Trying to pick out scenes enjoy highlights a major gripe. I realize many new movies now do this but still--this is Star Wars. I am not talking about "wipes" and scene cuts--- but excessive speed. One of the more basic complaints is how excessively fast the action scenes are. Its not even the semi-high speed of ROTS or the somewhat slower ROTJ. You literally have almost no time to enjoy the great scenes or vessels in view. Ironically, one of the best scenes in TROS battle is where you see the first ordinary Sith Destroyer split and blow up after its gun was taken out. The scene lingers long enough that it really reminds of a scene never seen in ROTJ, but that the posters said was happening. But except for the action against Kylo's ship -- it never slows down again enough to enjoy anything. Similar goes for that interesting planet that seemed to be invoking an occupied town -- and perhaps because of Christmas time, it felt like Herod the Great's troops seeking baby Jesus in tone with all the dark streets and sneaking around. But you don't spend much time there either.

Eveything so fast, so excessively so. Is it really good to feel you must have freeze-frame to enjoy a movie?

Finally got to see it. I thought it was a mess. It was still entertaining, but it was all over the place. For the record, I enjoyed Last Jedi, but felt like it screwed up where the trilogy was going. JJ was put in a really tough spot to try and land this thing. He landed it, but it was rough. It's really clear though, that there was no real plan for this trilogy. All together, seven, eight, and nine were not a good trilogy, even though I enjoyed each movie individually.

After my second viewing I confirmed my initial thoughts....

That this movie SUCKED. Omg chewie died...Sike...wait C3P0 lost his memory...nope. Palpatine comes back but it's not explained how? And only to go out in the most lamest way ever.

Please please PLEASE let Kevin Feige come and save this franchise.

Maybe you should go see it 3 or 4 more times to reconfirm the reconfirmation of your confirmation.

Then stream it on Disney plus for $6.99/month to make sure it sucks on various formats.

The movies would be 9 minutes long if storm troopers could spend 5 minutes on the gun range learning to shoot a little better.

Probably an unpopular opinion on a board where negative Nancy's come to gripe.... I liked it and thought it was a good way to go out. It was a tough one to write and not sure how they could have gone out any better.

The only thing I would have liked to see was a small tie in to the Mandolorian.

At the very end on Tattooine (I think I have the scene correct). There was a shot of one of those big Jawa vehicles, that looked just like the one the Mandalorian climbed and fought them on... was that not the same one? I thought that was the tie in.

True, that was a good tie in. I wasn't looking for a major plot line tie in, really just an Easter Egg. Maybe I am just looking for a way to explain the existence of Baby Yoda in a world where there is not supposed to be any more Jedi... or maybe I just need to wait and see how they finish the Mandolorian series.

2nd viewing last night - just as good if not better the second time. I did not feel confused or lost due to the frantic pace during the early parts as I understood what was going on and could just roll with it and also pick up on more detail.
Nice. Would you mind explaining a couple questions I had?

SURE

  • How is Palpatine still alive?

It's Sci-fi - i mean we never saw him die actually.

  • What was that banana slug looking guy on the falcon? and like, what exactly can he do with 0 appendages?
Klaud, the alien who appeared on the Millennium Falcon near the beginning of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, is a Trodatome who is along for the ride to help our favorite heroes. He has a talent for working with mechanical systems and was originally planning on joining for a parts pickup on Sinta. Unfortunatley for Klaud, it turned out to be much more dangerous.

  • What was the point of light skipping? So now Tie Fighters can still follow them through hyperspace?

Technological advancements sure.....and the purpose was to do something different and creat tension for Po/Rey

  • Why did the Sith Fleet (is that what they were called?) need a radio signal to like, just move?

Something about that planet while in it's atmosphere meant they needed a beacon to base off of.

  • So wtf, Palpatine had a Son? Who is the mom? Where were they during ALL OF STAR WARS?

Sure why not.....he was from Naboo and could have had kids. Just cuz we didn't see them doesn't mean anything,

  • Why did anyone need a dagger map to point them to the throne room of the wrecked Death Star Wouldn't that literally be the first place someone would look? Like, scavengers alone would be crawling over that looking for valuables.

Seemed like it was hard to get to with the oceans. The dagger map well I mean it could literally be anywhere. You're basically saying why did they look in that haystack. Well there are infinite other haystacks. Who even knew there were Sith wayfinders, seems like only Kylo recently and Rey just found out about them.

  • What if Rey was standing in literally any other spot? How would the dagger work for any other vantage point?

Solid point.

  • How was the sith wayfinder in Kylo's second ship after his first ship (which was carrying it) exploded?

It's resilient.

  • How did the sexy daft punk lady make it off cajimi before it exploded when she gave Poe her poker chip thingy?

Seems she has her ways - how did she get it in the first place. She maybe had the mean to get more or other favors. I'm not actually sure getting off the planet was a problem it was getting through FO blockades.

  • Why did Sidious electrocute himself again? This is the third time he's done that. Wouldn't he just like, stop?

He believed he was more powerful than her.

  • What did Finn want to tell Rey? Why did it keep getting brought up if they weren't going to pay that off?

That he was force sensitive - which was obvious to us so it did not need to be said for the viewer cuz we could see him doing it but she could not.

  • Has anyone ever died from falling down a pit in Star Wars? Why did Palpatine think that would work against Kylo?

No. Apparently even Boba Fett survived the Sarlac pit - in SW lore. Palps thought he was stronger again and even if he came back he would kil him again he had all those other sith also.

  • Dyads? Sith empress? life force? what?

Dyad - bond between two jedi that makes them stronger combined - he drew that force from them. Him the son of a Skywalker and her the daughter of a Palpatine. Combined = greatness. Empress Palpatine is just a cool title.

  • How did Maz find Luke's lightsaber? Actually, how TF did Rey have it after it was exploded in TLJ?

We never found out how Maz got it . Rey reassembled it after TLJ.

  • So in Empire, Luke is wrecked to learn about Darth being his father and admonishes Yoda for he and Obi keeping that a secret from him...but he and Leia SOMEHOW knew Rey was a Palpatine but neglected to tell her....because why exactly?

History repeats itself and he could now identify with why they did that. He saw value in her completing her training before she found out - just like Yoda thought for him.

Yeah, I thought it was just a little fun easter egg. I'd have to see both again, but I thought it was an exact shot from a scene in The Mandalorian. Could be wrong though.

I Have Spoken said:

I like the idea that I read earlier that it would have been better to go with Plagueis as the big bad. Another part that felt like it was trying to be Endgame was where Palps said, "I am all of the sith", and then you get the response from Rey with the dramatic pause of being all of the Jedi. That comment fell a little flat with me, otherwise I enjoyed the way they did that whole scene.

They could have kept everything the same and made only these changes:

1. Ian McDiarmid is the same except he's not Palpatine he's Plagueis. All you need is some minor dialogue footwork - he is all the Sith, point stands, makes the total arc of "evil" spanning even MORE bad guys (Palpatine, Snoke BOTH become tools rather than the final end).

2. Fleet can still be awesome but instead of being the stupid final-final-srsly we mean it-final-order it can just be the Sith fleet. Instead of new advanced tech, make it ancient Sith planet killing tech, which the Death Star was a dumbed down version of.

Ta da much more epic. Wraps up literally all nine movies, leaves room for some epic Sith background, and the question of "is there one before Plagueis?"
K2aggie,

Your No.1 echoes my view, and your No.2 is a great idea, really, and could solve much. If it is ancient Sith tech, it nicely explains why the weapons looks so crudely "retro-fitted" onto the Rogue-1 era Destroyers. (They are not even TESB era -- they have the elevated center array of ANH on the tower -- which were still present in two cases in TESB but not the main ships any more) It also is worth noting that the Death Star main battery is still far more powerful -- obliterating fully a world in a punch -- and so does seem later technology. This of course gets into sci-fi nerd territory, but is fun. Your idea it is a Sith fleet that sat out the Rebellion (OT) could make alot of sense. But only if the villain is not Palpatine, but a greater Sith figure. Otherwise Palp would have used the Sith fleet to win TESB-ROTJ era conflict. But the old design of the destroyers is a give-away they are an earlier accumulation in my opinion.

This ties to M.C.Swag's big question here on this:

Quote:

Why did the Sith Fleet (is that what they were called?) need a radio signal to like, just move?

Though the mechanics were a bit vague, it was made clear (in a "decree by the script" kind of way) that something like the Nebula in Wrath of Khan the conditions around Exogol made it difficult to impossible for a vessel to navigate off the world without aid. Its probably more a case of certain "barriers" in the Pacific that were considered impassable, but a daredevil or reckless enough warship could pull it off. Probably the Sith deliberately gathered vessels there knowing the headache of lack of easy landing and lift-off was compensated for by being relative free from risk of detection.

Notice that the Final Order/Sith Fleet had no problem dispatching a single Destroyer to eliminate the Zorii character's world (Aside: why on earth was such a good looking woman not shown even in the face?!?) That destroyer was presumably directed out in the same manner all the others were later going to follow. If you look at how things unfolded, they were simply completely (somewhat unbelievably) overpowered by the much greater numbers of arriving coalition ships. The signal was needed to move out en-masse. Have little doubt an individual one here or there could easily have "taken the risk" and headed out if there was a severe enough danger like the planet exploding being imminent.

The original Star Wars trilogy is vastly superior to anything MCU. And it's not close.

And the formulaic trash that this latest trilogy produced is the same formulaic trash that MCU produces in every movie.

I think the scene with Han and Ben is the best scene in the entire Star Wars corpus. The whole movie - the whole sequel trilogy - was worth it if for nothing else but that scene. It was wonderful.

The MCU has mind of ruined Star Wars for me. I was 100x more invested in Endgame than Skywalker. I've been a bigger SW fan for as long as I can remember.
