I went back and watched the SDCC teaser from a few months ago and saw that they had done a lot of work with this scene:



The original had just the tanker truck blowing up (in a flat desert landscape). Now, they've added in the rest of the vehicles an added in the mountains. This makes sense, though; the logistics of everything going on in that shot (to say nothing about the safety factor) requires some post-production magic.

I think that everything that could possibly be done with stunt people and vehicular mayhem for real was done on camera and the CG was kept to a minimum.

I hope you guys are right. I feel that the Mad Max universe is strong enough that it doesn't need to be elaborate. I don't watch trailers, so I'll see you boys at the cinema.

CG works well with regard to landscapes and architecture and moving objects at a distance

and even then, you have to show restraint

Star Wars prequels is the gold standard of how not to use CG

I cannot put into words how beautiful and amazing that trailer is. I seriously cannot think of a single movie trailer that gave me goosebumps as much as that did. This ranks up there with the Phantom Menace and first SpiderMan movie trailers in it's "I can't believe this is really happening" feeling.

When The Road Warrior first came on cable around '82, I was about the same age as my oldest son is now. I have decided that he and I will watch The Road Warrior and then I will take him to see his first rated R movie on May 15th.

And I will be the most awesome father ever....

Yeah, I doubt I'll see this one. It looks TOO awesome, like over the top. Plus, it comes out the same weekend as Pitch Perfect 2. Maybe I'll catch it at the dollar show, or grab a copy on VHS from the discount bin next year.

Saw Mad Max for the first time a while back, to prepare for this movie, and thought it was pretty terrible. Should I watch Road Warrior and Thunderdome, or just pick it up at Fury Road? Hardy isn't playing Max, right?

There is a big shift from the first Mad Max to the second.

In Mad Max, society is on the downward slope towards anarchy and lawlessness due to an energy crisis (which was the big doomsday thing in those days), and in the Road Warrior, society has completely gone to hell and now the landscape is a nightmare.

You need to at least see The Road Warrior.

Anyone know where I can watch the original Mad Max? It isn't on Netflix or Hulu plus ir Amazon Prime as far as I can tell. Only option to rent it?

Yeah, best I can tell you can rent it on Amazon for a few bucks (depending on HD or SD).

The original was the beginning of the decent to "MAD-NESS". Society is failing. Max tries to hold on, but the death of his wife and child pushes him over the edge to vigilantly, thereby making him on of the hordes. With some of his former self intact, which he tries to hold onto as everything erodes to hell on earth.

I would have preferred if the second would have been closer to the society of the first and the decent of civilization would have played out a little slower with a deeper story.

They came dangerously close to ****ing it up like highlander.
