The Road Warrior Blu-Ray is on sale at Best Buy this week for $7.99. Yesterday, they sent me a $5 coupon in an email.

Guess what I'll be using that on?

The embargo has lifted, reviews just hit, and MULTIPLE critics I respect are all using the word "masterpiece." Friday can't get here soon enough...

Is it normall to have an embargo when the reviews are good?

looks pretty good but seems like there are too many guns vs the original road warrior.

I remember Humongous having a revolver with very little ammo and Max having a sawed off....all the other weapons were simpler (cross bow using compressed air), Malatov cocktails, flame thrower and razor sharp boomerang.

Sometimes, yeah. It's all about timing. Studios have a planned rollout for when they want certain TV spots to hit, reviews to hit, etc. It's a strategy of some sort.

Bought my tickets today. The embargo lifted yesterday, and quite simply people are saying best movie of the year and a masterpiece.

That much more excited now

anyone heard if it's better to see this in 2D, or is the 3D worth it?

My son and I have been looking forward to this when it was suggested long ago that Heath Ledger was going to somehow reboot the series.

I suspect the studios are furious Miller said see it in 2D.

So with an overall rating of 98% on rotten tomatoes after 40 total reviews, I think it is safe to say this movie is going to kick ass. Can't wait for this weekend.

Don't think this has been discussed here...

Same actor

Just thought I'd add to the discussion.

1. I hated Thunderdome. It was so bad. Mad Max was not as bad, but not a movie I cared about ever seeing again. That said, Road Warrior is one of the best action movies ever made. Every shot, every look, every word serves a purpose. For those new to Mad Max, Road Warrior is the only movie you must see if you want to see the old Max before the new one.

2. How anyoune could watch these trailers and not want to see the movie is beyond me.

You know Mel Gibson only had 16 lines of dialogue in Road Warrior.

First Narrative:
My life fades. The vision dims. All that remains are memories. I remember a time of chaos... ruined dreams... this wasted land. But most of all, I remember The Road Warrior. The man we called "Max." To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time... when the world was powered by the black fuel... and the desert sprouted great cities of pipe and steel. Gone now... swept away. For reasons long forgotten, two mighty warrior tribes went to war, and touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Without fuel they were nothing. They'd built a house of straw. The thundering machines sputtered and stopped. Their leaders talked and talked and talked. But nothing could stem the avalanche. Their world crumbled. The cities exploded. A whirlwind of looting, a firestorm of fear. Men began to feed on men. On the roads it was a white line nightmare. Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice. And in this maelstrom of decay, ordinary men were battered and smashed... men like Max... the warrior Max. In the roar of an engine, he lost everything... and became a shell of a man... a burnt-out, desolate man, a man haunted by the demons of his past, a man who wandered out into the wasteland. And it was here, in this blighted place, that he learned to live again.

Last Narrative:
And so began the journey north to safety, to our place in the sun. Among us we found a new leader - the man who came from the sky... the Gyro-Captain. And just as Pappagallo had planned, we traveled far beyond the reach of men on machines. The juice, the precious juice, was hidden in the vehicles. [camera on Feral Kid] Narrator: As for me, I grew to manhood, and in the fullness of time, I became the leader... the Chief of the Great Northern Tribe. [camera on Max, pulling away from him] Narrator: And the Road Warrior? That was the last we ever saw of him. He lives now... only in my memories.

I've only seen Mad Max (unimpressed), and that was a few weeks ago. I just got hold of Road Warrior and Thunderdome from a friend and will watch them first, though.

Mad Max cost $200k to make and for a while was the most profitable movie ever made (%wise), but yeah, it hasn't aged really well.
