASE hire a president and not some leftist ideologue this time? How about a non academic, Christian family man former student who was in the corp, grew up in rural Texas in 4H and FFA, and had a long successful career in O&G?

Welsh is a Christian, a career military man and a lifelong republican who has only been in academics since 2016 (where he spent most of his time as the dean of a reputable academic department).

This board's opinion on Welsh compared to reality is INSANE.

Yep. He's not a Trump Republican... So people hate him. But he's a good man and a great leader. Students, left and right, love and respect him. He respects staff and faculty.

Being President right now is an almost impossible job. He was doing it well.

Agreed. It's very sad that we're at a point where almost nobody is willing to take five minutes to understand a topic.

This video is incredible, he should be fired! He was made aware of the issue by multiple students, didn't take the actions he said he would, I'm so livid for these kids!

Then, he got caught and exposed, and LIED. Good riddance, not an Aggie.

Buster I accept that I dont know everything and that I'm not an expert on every topic. I don't think the world is going to hell because people don't think just like me. Call it a high horse if you will. I prefer to call it knowing my limits and giving respect to a man who choose to spend his life serving his country and the school I love. Accusing a state employee of bribery while in the performance of their duties sure sounds like accusing someone of a crime. I'll let the lawyers in the thread give their opinion. Just think it's best to choose words thoughtfully.

This is not "people not thinking like me."

This is BREAKING THE LAW. Grooming kids and teaching others to groom kids is illegal in Texas schools.

Most academics are gonna lean liberall even moreso.
Need to hire a guy who built and ran a successful business before retiring or selling it off.

Exactly. I am not willing to take the risk with another military officer or academics. Avoid both.
I feel like a lot of ex-military lean conservative (hell, our roots as a military institution are probably why A&M leans conservative).....Sharp just plucked one of the few that was (clearly) a woke liberal.

To put this in a way that most of you will understand, we just fired our RC Slocum. Good guy, lots of support from the students, staff and faculty, but not doing *exactly* what you (the donors) want and you think that we can do better.

For those that remember what happened to Aggie Football after that, that's what we're in for in the President's office. The next hire will be a dumpster fire. And when that one fails, then the next. No one worth a damn is going to want to the place that ends careers. We'll be the laughing stock of the rest of the damn country and the value of the Aggie diploma will just circle the toilet bowl.

Teaching grooming children is really, really bad. It's illegal.

You think the next president will have professors teaching worse? What is worse than grooming children?

Edit: just saw that you've stanned for Welsh on this board before. So obviously some personal connection.

Let me help out here:

1) It was a bribe, based on the dictionary term of a bribe. Here is Marriam-Webster:

Quote:

1: money or favor given or promised in order to influence the judgment or conduct of a person in a position of trust
ex: police officers accused of taking bribes

2: something that serves to induce or influence
Ex: offered the kid a bribe to finish his homework

2) It was not an illegal bribe.

Those words were carefully chosen. Hope that helps.
