Yep!!

Juror 113. Male. Says he was carjacked on a specific date in February. That can be used to potentially identify him. But he's not too traumatized to serve on the jury so.

No knowledge of the settlement.

So during the trial, how will the jurors get to the courthouse & park? If they are in their own cars & media and protesters around the courthouse see the same cars every day that would make them pretty identifiable. I mean there is no other business in the whole courthouse, right?

Nelson is up.

He did get his car back and some items in his car. Has not heard of any arrests. He's cool with the interaction with police.

Plays guitar has dog and he names his dog and works for Door Dash. Why are these idiots putting such personal info out there??

Or Ms. Awesome. She was not under oath when Cahill inquired about her knowledge of the settlement.

I'd want to hold one in reserve in case state backstrikes a few. I don't like getting stuck with jurors by default. Especially not in this case based on the pool we've seen so far.

Aaaaannnd he's outta there! Challenge for cause by the defense which was granted by Cahill.

Out of jurors for today. Recess until 9:00 AM Monday. Trial is still scheduled to begin on March 29th.

I'm guessing they're going to have to sequester this jury right? If that's the case then they'd be bussed into the courthouse.

I thought he said that was to ensure that at least 14 showed up. One for good measure? Not sure.

I have wondered that myself. I have been skeptical of Cahill's pollyannaish hopes that the jury will not be required to be sequestered except for during deliberations. Just not seeing it as that practical in this day and age with camera phones and license plates.

It takes what? Ten minutes or so for the outdoors board to track someone down from a license plate? If that?

I would wager someone has been photographing every car going into that parking garage entrance since jury selection began. And what else did we hear many jurors say? That they drove around the block a few times before they could even find the entrance. More opportunities to get the plate #s.

And you are correct that there is no other business happening at the courthouse right now. Process of elimination is pretty simple.

Interesting because early on Cahill had expressed concerns that covid might require 4 alternates instead of the usual two. Maybe he's changed his mind and now wants 3???

So could the jurors remove their plates for the duration of the trial?

"Observers" on the street could still take pics of the people with no plates.

Not without being stopped by cops multiple times on their way to and from the courthouse. Yeah let's let every cop in Minneapolis know who the jurors are, that won't intimidate them or anything bad, right?

Wouldn't they probably be on their very best behavior with a possible juror in the trial?

Another possibility would be for the city to provide them with rental cars, rented in the city's name, for the duration. If the city has $27,000,000 to try to throw the trial, then they should easily be able to afford a dozen or so rental cars.

If the police knew that the jurors had removed their plates, the bigger issue could be if others removed their plates during the trial in order to make the police think that they are jurors, too.

Another possibility could be to issue the jurors a new set of plates that doesn't come back to their name and address and then switch them back after the trial to their old plates.

As was pointed out, though, a GPS tracker could get around that.

Perhaps the jurors, if they are worried, could drive to some other place like maybe the mall and take an uber from there to the courthouse and then uber again from the courthouse back to the mall at the end of the day.

Also, Minneapolis has a pretty large skyway system to get from building to building. If the courthouse where the trial is being held is connected to that system, the jurors could park quite a ways from the courthouse and get there through the skyways.

Any cop seeing a car with no plates automatically assumes it is likely stolen. It could have been stolen in another state and not in their database. They will always stop a vehicle with no plates.

Even temporary dealer plates are in the database and identifiable.

Uber driver picks someone up at the mall and then goes to the courthouse. Now the uber driver knows they are a juror because they have to show a letter and show their ID to enter the parking garage. So that won't work either.

The only way to get jurors in and out of the courthouse during the trial is to sequester them and use a bus with darkened windows.

I honestly just assumed the Jury would be sequestered at a hotel for the duration of the trial - they kicked everyone else out of the courthouse so there's zero chance of anonymity. How can you not declare a mistrial when the press, a protest, a riot, or something else ends up outside of one of their houses during the trial? If they're sequestered without outside contact, you can at least try to limit the damage.

There's thinking outside the box and then there's ridiculousness.

The only solution in this high profile of a case is to sequester the jury.

You would think so, wouldn't you? Cahill was facing a very difficult jury selection as it was. Telling them upfront they would be sequestered for a month or more?

We all remember how long the OJ trial took. Jury was sworn in in November 1994, opening statements began two months later in January 1995. Ended early October 1995. And that was without covid issues (nor camera phones everywhere.) We are in a whole different world now than we were in 1995.

This has disaster written all over it.
