DeSantis has favorables almost as high as Trump, he just couldn't beat Trump but it's pretty clear no one could at this point. Very few Republicans would not vote for him. If he had the Party's backing and Con Media actually pushing him instead of talking about his heels or something he fixes the rest very quickly. He's the only one that is at least acceptable to everyone within the Party though some of the Neocons and some of the folks with a picture of Trump as Jesus might not vote for him. He more than makes up that picking up Catholics and Independents though, some people just like good governance and don't care about policy. It's literally impossible to argue about his competence and he's a low drama guy, that's very attractive to Suburban types.

Trump has a solid minority that despises him and will never vote for him again. Haley would likely win but it would be because of Democrats and Indies because she is a RINO.

You are just revealing your narrow mindedness with this statement.

Desantis is the only real candidate in the field that is in agreement with Trump policies without the baggage of being hated by a significant part of the electorate. Once Trump decided to run and not back Desantis, it was going to be an impossible hill for RD to climb. There is a cult following for Trump, and it is significant, without a doubt, However whether MAGA can win this election is questionable.

So I am not surprised that RD did not win a county because they are going to vote for Trump over Desantis. However, I have little doubt that Desantis would walk away with the Repub nomination and the presidency, if Trump would of simply backed him and he would be an outstanding president and would very much carry on and implement MAGA policies and probably do so better than Trump.

Been out of pocket with no cell service all weekend and just heard the news and caught up on this thread.

It's tough not to be disappointed and frustrated at DeSantis dropping out. I had hoped he would see it through to the convention, but understand his decision.

Mostly I'm sad for Republicans, and even more for America at the opportunity lost. Ron DeSantis would be a generational president. I pray he feels led to try again in 2028.

As things stand, I'll support Trump knowing this country cannot risk four more years of Democrat control, but I'm pessimistic he can win the general given his alienation of independents and more importantly many Republicans.

Republicans have decided to roll the dice with Trump again. I'm afraid it's a really bad bet.

The way some Desantis supporters sound, I don't think they'll be voting Republican in the general. Trump is the future, whether some like it or not. I do think DeSantis dropped out at a great time to reinforce support behind Trump, so I'll give him that.

Regardless of what happens in November, Trump is clearly not "the future". He's nearly 80 years old and has, at most, 5 years left as a meaningful figure in American politics. Statistically it's more likely than not that he'll be dead before whoever wins in 2028 finishes their term in office.

Option C: it makes no sense to alienate future potential support.

DeSantis is the real deal. He has actual policy behind him. He's accomplished a lot. His sincerity is not really in question.

That's really just option A. He's doing what's best for him by not alienating support in the future.

I would personally love to see him serve as Trump's VP and then fill his shoes and take things to another level in 2028. We would miss him as the governor of Florida, but the experience and exposure would be invaluable. Here's to hoping.

Genuinely depressing for me. Biden is and has been a puppet, Trump is a fraud and a ******bag. Not sure when if ever I'll get to cast a vote for someone who deserves to sit in the Oval Office. Increasingly hard to care.

Probably the most disappointed I've ever been with conservatives in my lifetime. We had everything we want in a candidate at the perfect time. He's literally everything Republicans have been clamoring for as long as I can remember.
But the MAGA revenge factor from the low info mouth-breathing wing of the Republican party was too much to overcome. I'll hate it when I'm proven right but he will be destroyed in the general. It won't even be close. They won't need to cheat.

I get the sentiment, but was just listening to today's Ted Cruz podcast, and he happened to note in a pretty long discussion how the media gave trump 3billion in 'in kind' free media exposure in 2016, ultimately driving him to the nomination then, as well, thinking he was the easiest for GCF to beat.

It could just happen again, we will have to see, as you and I have no say really in who the nominee is.

I do think Ted Cruz also would have been a great president.

They will allow Ted Cruz to almost get beat because they are so apathetic to Trump. And that's what the true issue with Trump is...is all the down-ballot races that this is going to impact.

Haley beats Biden. Trump doesn't. But MAGA wants to own the libs. Even though Trump is a lib.
