It IS a big deal to the players and coaches. Carson has to be replaced. By Daria or Lex? If both, the second will replace one of the five returning from last Spring's awesome tourney team.

Regardless, except for Mary if she is not there, hopefully the whole team will be there. A lot of tennis last Fall but individuals, a few at a time, will be great to get the first look of the new season of the players, all in one tourney. In a great location, too.

So we have more than double the amount of first place votes than Georgia and more than everyone combined, yet still somehow end up behind them. Sounds like a few select salty voters ranking us really low which is pathetic

to be fair, georgia is very good this year, too. will be very tough to beat them. we will need to win the doubles point imo.

This morning I noticed that our last non-conference match is Pepperdine, at home. Thought it would be a great test before conference. Now see their #10 ranking and know it will be. SEC starts with the sips at their place.

Georgia is at our place, too. Something to look forward to all year!

I can't wrap my head around being #2 with so many more first place votes, but on paper Georgia should be #1. They are stacked. Clear favorites at doubles and 5 and 6 against us.

We can beat them but will be tough.

Article mentions that Mary will be with the team, but someone earlier mentioned that she would not be with the team in Hawaii. Later it shows that Mia is playing doubles with Daria. Playing a ranked USC without Mary isn't ideal.

I don't think it's a normal team match format, based on the press release and how they listed the matches.

Anchorhold mentioned here very recently that Mary and Carson will be playing in a pro tournament so Mary will not be with the team.

The article DOES imply that Mary will play but she is not listed on any of the matchups. The author may have simply meant that she will be leading the team this season.

Didn't Mary normally team with Mia in doubles last Spring? The article has Mia teamed with Daria today. Daria has been mentioned in this thread several times as having a really good Fall and amateur me thinks she has a really good chance to replace Carson in the lineup (what line, not sure!). Gosh, they might do really well together!

Obviously, when Mary returns the doubles pairings will change AND this is the first tourney of the season and the coaches are just 'having a look' to see how each pair play together.

I note that Nicole and Jeanette are paired together. I think that was common last Spring. Also interesting to see Lulu and Lex paired. I would like to see Nicole and Lex paired as a test. Might well see it in later tournaments.

Regardless, I do not do any of the 'social media' stuff so if the results pop up on any of them would someone who does get them post them here? I am hoping there will be a press release after each day's results but not holding my breath on that. Thanks!

Nicole and Jeanette were SOLID last year at line 3 doubles. I can't imagine he will split up Mary and Mia long term and I imagine that Daria is a fill in for that spot. Lu is a REALLY good doubles player, so she's in the lineup for sure. It will be interesting to see who he pairs with her for the season.

With Carson gone, I do believe Daria will be in the lineup at 5 or 6 singles. Just my guess.

I thought Daria was going to surge her sophomore year. She got in a slump early and never recovered.

Hopefully she feels less pressure this year and can play to her talent. It's tough to follow our top 4.

For example, against Georgia playing GG at #5 is tough. She was basically unbeatable there - except vs. LuLu!

Apparently there were supposed to be more teams at Hawaii invite, but 2 dropped last minute. Therefore we do not have the matchups we thought we would have. None of these matches will go towards team record, only individual matches.

Did USC not show up?

The press release is worded weirdly. Mary "leads the Aggies into battle". But then following that she isn't listed in any in the matches.

Unless something changed in the 2 days before they left for Hawaii, Mary is about to start play in a pro tourney and isn't in Hawaii.

Perhaps someone can confirm.

I see it as a significant part that Lulu and Lexington are paired together. We've seen and like what nicole and jeanette bring at 3. But I think Mark is getting matches with alex and Lulu together when it doesn't effect the team score. I like this move and it makes a lot of sense to me on paper. Let's see if it works on court though.

These departures are a massive blow to Stanford’s hopes of winning a NCAA title. Add in injury concerns about Yepifanova and Hui — it could be a rough season for the Cardinal.

Especially considering it is a W35 tourney. Mary had some physical troubles the end of Fall (right shoulder, I think it was), hope it is not still bothering her.

Miami would be nothing without Noel. She faced the truth that her level of game and play style isn't good enough at the pros. so she comes back and gets paid. smart by her because i doubt she has a sustainable pro career. I just hope she doesn't get a spot at the is open wildcard playoff now. I hope the USTA saw how she got steamrolled and doesn't even give her a shot at the wildcard this time.

The stanford news is interesting. Glozman and Ma are able to compete with any 1/2 combo in the country. I saw Glozman 1st hand at NCAAs this fall. she's the real deal. However, as the tweet states stanford cannot compete with the best if they do not have depth and blokina provided depth and experience. I think stanford finishes 4th in the ACC now behind UNC, UVA, and Duke.

It baffles me that two Stanford players are leaving eligibility on the table when none of the other programs with fall coaching changes (Pepperdine / Florida) seem to have noticeable changes in their rosters. When was the last time Stanford took a transfer? And befofe Eleana Yu over the summer, lost a player to transfer? It almost makes Ava flipping to follow Jordan national news.

I know changes can still happen. For instance, Friday, January 17th, 2025 is the last day for regular students to Add/Drop courses on our campus.
