"Another Black man being murdered by police." Huge red flag!!

He's afraid of his wife and doesn't want to be involved in any type of controversy but he could render a not guilty verdict and could explain that to his wife.

Says his nephews and nieces are conspiracy theorists.

Mentions the Trayvon Martin case.

A juror who "wants to make a difference." Another flag.

Can the prospective jurors be asked if they participated in the Floyd protests?

I recall one saying she/he had not. It was part of a rambling response, not in response to a direct question.

His brother was arrested. But his brother never complained about mistreatment by cops or justice system. Brother copped a plea.

It is in the questionnaire, whether they personally or family members or friends participated. So they can ask about that if their answers indicate such activity.

Wow - extreme racism against him daily but he can be fair here.

He used to live in the immediate area of where Flynn died. He's now complaining about police mistreatment he witnessed while there.

He was in the Army. Received hand to hand combat training.

Wife's medical condition might eliminate him.

That's more about money than race.

As Chris Rock said, "If OJ drove a bus, he'd be Orenthal the bus-driving murderer."

This guy backtracks to try to rehabilitate himself to stay on. His wife's health is an issue - then it's not.

Hardship if he's ever sequestered. He has to take care of his wife who has a medical condition. But questioned more closely, walks that back.

He doesn't like the sight of blood. But when asked about autopsy photos he didn't think it would bother him. Have to wonder if this guy knows what the word "autopsy" even means.

Nelson is conferring. By all right he should toss this guy but he's running out of strikes.

Nelson uses a peremptory. He has three left?

Nelson wants to make a record of a challenge for cause of the juror's views against the Minneapolis Police Department particularly.

Cahill denied and made Nelson use a strike.

Not quite. If you say you would believe a cop over a civilian, you get tossed under Logan.

Lunch recess. Going to in camera. Be back at 1:30.

Random assignment of juror numbers when they are selected for the pool. Numerically after that. Think about draft numbers during Vietnam, the higher the number the less likely called to serve.

Mrs. Hawg. Say the jury gets one or two people who want to convict no matter what and ends up being a mistrial because of a hung jury. How does Chauvin precede from there?

Usually, when you pick a jury, you just have a panel in a room. In civil cases, the number is around 64 people ordered randomly. We get your information cards and ask questions accordingly.

I remember once (and only once because it really pissed off the courthouse staff) we asked for a "shuffle." That is where all 64 cards are -- essentially -- shuffled like a deck of cards and the panel is reordered as such. You do that if you have a 64 person panel with good potential jurors weighted heavily in the high numbers.

Depends on if the state wants to go to all of the trouble to retry him.

Different states handle jury selection in different ways. My jaw hit the floor when one of the attorneys for the state said the pool for this trial was over 300 people.

This sounds like a silly question, but at this point, do you think the defense is playing to win, or hoping for a hanged jury?

So say they dont go for a retrial is he is free to continue his life as if he was found not guilty?

I have been in two jury pools where they summoned 180 to 200 (forget the exact number) on two occasions. Of course, probably 2/3rds showed up. One involved something to do with child abuse (I do remember there not being a death involved) and issues regarding children's protective services but I forget the other case but I know it didn't involve a death either.

Always play to win. If they were my representation I'd fire their asses if they weren't.

Yeah no ****, but if you perceive the jury is against you, what are your best options?
