The fact that this verdict took this long is going to make good Samaritans think twice before coming to aid.

At least one juror put future victims at risk. Way to go moron(s).

I travel to NYC a few times per year for work and have for 20+ years. Never had an issue until the past few years. Guy pushed his way past me as he got on the subway (crowded and I was by the door), and threatened to stab me and others. Announced "I have a knife and I will stab someone". No way am I intervening to help others with the nonsense happening there. Looking out for Numero Uno and that's it. I stepped off that car as the doors closed. Good luck to the rest of you
You're comments are quite a bit more diplomatic than mine.

From my POV, the women of NYC would be on their own. It's easy for me to say that, but I'm sure Penny is down $500k in attorneys fees and likely doesn't have a job anymore.

If the women of NYC want woke men, they'll get what they vote for---assault and rape will likely be sign of the times in that city, I'm very sorry to say. So many innocent women will be victimized when potential help was there.

I don't really get the logic of being hung on the higher charge yet acquitted on the lower charge.
The only thing I can think of is they knew what the instructions were at the start and when they got changed they basically said "you just changed the goalposts so **** off".

Or it was hung 11-1 for acquittal the whole time and the holdout gave up.

The holdout hoping to jail him for a serious charge realized, after the first charge was dismissed, that the DA was just looking to get some kind of face saving victory and gave in to the rest of the jurors on the justification issue, rather than wasting more time on deliberation which were not going their way.

Or they had a trip coming up and just needed out of jury duty finally. Who knows?

Newley was a known long time homeless person with a long rap sheet, where were these concerned relatives before this. Dad Andre Zachary and his lawyer Donte Mills claims Neely was just asking for food and was killed. What a load of crap. They leave out the part captured on video where had a history of mental illness, approached other riders and screamed that he was hungry, that he wanted to return to jail and that he did not care if he lived or died, was screaming at some young woman with a child in a stroller. That's the point when Penny grabbed him and neutralized the threat. And the BLMers are stirring it up
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because hard men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

I get that, but the logic doesn't follow.

A simple "eff you" verdict is the only explanation.

Surprising lack of the acquittal on liberal Drudge. They must be really sad over there at this bit of justice.

I'm betting on this. When the holdout realized they could be there another week, and no one for acquittal on the basis of justification was going to change their mind, the holdout realized it was either give in and acquit, or waste another week of their life.

It does if that one holdout looked at the news or saw what the NYC mayor had said.

I don't know, but I think he had one and those costs are covered. I wonder if he keeps the surplus?

There was on a similar platform that allows for legal defense funds since gfm didn't. Think it raised north of $3 million.

How ironic that the season finale of Seinfeld (of course set in New York) that the entire premise of that episode was the foursome ignoring a man being robbed and cracking jokes about his weight instead and they were tried under the "Good Samaritan Law":

This is what New York will now look like for any future crimes.

Actually pretty shocked at this. How could they have been split on Count 1, but a unanimous Not Guilty on Count 2?

Jurors may not be book smart or legal smart, but they are probably street smart. Recognized the bait & switch that the prosecution tried to pull and wouldn't stand for it. Even if the defendant is a white man.
Thought there were 2 lawyers on the jury?
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”
