He's also an immigrant and an adopted child.

We really need a Dyson Sphere around the earth to keep these illegal aliens off our planet.

Also lots of Jesus and Christian symbolism in the Superman story.

So much of this, even though he was created by Jews.

He was created almost as a version of the golem and was written as a Moses character. You can certainly insert Jesus imagery into the character, but that's not the original intent.

Is the super dog real or CGI?
TCTTS

What we've seen in the trailer is 100% CGI and that will likely remain the case for the movie. Maybe a few shots here and there might ultimately use a real dog, we'll just have to see.

There is nothing I want more than to see flying puppies while drinking beer and eating lots of red meat during the Super Bowl. Watching the reaction of all the ladies at our Super Bowl party will be epic!

New shot at the end of Superman flying. Looks a little goofy, and the Snyder Bros are of course clowning on it, but whatever...

i don't mind it as a short shot intercut with other things, didn't look any worse than Aquaman bouncing around like a frog in JL.

Definitely better than Aquaman.

That said, I'm just not a fan of the Gunn/big head flying aesthetic...

I did think the barrel roll was really cool

It doesn't look that different from the first flight sequence in Man of Steel. If you're going for a vibe of filming a guy's face while he's breaking the sound barrier, it's going to look a bit goofy.

I get that, and it's admittedly a small, inconsequential thing, I just think there are better ways to frame flying shots than the fisheye lens look...

Damn, Christopher Reeve was so perfect in those first two films.

Christopher Reeve perfected the flying scene. Everyone else has been trying to catch him for 46 years and they haven't come close.

Agree. That is stupid looking. I am not feeling great about this.

I've gone from highly questioning including Krypto the dog as a character to most wanting to see how they handle that.

Odd.

I went down a rabbit hole wondering if the original Superman could fly or just jump really, really far and found this.

https://archive.org/details/superman_otr/Superman_400212_01_The_Baby_From_Kry.mp3

It's old episodes of the Superman radio program from the 40s. I figured there might be some Superman Superfans that would appreciate it.

Oh and for the curious, this is the answer I found:

  • Originally, Superman could only jump. Hence why the quote is "leap tall buildings in a single bound" and not "How about the power of flight? That do anything for you? That's levitation, holmes."
  • In the 40s, animators got tired of wasting time and money making Superman jump and have to land places, so they asked DC if they could just make him fly, and DC said yes.
  • So the story became that yes, the yellow sun of earth nourishes Supes in a way gives him strength and powers; however, Krypton was said to have extreme gravity to the point that Kryptonians had to evolve some kind of "anti-gravity organ" so they could exist under the strain.
  • It's been expanded and explained as his ability to create a kind of anti-gravity field around him. You see this a bit in MoS when he first starts trying to fly by jumping around, and then when he starts to actually fly, the rocks around him start floating first.

  • Ostensibly, this also explains his super strength and why he can pick up huge items and catch people without hurting them, or fly while holding Lois without her getting destroyed by the atmosphere.

So yes, Superman can levitate much like you can float around in water. But when he needs to get somewhere fast, he pushes off much like you would the edge of the pool.

When Gunn said they were using the Top Gun: Maverick flying scenes as inspiration, he wasn't kidding...

TCTTS

Factor in the updated, Harold Faltermeyer-inspired John Williams theme as well and it seems Top Gun: Maverick was a pretty big inspiration for this movie all around, which is fine by me.

Yeah originally Superman was just peak human. The explanation was that Kryptonian humans were just much more evolved than Earth humans, hence why he was faster, stronger, and could jump so high. That's why his tagline used to be something like "faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound".

In the theater to watch Sinners, and you see a Superman trailer. Talk about jarring.

I do wonder how much the "almost giving away a secret in an interview" thing is just a way to drum up interest in the project so that people want to see it to figure out the "secret".
