And I want to watch a story about who digs up those light sabers and why.

As a slight aside, I know it's common to rank the prequels low, but Revenge of the Sith is in the top 3 for me.

There is no scene as emotional as the immolation scene on Mustafar. It lines up really well with the PTSD Alec Guiness put into his portrayal of Obi Wan, especially when he was telling Luke a half truth about Anakin

the dialogue in all of the prequels just killed them for me. Even the duel at the end. Just brutal.

Generally speaking, I agree. But those last two minutes on Mustafar were nails. Hayden Christensen even broke free of the wooden portrayal for a moment to give that pure guttural "I hate you!" to Obi Wan.

If that's the point that The Last Jedi was trying to make, it was 18 years too late. Heck, 40 years too late because Luke was from the middle of nowhere on Tatooine.

Umm...I don't want to spoil anything, but Luke's father was actually kind of significant.

I thought the "high ground" comment was lame. And anakin was a whiny little bich to the end. But I'll give you that it was less bad than most of the movie

Rey was created by Palpatine...ok that's fine. Maybe he manipulated the midi chlorians like he allegedly did with Anakin and that's the big reveal.

I can't believe this crap about Rey's Dad being Palp's kid like it's implying there's some normal palpatine family just hanging out in the suburbs. It's too weird. Oh hey honey I forgot to tell you my Dad is also this all powerful Sith Lord we need to go hide our daughter from him. Was it not obvious at the wedding something was off about him?

Well, there are a few options here:

1) Palpatine had a secret wife on Corsucant who he hung out with on the weekends between mass killings, had a daughter. The daughter then rebelled and married a nice kid from Jakku and they had a baby girl. The baby girl was force sensitive, so now he cares.

2) Palpatine banged whoever he could and didn't care about the repercussions. Hey, he found out he had a daughter. She didn't amount to much and wasn't in touch with the force, so he doesn't care about her. But, he finds out she eventually has a daughter who is force sensitive. Now he cares.

3) Palpatine engineered a girl (as he did with Anakin), but she was not force sensitive, so he discarded her. She eventually has a baby girl who is force sensitive. Now he cares.

I think options 2 and 3 are likely.

I guarantee you, this will all get explained somehow. Either a Disney+ show, or a book. I just wish it could have happened as a Ep 9 Part 1 Movie.

Not a good movie. Editing was rough. It's baffling the storyline wasn't hammered out from the get-go. Maybe we can come up with a clever interpretive framework to watch all 9 8 in like Machete order did with the first 6 5 to make it feel coherent.

I think there was at least a handful of things that were screwed up by Carrie Fisher dying. I think that forced a lot of rewrites and oddly edited scenes.

How many of you are complaining about a movie you didn't watch and are just parroting negative reviews? Show of hands.

Because this comment must have come from someone who obviously did not watch TROS.

I also don't think you watched the prequels, because Palpatine was a senator from Naboo before he was chancellor or emperor. It's not that big a deal to throw in that he had a kid or a grandkid. He wasn't living in that Sith temple his whole life.

You must have found out your not getting what you want for Christmas, because you came in here all pissed off.
Not that I expect you to read any of my posts in this thread, but you will see that I did enjoy this movie. There are flaws, but I enjoyed it.
That being said, saying I haven't watched 4 of the 9 episodes is basically asking for a fight.
I'm not really sure how you assumed my comments were parroting bad reviews or that I haven't seen half the movies. I'm merely responding to the previous post with possible theories on why it is plausible that Palpatine had a child. I'm kind of thinking you really didn't read this. Your almost arguing my point exactly. But I chose to help build out a theory and not be a jackass.

Kylo told Rey, specifically, that her father was a Palpatine. That's not my interpretation or theory, but was spelled out and illustrated in the movie we saw Thursday night.

And the next person to comment on my mood or psychology can meet me in the parking lot.

*I am a little annoyed by an issue with the Christmas lights, but that's neither here nor there.

Eh, "anyone can be Jedi" is a plot development I liked. I think it's BS to say that you have to be of a certain bloodline, born with just the right midichlorian count, etc. It's exclusionary and makes the movies less interesting in the long run. I didn't like a lot of Johnson's choices, but that one was I was all for.
You may have liked it, but it goes against the rules of the Star Wars universe.

And furthermore, it's real life. Not just anyone can be an NFL or NBA player, either, no matter how much you would like that to be true.

Not just anyone can be a successful screen writer, producer, etc., either. Only a limited number of people have the talent for it. It's just how it things are.

It's pretty common in fiction to have the character be "special" because vicariously we all want to believe we're special.

At the same time it's a very unAmerican, elitist concept. In America anybody can become better than what they started out as. With hard work and initiative you can accomplish quite a bit.

Maybe not ALL the way to the NFL or the White House, but perhaps as far as becoming a college walk on or state senator.

So many people like to see that in our fiction as well. The idea that what set Luke apart was his character and not simply his lineage.

Lucas lost that with Anakin's immaculate conception and of course Abrams double downed on Mary Sue being Palpatine's grand baby.

Which is still true. I think much of the saga is about the different choices people make when faced with similar challenges/gifts.

Great Movie. People complaining are just finding things to complain about. I thought it was a really good ending to the Saga. Very fitting.

And the force is an 'energy that binds all living things.' Has been since the beginning. I'm fine with some of the other characters 'feeling' the force at the end.

No, they're not. There were a lot of legitimate flaws with the movie.

Literally every other Star Wars movie *other than* The Last Jedi gets the point across that certain people are stronger in the force than others. Not just anyone can be a Jedi. The Last Jedi goes against that, and is totally wrong. Rey being a Palpatine explains everything about how she is so strong with the force because Palpatine is the character in all of the Star Wars movies that is strongest in the force (arguable, but I think only Yoda or Mace Windu would have the argument to make).
Furthermore, the claim that Rey was a nobody was one line from Kylo, and Rey didn't believe him at the time, and neither did a lot of viewers.

Yes and it literally was just what Kylo believed because it was what he was told apparently by Palpatine (via Snoke) as part of his entire ruse - and Rey had no other information to go by either so even probing hr brain would not give a different picture.

Meh...like every movie. But people want to exaggerate any issue/flaw because it's SW

I really liked it, and didn't notice or care about any of these complaints...like most viewers

Aside..... I have a quibble with the title......

I kept waiting for the moment of is this the RISE of Skywalker? For a second I though it was gonna be Ben rising out of the chasm he fell into and they did give us that image. But he falls in the end.

I get it that Rey chooses to identify as a Skywalker and she was groomed by Luke and Leia more than anyone else.

Would have preferred something else though. I'll never see her as a Skywalker. She is a Palpatine that chose the light side -they were all always capable of choosing a side.

ESB, TROJ, TFA, and even TLJ are all so literal. Even TPM, AotC and ROTS are very literal.

It's also the end of the Skywalker Saga as far as we know now so more of a setting then a rising.

Oh well........ just a quibble.

I have no other (better) suggestion really which means maybe it's as good as it could be. You can't have it be SW: the Empress Palpatine or She's a Palpatine of course. lol.

Ooooh... maybe SW: The Final Order

nah. oh well.... not gonna let it bug me much.

PS - quibble #2 - the pre movie crawl was absurdly stupid. I mean especially the opening line "The dead speak!!".....

I'm pleased with the movie despite its flaws, but this was a slight annoyance for me as well. Maybe they were referring to the rise of the Skywalker School for Gifted Youngsters that Rey will eventually be opening to train the next Jedi.

So current weekend box office projection for TROS is $185 mil (TFA opened at 247 and TLJ opened at 220). Global numbers down ~15% vs TLJ. CinemaScore survey gave the movie a B+ (quite bad for a blockbuster). Thoughts on the box office struggle? Is it due to TLJ or just a meh movie in general?
