'Yeah I'm thinking they donate the land or sell it for .25 on the dollar (better than .10 on the dollar) to the federal government and declare it both protected national park land and/or indian land. they retain like 10% of the land where they live etc.

Made a big deal about the $500M being too much of the state's annual budget but thats a drop in the bucket for the federal government.

Don't forget that in 1883, the Indian chief who let Tim McGraw settle the land said it would revert back to the Indians after 7 generations. Bigger fans than me have done the math and apparently that's Tate.

I agree on the Tate angle....I posted that on the Season 4 thread.

A****er was a loose end and had to be sewn up by the Houston Merc Group.

Can anybody explain the math on why they cannot sell the ranch? How would the taxes exceed to sales proceeds?

Estate tax, but that is a huge plot hole given Beth's supposed business savvy.

I'm behind, so I apologize if this was already discussed....

But in Ep.1 & 2, did they get a scene out of order?

Beth is upset her father died, and calls Rip. Then you see her later saying she had booked a flight and was coming down to Texas to bang him.

We see him down in Texas, then a random standalone scene at the end of the show where he came home to Montana, and she falls down crying. After that, the next scene (Ep.2), he's back in Texas, and she's making her way to him.

I dont know if that was supposed to be a random flashback that didnt make sense, with her falling down upset when her dad died when she sees Rip, or if they got that scene out of order. Either way, it was really odd and poorly done.

Also, I've said this before, but Sheridan's stories are always a mile wide, and an inch deep. This season is taking that to another level. No details, just unexplained storylines...

They put a dude on a horse and spin him in a circle. Wherever the horse stops is the storyline and timeline evolution. It's like rodeo tricks meets Wheel of Fortune meets Mad Libs.

No. There is no need for an additional twist like that.

Estate taxes are only a portion of the value of the estate. If they sold the ranch, they could pay the taxes and divvy up the remainder. Yet they acted like the taxes would be more than the sale proceeds. That makes no sense. Estate taxes are not in excess of 100%.

They attempted to address this by saying the IRS will use a different appraisal than what the state does.

That's the leading Reddit theory.

I don't think so. However here are the evidence based moments that are pushing that

1. The voice in this last episode when "Grant" sees the news coverage and calls his "contact", the voice is similar if not the same

2. He was "out of the country" and just got back when he answered Kayce's call, but was putting up several items that looked like he was on a job that someone was killed, and was wearing clothing much like if not exactly like what the three hitmen wore during the assasination

3. Why bring the character into the fray for a 2 minute conversation across 2 scenes if they aren't going to play more towards the plot. And then have a replay of that conversation played in recaps.

4. Leading theory is in the preview of next episode, when hoodie Kayce gets into a car saying "I know everything" it is either this buddy or Jamie. They feel that after the tossing Jamie last episode, he wouldn't be that subtle in a follow up.

5. The matter of execution to Sarah is the same Kayce did to his Monica's brother. 1 to the head, circle of 5 to the heart.

Again, I don't think that's how it goes down. However many have made a huge deal about Sheridan taking inspiration from past works, and that this would follow the lead from The Terminal List. Good friend appears to be helping a vendetta but was actually a part of the original killing.

I give it 2 spinny horses out of 10 of being realistic of happening.

Beth said she has a hotel in Amarillo. I hate to tell her but that is a long way from the 6666 ranch for a quick place to stay.

I feel like Rip has some sort of magic carpet as he travels the panhandle and west Texas……always back in time to be with the herd and have some campfire beans.

I'm with you. And if this is what ultimately happens, I don't think they will have handled it properly. The betrayal angle only works if you're invested in the characters. I'm not sure I could even pick that guy out of a police lineup right now. They just haven't put in the backstory for that to work well.

My theories are:

Jamie FINALLY steps up to the plate and takes one for the family. Be that a bullet, a prison sentence, or a complete rat with immunity against Market Equities. With Sheridan's desire for foreshadowing and Beth saying "I'll be the last face you see before you die", I'm betting he and Beth get into a
Situation where one or the other dies by the Houston hit company or other market equities bad actors, and he makes ammends before being killed apologizing to his sister after selling out the people coming for the ranch. He gets his redemption moment though he doesn't deserve it

Beth/Kayce end up making sure the entire ranch is intact through Tate, a protected person both through the trust and through Native American law inherited everything. Kayce and Monica stay on with him in their small house, the Big House is used for a money making tourism state along with a Native American "tour-ish" method by Rainwater/Monica. Kayce runs cows and farms the ranch until Tate is ready to take over.

Rip and Beth move to Texas and buy into the 6666 ranch, leading to them being the leads of a spinoff 6666 series with their adopted son.

When the hit broker in Houston is watching the news conference about the case being declared a murder, he doesn't call a subordinate and instruct them to go kill Sarah. He calls someone else and asks "Are you seeing this?".

I previously thought he was the man in charge, at least of the hit operation. This leads me to believe he actually reports to someone else.

Yup which is why Kayce said to the cops to make a big deal about it. It would force the hitmen to clean up their tracks

We only see that brief snippet of dialogue. We actually don't know who he calls. I still think he's in charge of the hit operation and could easily have been calling one of the operators on the original hit.

Pretty sure in the first episode, it said something like "6 weeks earlier" when Rip et al were driving down to Tx. So every scene at the 6666 is a flashback. Beth going down to visit is prior to John's death. The assassination occurs on Beth's way back to Yellowstone.

Dixon Creek Ranch division is only 50 miles from Amarillo. There was a time when I would have made a 50 mile trip for a poke.

Let me say this in defense of the show. As someone noted, it distinctly said "six weeks earlier" during Episode 9.

Since then they have mixed the two timelines, but the characters are either relatively happy or extremely tense. The timeline of a particular scene should be self-evident.
