Began watching the live feed and am very ignorant to court matters. How many strikes does each side get?

Interestingly, Juror number 2 stated that when he drove into the courthouse yesterday, he felt reassured by all of the fortifications, not anxious. His view is that he would be protected should any unrest occurred.
There was only 1 AA on the jury and she was reprimanded for talking with the family of the defendant during one of the breaks. Apparently during each break she was talking with the family... which of course... leads to the family talking to the defense attorney.
We had to vote as to whether we felt the trial should continue. We continued.
I knew I was leaving on an international trip 3 days after the trial was over, and leaving my wife and kids at home. It was pretty unsettling, as the Foreman, when we convicted him.
During the penalty stage... the defense attorney explained that based on the people he was around, that having a gun was a necessity. That told me if he got out, 1st thing he'd do is arm himself.
Protecting Jurors is what used to separate us from Mexico. But then, protecting our Electorate used to separate us from Mexico... Yet again... protecting our Judges was what separated us from Mexico.
Not much separates us anymore.

Not getting a good vibe from Juror #4. He has a standard that of the "sole reason" for Floyd's death. Either Chauvin is the sole reason or something else is the "sole reason." That's not the standard, beyond a reasonable doubt is that standard.

Now the they are making a record on a state challenge to the defense's use of a peremptory. State says it was not a race neutral reason for this strike and brings in Juror #1 as they were both Hispanic.
Court has already ruled against the state's challenge to be clear but they are making a record for purposes of appeal.

Juror 1 can't read english that well and number 4 said he had strong opinions on what already happened. Just not as bad as number 3 was. Kind of dumb to say it was based on race
Juror #8 sounds like an older guy to me. (This is his personal juror number not in line he's the 5th prospective juror today. Yesterday, the defense and state agreed to dismiss a list of jurors. So 5,6,7 were likely dismissed yesterday. )

Juror #8 answered he holds a very negative opinion of Chauvin, did when he filled out the questionnaire and still holds the opinion that Chauvin used excessive force.
But then he says he's open to being persuaded otherwise. Now, I would argue that is borderline cause because of the innocent until proven guilty but that's me.

It amazes me that they wouldn't think that was enough already. There's no way that's an impartial juror.

stopped watching to take lunch. Came back to commentary saying they have a guy who is blue lives matter but still things excessive force was used. is that number 8?

Court TV commentators were saying the guy is super confusing because he has such negative views on Chauvin, but went on to state he has very negative views on BLM and very positive views on blue lives matter. He also stated he's afraid of going downtown and fears for his family's safety.

He is borderline under the innocent until proven guilty question, something Judge Cahill picked up with Juror #4's use of the "sole reason" standard as justifying his being stricken.The Fife said:

But Juror #8 is an older guy, CEO type so maybe the defense sees him as a potential stickler and willing to hold his own against a runaway jury hell bent to convict?
IDK, Wish they could redact all personal information from those questionnaires and then put them online to read their answers.
BTW, went back to the Court TV live stream during the lunch recess and turned on the closed captioning. Pretty funny how whoever is doing the cc has little knowledge of legal terms and is flubbing them.
Reminds me of when I was first practicing and using a dictation machine and my secretary would listen and type it up. Rule of Comity came back as rule of comedy, stare decisis came back as starry nights, scintilla of evidence came back as chinchilla of evidence. Didn't take me long to learn to spell those words out. LOL.

Huh, kind of a weird sort of wild card I guess. I'm not on the stream thanks to a webex going on. I could almost see the prosecution getting antsy over him very possibly being unlikely to convict.
While we wait for court to reconvene a funny voir dire scene from the movie The Judge.
