Alternate ending theory - Jaimie is playing the ME chick and will ultimately side with the family, probably dying as he saves Beth from death.

Pretty sure he will get into motorcycles just in time to lead a police chase down the highway and crashes on purpose while he's holding his arms out like Jesus.

The absolute worst character is the female Indian attorney that is trying to screw over Rainwater. Her tone and speech cadence is so over the top bad I am surprised that the director actually allows it.
I really want to punch her in the face, but it would just make her fat lips that much bigger.

Beth walks into Jaime's office with a bowl of nightlock berries, lays them on his desk, and leaves. Jaime exclaims, ' Oh s**t, not this again! Fade to black.....

My humble hope for this show's ending is:

...that Beth discovers the "let's get you into the Governor's seat Jamie" plot, killing Sarah Atwood in an alcohol-induced, somewhat Oedipus complex fueled rage. This abrupt c-block by Beth sends Jamie over the edge, and he slays Beth, unfortunately in front of Rip. This transgression, taken as a singular event might have been allowed to stand, but as Beth had previously disclosed the sterilization to Rip, he feels he has no choice but to send Jamie to the train station. John decides this is indeed a happy day and refuses to be sad at their passing.

However, the toll of trying to please two women finally catches up to John, who passes away while engaged in a celebratory tryst in his office with the Vegan. His assistant, whom he was also secretly romancing, opens the Governor's office door to find the bitter sting of death still hanging heavy, as John lays motionless on the crying Vegan. Realizing life is short, the Vegan decides then and there to embrace the Montana life fully, renouncing her vegan lifestyle and takes a position working as a ranch hand under the tutelage of Teeter. John's assistant covers up the exact manner of death, and the fine citizens of Montana elect Kayce as the new governor.

Unfortunately the Market Equities lady Caroline Warner's bloodlust for the Duttons is not yet satisfied, so in she comes, guns-a-blazing, striking down Kayce and Monica on inauguration night. Arrested and tried by a jury of her peers, she begins 2 consecutive life sentences, sparking a new Sheridan spin-off show, Shelby, the town in Montana where federal prisoners are held.

Newly single and longing for a son, Rip adopts Tate, who inherits the entirety of the Dutton ranch upon his 18th birthday. Heartless Market Equities STILL has their lawyers pursuing the land for the development, but thankfully Kayce taught young Tate how to speak with wolves, and our young hero Tate rallies the Facebooking, collared pack to disrupt the development at every turn, finally causing ME to decide they can't win against the federally-protected species.

In the final scenes, Rip, now an old man, sits on the porch with a middle-aged Tate and a couple of wolves, "O-Six" and "Beth". They share a drink while reminiscing about the past. Out walks Tate's two kids; a boy, named Kayce, and a girl, named Autumn. Next walks out his wife, surprisingly, the Vegan. They all gaze out at the setting sun.

Fade to black...

I loved the book and bought I for my kids last year. The Texas flag (and map maybe?) jumped out to me as well.

And let me be #17 to applaud you on the connection. We're all going to be shocked to see her at the red carpet premier for next season to discover she's actually a platinum blonde.

Re: Beth:

I attributed it to throwback warm and fuzzies to a simpler time when her Mom was still alive and all was right on the ranch. They had a throwback shot in one of the earlier seasons where the kids were out riding with their Mom before the Mom's demise.

I, too, like the fact that they're continuing to grow the characters. Losing a child will do that to you. Realizing that not only your ancestors -- but your real-time family could lose the very same land can have a sobering and reflective impact on a person.

I've heard it said that we become more mature and wiser when we truly begin to grasp how much of what we think we know ... we discover that we don't know at all.

Tate Dutton is, in fact, the 7th generation of the family. In the finale of 1883, a Crow elder named Spotted Eagle warned James that in 7 generations, his people will rise up and take back the land he was about to settle on.

I'm just here to say I really, REALLY hate Beth. She's a rampant PMSing ***** 24/7 and nobody will smack her down and shut her up. I also hate that weird Indian ***** with the mouth that looks like a small black dog turd.

I'm beginning to wonder about Taylor Sheridan and why he keeps writing in annoying female characters in his shows (cough/1883/cough). I guess we'll see Sunday if he's going to put one in 1923 as well.
