Might he have said something about the cameras in spanish? I heard nothing about them either.

Based on Acevedo's tenure in Austin, I trust him about as far as I could throw him.

I noticed in the Spanish section he said Hardy as well. Whatever happened in this something got FUBAR'd. I suspect there was a tip called in about the Hardy address, it got misheard and written down as Harding. They asked a CI about the address and that person probably went along or knew the Hardy address was a drug house and confirmed. Who knows really. Just wish the truth would come out. But I suspect these two folks were wrongly killed.

I don't know about this wrong house stuff but it sure seems like we need to be asking questions about any cop who has been shot three times in the line of duty. Seriously, at worst it sounds like a dirty or dangerous cop. At best HPD needs to seriously be rethinking it's tactics and how they operate that any member of their force has be shot more than once.

A veteran Houston police narcotics officer has been relieved of duty due to "ongoing questions" that have emerged over his role in a raid last week that ended in a deadly mid-afternoon shootout, police said Thursday.

Five police officers were injured four by gunfire during the Jan. 28 raid in the 7800 block of Harding Street. The officer relieved of duty was not injured in the raid, officials said.

The home's residents Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas were killed in the shootout.

"We have confirmed that at least one narcotics officer has been relieved of duty due to ongoing questions that cannot be answered until the case agent is interviewed," police union president Joe Gamaldi said in a written statement.

There was a statement in the article about the police asking a lady walking down the street about the house. Supposedly she said she didn't know what was going on in there but as she was walking away the officers heard her say on her phone call the cops are at the dope house. hmmmmm...don't remember hearing about that before.

Apparently, there are some serious questions being raised about the validity of the drug purchase alleged the day before the raid...

A lawyer on another forum says that this is now being described as a "botched" raid, and that lies have been discovered in the search warrant affidavit. I would assume regarding the supposed drug buy from the day before.

However, I have not yet confirmed that. Still looking.

So according to this Chronicle article...

They got mj and white powder that was later determined to be cocaine. Now it's back to a white powder.
They initially recovered a couple shotguns, two rifles, and a 357 revolver. Now there's no mention of the 357.
Initially the CI bought Heroin. Now they're saying it's a "brown powder"

No other drugs located in the house, no pariphanilia related to a drug operation (baggies, scales, etc), no unusual amounts of cash, none of the cash allegedly spent by the CI (they had those serial numbers right?)

I have to admit I'm amazed that a cop has been relieved of duty for this. I'm anxious to see what happens next.

The justification for the no knock raid was that the dealer was wearing a handgun during the transaction. This was clearly described in the warrant. The description was a 9mm semi automatic pistol.

Now calibers are hard to differentiate in semi automatics but it's very easy to tell between a semi automatic and a revolver.

The weapon reported at the scene used by the suspect was a 357 revolver.

Nowhere I've seen says a semi automatic pistol was found of any caliber.

This may not be a big deal but the specific description of the handgun and the fact the dealer was wearing it was from what I understand the reason the no knock raid was authorized.

Reported by the chief, but now the results of the search warrant identify only 2 shotguns and 2 rifles and no handguns at all.

Also what if some good police were doing their jobs and the police responsible for the warrant and coordination of the raid put them in a terrible situation? Ultimately leading to them getting shot.

Eh, Art Acevedo is a fascist. He really doesn't need an excuse to kick down doors and kill people he considers inferior to himself.

HPD is going to try to bury this story. It's going to take some media and legal pressure to find the truth. I still think the got the wrong house and people.

Thank you for that link. Unfortunately, hpd isnt 'going to try to bury', hpd has already buried this story in bad faith. There is no excuse for opposing public information requests in this case unless it turns out that these two were supervillain heads of some major investigated criminal network, which seems pretty clear is not the case.

Honestly, its disgusting that the first page of the government employee playbook is to abuse the public information process.

If there is an investigation taking place into what happened, then there absolutely is a reason to not provide the information at this time.

Lets see what AG office does with it.

Eh, maybe so. We will see. Still, obstruction of public information and worse has been a long persistent theme with hpd.

I get where you are coming from and I am sympathetic to an extent, but the problem with this situation (at least potentially) is not so much with the "war on drugs" as it is police policy and the way the courts and the police interact and the deference the cops are given by the courts and the public.

Haven't seen much discussion on the source of the 911 call yet...

Quote:

A 911 call from the mother of now-deceased suspect Rhogena Nicholas put 7815 Harding Street on police radar. Sources close to the investigation say her mother called reporting the 58-year-old was doing drugs inside her own home.

Yeah, definitely drug kingpins that were so dangerous that they needed to do a no knock raid.

Yeah, definitely drug kingpins that were so dangerous that they needed to do a no knock raid.

The outcome of this raid invokes the memory of the explanation given by an Army Major at a press conference for the bombing of the village of Ben Tre during the Tet Offensive, "We had to destroy the village in order to save it."

A confidential informant didn't buy drugs at the southeast Houston home where an investigation turned into a deadly shootout with police last month, according to a new search warrant.

That contradicts information used to get the no-knock search warrant, which said that a confidential informant bought heroin at the house the day before the drug raid. The raid happened on Jan. 28.

Rhogena Nicholas, 58, and Dennis Tuttle, 59, were both killed in the raid at their home on 7815 Harding Street. Four HPD officers were shot and a fifth officer injured his knee.

<snip>

The warrant shows that two bags of heroin were found in Goines' city vehicle.

An officer who has been temporarily relieved of duty told investigators he'd never seen the bags of heroin. However, that contradicts the original warrant indicating that same officer did recognize the substance purchased by the confidential informant as heroin. The original warrant is what led to the raid at the home on Harding.
