I'll give it a shot but so far I miss Cavill and his suit. Could be a good story though and it will be good to have Supes back again.

I'm in the extreme texags minority of loving the colors on the trailer. it's a comic book movie. That's what a comic book looks like.

Yeah, and I don't get the complaints about the suit either.

The only problem with the suit is that it is different from what we've seen before. I recall similar complaints prior to Man of Steel.

It just looks frumpy to me. I prefer the sleek pantless look of MOS. But I concede that this new suit is a throwback to the original with all the nostalgia that brings.

It looks terrible. Would probably be fine if they just fixed the diaper.

Maybe if you guys would stop objectifying Superman and fixating on his ass and ***** area, you wouldn't have such a problem with it.

Dude I don't know what it is…..

Maybe it's John Williams just being John Williams….maybe it's the fact that Christopher Reeves was attached to the original and his story….maybe it's the fact that it's attached to one of the first comic book movies ever made…..but jeez this character just hits different….

I by no means am a big Superman fan…..I've never read a single comic book….and even I got emotional watching this trailer for the first time…..

I already spoke with my boys after showing them this and we all agreed we want to be in on this start to this DC Universe and they're excited as hell……and they haven't even seen the original Christopher Reeves versions…..

Again…there's just something special about Superman that even my kids get and they don't have the nostalgia to lean on…..

Please….please….please be good!

I've enjoyed going through YouTube and watching everyone's reactions from watching this trailer. I actually stumbled across this video a couple days ago and enjoyed watching his enthusiam. Sure, he may be a little off, but we all are a little off under the right circumstances when it comes to watching or doing something we're really passionate about. I WANT to watch this movie in a theater surrounded by people that love Superman and want to feel like a kid again. We go to Aggie football games for the experience and celebrate together when our team succeeds. I've hugged countless strangers at tu games and Rangers World Series games when the team comes up with THAT moment that sends everyone home happy. Why not experience something similar in a movie theater with a couple hundred strangers?

I can't wait to see Gunn's take on Superman this summer.

You should rectify that. But I'll only recommend the first one. Superman II was a lot of fun when it came out, but it is a movie that has not withstood the test of time. Although it still has one of the best sequences in such a movie right at the end. If they want to watch any further sequels, I'd tell them they're on their own for III and IV. Superman Returns was good not great, and obviously does not feature the late Christopher Reeve in the titular role but it is probably what should have been Superman III.

-BATMAN
To me, this quote from an early issue of BATMAN/SUPERMAN sums up what Superman nicely. This trailer seems to go with that, and it makes me hopeful. Superman should be a little corny, dorky and a big ol' Boy Scout. We already have Homelander, I'd prefer Superman not follow suit, but I'm a little (maybe a lot) corny too.

A spot for the movie debuted during the Netflix NFL games on Christmas Day, to which one of my uncles, who's in his late 60s, goes, "Oh, wow, they're making a new Superman movie?!" This is someone who's not into superhero movies at all, btw. I told him yeah, there's a full trailer out, which he asked to see. So I showed it to my entire extended family and afterwards, my dad, who's in early 70s and hates superhero movies even more than my uncle, goes, "Okay, I'll definitely see that." Same goes for one of my sisters, who only likes the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and the Holland Spider-Man movies. She said she had no interest in "that dark Superman movie" (Man of Steel) but now really wants to see this one. No one in the room had even seen Man of Steel, as they all seemed turned off by how serious it looked, but REALLY responded to this trailer. My immediate family is all big The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel fans as well, so they were especially into the Brosnahan casting, but everyone even liked Krypto too.

Anyway, I know it's not the most accurate sample, but if my family is any indication whatsoever, and the movie is even remotely good, based on all the other buzz so far, we could be in for something big.

I've never read comics, so maybe this is a questioned that would be answered if I did....

But what's up with everyone hating on Superman in the most recent movies. As a kid, I dont remember everyone wanting him gone/dead. But the most recent movies, they're all against him...and they're throwing things at him in the trailer. Is this a DC thing? A comic thing?

Just curious.

It seems to be a thing in comic book movies, both DC and Marvel. People were off of the Avengers because of New York and Sokovia. They got blamed for all of that. Superman got blamed for all that happened with Zod, etc.

I think in this case it's just a plot point in the movie. In the trailer you see a kid wishing for Superman, followed by a Superman, Superman, Superman chant. The director said most of the trailer happens pretty early, so I'm assuming Lex does something to destroy Superman's reputation.

With Man of Steel/BvS/JL, Snyder was trying to show how he thought Superman would be received in our world -a lot of skepticism and mistrust. He built him up like a God to be torn down by Lex, and his plan was for Superman to lose his trust in the world, go bad, then come back to the good side and be the symbol of hope that he's supposed to be.

In the comics, Superman is one of the most popular superheroes in-universe. I've been reading the stuff from 2011 to present, along with some of the classics, and, other than when DC went edgy in their comics from 2011-2015, Superman has been stereotypical Superman. He's a symbol of hope, everyone loves him, and he has some GREAT recent stories.

Maybe the comics have covered this or maybe it's too sensitive a subject, but I always thought a great plot for the comics would be Superman being off world when September 11th happens and having to come back to the guilt of not being there when America is attacked.

Yeah, I played the trailer for my family over Christmas as well. My wife's immediate reaction was "That looks terrible." My wife likes darker stuff though. She's not one for happy touchy feely stuff at all. Hates rom-coms.

No one else in my family even made a comment.

Basically, my family are inhuman.

And I cannot think of a superman origin story. Are you talking about the TV shows? Because I have never watched those. I wish they would do it in the movies.
Now you're just trolling. Seriously.

Superman: The Movie had his origin story.

Man of Steel had his origin story.

Those are movies.

I'm not talking about a few scenes when he was a teenager, I mean literally focusing an entire movie on his youth.

For example, a huge percentage of people who had God powers would NOT use it to selflessly defend others and fight crime. These movies don't come close to explaining how Superman chose the opposite path other than "he's a good guy".

Like have young Superman use his super strength to accidentally kill his best friend. Then avow to never hurt an innocent person again. Something different like that.

Superman is from Krypton, a species of being with perfected genetics. His birth parents were actually that good. Then he was found by some of the best people in the entire DCU and raised a farm boy who valued all life while understanding the value of hard work and sacrifice.

Superman is good because his genetics and upbringing virtually guaranteed he would be good. The idea of him ever choosing to be bad is anathema to his birth and adoptive parents.

Think about the normal person from a midwestern state who grew up on a farm. Do any of these people strike you as someone who would become a bad person? His birth parents were probably the greatest examples of Kryptonians his entire species had. His entire family was held up among a species of near godlike beings as an ideal to strive to.

Don't psychoanalyze jt, just accept he's a genuinely good person because he had fantastic advantages in all aspects of his life.
Also lots of Jesus and Christian symbolism in the Superman story.

I found Zack Snyder

Superman's original intention (created by two Jewish guys) was to stand up for the "little man" against social injustices and sort of a power fantasy by the creators to live vicariously through. So not really a Christian symbol, per se, although Zack Snyder gave a lot of that symbolism across his three movies that involved Superman.
