I think a fun Superman plot, especially for one where he is just starting to exist, would be to have the following

- Clark joins paper
- Clark does a profile on Lex, who is doing good things with his money, they become buds
- Lex has something happen to make him lose faith in humanity and superheros
- Lex breaks bad
- Superman must stop Lex, but the Clark part of him is torn between his duty and his friend

Kinda the Smallville arch between Lex and Clark, but it's good.
I like that storyline...as long as Lex's mother isn't also named Martha.
sounds like Spiderman with Toby Mcguire (Both Green Goblin and Doc Ock)

The shocking thing with this cast announcement is that Superman is going to be played....by an American! Have we broken the English/Australian stranglehold on action stars?

Also found this fun fact in IMDB: his maternal grandfather created the Choose Your Own Adventure books which I grew up on.

True, but it's a good story still.

It's hard to tell the story of a narcissist in the time given I think. Just having someone be that way isn't as meaningful as seeing the way they can gaslight things.

I am probably a product of my time, but to me, the most recognizable soundtracks in movie history are Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Superman. John Williams is just incredible

Out of those three, Superman is my favorite. That will be a tall tower for Gunn to exceed, but I hope he pulls it off.

Hard to argue this.

Ironically(?), I think Snyder's Superman theme is way, way up there for me. So, IMO, Gunn is going up against two incredible Superman themes.

Throw in Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, 1941, and Empire of the Sun, and I'm right there with you.

I have always enjoyed Zimmer's Man of Steel score, but compared to Williams' work on Superman, it comes up way short. Gunn will likely face the same issue, at least with me. And no classic rock songs are going to work for Superman as they did so well in the first two Guardians movies.

Let's not forget Queen's Flash Gordon. Possibly my favorite.

One other thing, I'm sure they will have Lex Luthor in some capacity as a villain, but is he the confirmed big bad for the movie?
TCTTS

Luthor is all but confirmed, but no one knows if he's *the* big bad or not. The Authority are also in it, but it's not yet know in what capacity, or if they're good or bad or what. The speculation is that they might be working for/with Luthor, though.

I'm not sure if this should be a spoiler but dont' think so since it's been announced but for anyone who doesn't know who The Authority is (I didn't):

Quote:

In 1999, Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch created the Authority, a team of superheroes who got the job done by any means necessary. The original line-up consisted of Jenny Sparks, a British woman who could generate and turn into electricity; Jack Hawksmoor, who was psychically bonded to cities in order to communicate with them and receive powers from them; Swift, a Tibetan woman who possessed wings and sharp talons; Apollo, a bio-engineered Superman pastiche; Midnighter, a bio-engineered Batman pastiche who possessed the ability to foresee his opponents' moves in combat; The Engineer, a scientist who had replaced her blood with nine pints of nanotechnology and could create solid objects with it; and The Doctor, a Dutch drug addict and shaman who possessed the combined powers of the hundreds of shamans who came before him.

Of note I would have thought the Jack Hawksmoor character was bizarre as hell if I had not seen Doom Patrol where a similar character exists. Is Doom Patrol character the same one here?

If anyone is interested I have an almost 700 song Epic Movie Soundtrack playlist that's constantly evolving.

I also read that as physically bonded and not psychically bonded so less bizarre. I guess.

Sounds to me like we'll be spending a lot of time at The Daily Planet, with plenty of Lois and Clark interaction, likely hot on the trail of some big story. I'm so ready for that kind of Superman movie again, with the cherry on top being the revelation that Brosnahan is officially the co-lead (and not just the glorified female love interest). I'm getting more and more excited for this movie by the day…

I love this idea because it still makes it a James Gunn movie, and gives it a James Gunn vibe, but with a reversed dynamic. So, instead of the heroes being the crass, crude, cynical losers (Guardians, Suicide Squad), it's the *world* that's crass, crude, and cynical, and then Gunn is tossing a Boy Scout in the middle of it. It's such a smart way to approach the character, and highlight/challenge his most notable traits.

If I learned anything from The Batman, it's not to cast dispersions about the lead until I actually see the movie. At this point, I trust Gunn to make a good decision and a good movie. That being said, as maybe the only person on the planet that really enjoyed Man of Steel, I will genuinely miss Cavill.

I like Cavill a lot, and no one will ever *look* the part more than him. But I have a feeling, after Gunn's version comes out, Cavill is going to feel so incredibly stiff/stoic/dour in comparison. He was good, but there just wasn't a lot of charm or range with that iteration of the character. That, and he had zero chemistry with Amy Adams, who was horribly miscast. We'll always appreciate Cavill, but I think this new iteration is going to feel like a breath of fresh air, and will be way more fun, relatable, empathetic, etc. Throw in Rachel Brosnahan on the other side of that equation, and we could be in for something special.

Considering the backdrop of the world right now being just that, this is a timely plot line by Gunn. I suspect it will be a massive hit.

Agreed. I feel like the movie gets better with each rewatch. I just wish it had led into a different movie with Cavill being able to show some charm and range.

Agreed. And it's for that reason I disagree with those saying Cavill should be the next Bond. I think he's too stiff, and in the case of Bond I prefer a rougher looking Bond than a Moore/Pierce/Cavill type.

This new Superman could end up feeling like Craig when he was cast as Bond. When the casting was announced, many didn't think he 'looked' the part enough, but then he absolutely owned it on the screen and gave the character more depth and relatability.

I don't think Cavill is naturally stiff as an actor. I feel like every actor in Snyder's movies becomes bizarrely wooden. Affleck was the only one to kind of break from that, and probably only because Batman yells things with a deep voice a lot.

ok - this has my attention now!
Truth, justice, and the America Way is really coming back?
they brought in a non-woke director that just wants to make a great movie for all?

Hollywood sees Top Gun Maverick success... decides to follow that path with Superman... GREAT!

is this true or am I trying too hard to believe it
