How did you miss Nux's character arc? His transformation from brainwashed, loyal War Boy to helping Max and Furiosa was an integral part of the plot.

a hot redhead will do that

Fun fact: that was Elvis Presley's granddaughter (Riley Keough).

Damn. I like Tom Hardy a ton and he did really well... but that would've been awesome.
wow, he died in 2008. didn't know they were talking about this that long ago...

I heard Miller wanted another one with Gibson in the late 90's as well.
Someone posted it here or I recently read Miller pitched this in 1997.

I think Ledger was quite good. He may have received the Cobain/James Dean bump because he died young and even more so because it was during his iconic role... but for 28 years old he had accomplished quite a lot.

I suppose you may think his role as the Joker was a little overrated because he died, but I don't know how you could think that it was anything short of amazing. That is maybe the best villain I've ever seen on screen. The guy was absolutely haunting.

I think he would've nailed the quiet, stoic loner required for Mad Max, but I also just think it would've been cool because he's Australian.

His acting as the Joker was not overrated and he showed amazing talent in that role. I do think people overrate his career and nobody really knows how good he could have become. But when Daniel Day Lewis is inspired by your performance, then you're pretty damn good.

I think he just got good roles. Not that he was a bad actor, but he was a good looking dude with good roles.

So I went and saw it again yesterday. And I enjoyed it again.

Also, here's some B-roll from it. Nothing shattering, but still interesting to see how some of it was filmed.

Agreed about Heath being amazing as the Joker.

It's hard to believe we got two of the best villains of all time, one right after the other. Joker in 08, Hans Landa in 09.

Never thought about that. Pretty impressive. All won the Oscar too.

Literally my only complaint w/ this movie (and it's a very shallow and petty one) is Tom Hardy's voice. He's still doing the scratchy old man thing. It sounds forced and unnatural. If there is some health problem Tom is struggling with, I apologize.

i.e. instead of "put that over there", he'd say something like "pooot that over therrre" in a Jimmy-Stewart-with-moderate-laryngitis voice.

Only miscast in the whole movie imo. But it didn't take away much since this one is not dialogue driven. Hopefully he learns to talk again for the sequel.

You're not the only one, I agree... He's such a good actor, I don't really understand why he can't just talk normal in his roles. It was definitely over the top in this.

I disagree.

And, he's fine. In his interviews (even for Mad Max) his voice is normal. In alot of his movies it's normal although he's very good at accents. He's done very good Boston, American, Irish, English, Scottish, etc. in a lot of his movie and tv roles.

I've seen this voice in variations as Bane, Forest (Lawless) and Max. It was fitting in all, but his other roles he doesn't have it. I don't think it was over the top as all. Also, Max really didn't talk all that much. He's a morose guy, it fit for me.

I almost wonder if his voice/accent has permanently changed as a result of his role as Bane in DKR? "Pooosh that botton right theeeeeyerrrr"

no. it's completely normal in interviews. I've posted a few on here if you want to see. He has a higher voice than you'd think, actually.

Ah ok, well not sure why he's adopting a really weird and awkwardly distorted voice for movies like Mad Max? If I thought he was super hot I'd probably let it slide too.

He certainly can look hot at times and others not. I personally thought he was a very hot Max.

Go watch Peaky Blinders or The Drop. He's starting to do this weird Bane-gravel hybrid in all his roles. And it's not a complaint, it's just an observance... It's a little over the top to me.

Text I got from a buddy on Sunday:

"Mad Max was a blast. I still don't think I've seen Tom Hardy talk normal in a movie except for Warrior"

I kind of like his cadence. Take Locke for example. It was kind of mesmerizing. It really made the movie.

I agree with that. He sounded like a really polite Bond villain.

I have noticed he'll make this little grunt sound in various roles. maybe he's doing these things subconciously, but I've seen parts of The Drop and Peaky Blinders and I don't hear the gravely stuff as much as ya'll do. But, it's been a while, so I could be wrong.

cool beans.

Miller also revealed in a recent podcast with Jeff Goldsmith that the fifth film in the franchise will be titled "Mad Max: The Wasteland."

Tom Hardy said in an interview last month that he's attached to star in three more "Mad Max" films.

I saw this movie today. It was definitely worth the entry fee to see on the big screen. Constant action and channeled the other three movies well...almost too well. The campiness and quirky acting by the supporting actors was a little over the top and could have been left out but then it wouldn't have been a Mad Max movie.

I thought Tom Hardy tried too hard to be Mel Gibson instead of just being Tom Hardy. Charlize Theron is Charlize Theron...grrrrrr...

IMO, it was a solid 8 out of 10. I was pleased but not blown away

Took a date to see this tonight. Within the first half hour, she turned to me no less than 5 times and said "what the **** did you bring me to?". By the 1.5 hour mark, she said "this is so awesome".

I loved it from start to finish. So bizarre and rowdy and out of control.

For those saying max wasn't a great character and furiosa stole the show, this was 100% by design. It's getting the movie a lot of extra publicity, positive and negative, and was a brilliant writing and marketing strategy. And didn't bother me one bit. Charlize was perfect for it.

Great stuff

Saw this last night and loved it.

Also, but people probably already pointed this out in this thread, but the guy that played Immortal Joe is the same actor that played the head biker in the original Mad Max. I just found it interesting
