Mary takes her 6-1, 6-1.

My amateur opinion - Mary played an efficient match. Made a lot of great shots, at least two aces that froze Lex.

Lex did not play as well as she has the last three matches but still made some great shots. Some great decisions on shot placement. And she stayed calm. I know she was frustrated but she barely showed it. I am impressed with the young lady. I thought she would win a few more games but was not to be.

She has practiced with Mary, seen her in tournaments, seen the trophy case and the rankings. She knew she had a tough hill to climb. But she will get better each tournament, each season and in a couple of years she will do the same to the new girl(s).

Aggie women's tennis rocks!

Good analysis. That match said more about Mary than Lexington.

Thanks for the pic! I do not use tweeter or fascistbook or any of those sites so often miss stuff sent out about Aggie sports - unless someone posts them to a thread!

She made a massive jump after winning Edmond and now this - good for her!

Mary vs talented 16-year old Iva Jovic

Girls are warming up now.

For those that don't know Iva. She's one of the top US juniors. I've seen her play live at the US Open. Crazy talented - she won first round and almost made the third round this year.

All that said, I'm picking Mary to win this!

Mary drops first set 2-6. Jovic was up 5-1. Other than on a first serve she did not hit the ball into the net until the 6th game. Then twice in the 7th game (Mary won) and once in the 8th game. I am very impressed. Mary lost a lot of points doing so.

Jovic is doing to Mary what Mary did to Lex yesterday. I have to say this young girl is very, very talented.

But Mary can come back!

Second set going to tiebreaker. Mary's got her right where she wants her.

This is excellent sportsing.

Mary gets the tiebreaker 8-6. Tied at one set each.

Mary wins the tiebreaker in the second set!

She is obviously playing better whilst Jovic is not being as perfect.

I noticed Mary was not doing her usual hopping and skipping until just before the 16th game and she has kept it up.

Most of the time she has not finished chances until the very end when she got better.

Only getting a point about a third of the time she goes to the net.

But I think she is warmed up now and ready to take the match!

Third set tiebreaker!!
frankie00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Darn it!

Lost the tiebreaker in the third set to lose the match. After she won the tiebreaker in the second I was pretty darn sure she would win the third set. But it did not happen. Double darn it.

2-6, 7-6, 6-7

Jovic clearly outplayed her in the first set. She really played well. Mature beyond her years.

The second and third sets were even but Mary had several games with 2 and 3 point leads that she could not close out and lost them. I think she won only two games that went to deuce. Maybe three. But not enough.

Not her best day but I definitely give credit to the young girl. She played well enough to beat one of the best college players in the country - and she is only 16-years old. I think she will make a very good living with her game!

I see the TCU Invitational is next Thursday. We will go there and win it!

I think she accepted her US Open prize money. She's 16 and top 250 WTA. I think she's top 100 by the time she'd be enrolling.

If she wins today, and Sonya Kenin keeps winning, then Jovic gets USTA's main draw wild card to the Australian Open.
frankie00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Iva Jovic defeated Jaimee Fourlis 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinal.

She lost to #1 seed Renata Zarazua 4-6, 2-6 in the final.

After Mary beat the #2 seed and looked so good vs Lex I thought she would get to the final and play Renata but would have trouble with her.

I was wrong about Mary but Renata did get to the final and won it all.

A question for you guys who know the program much better than I do - when will we know which girls go to TCU for the tournament starting this Thursday? Thanks!
Anchorhold
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Probably Thursday morning if TCU puts a draw or schedule online. Otherwise we will just have to search for results or watch the videos on PlaySight.

it'll be probably daria, liz, maybe avery and jennette. I could see lexington go, but she might also be saving other events on her fall schedule.
frankie00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Thanks! I think they might put out a press release the day before, since it is an NCAA event, with the list of players who will attend but thought I would ask. I'll check Wednesday and Thursday morning. I checked the PlaySight site and TCU uses them so can check them each morning of the tournament.

I think Avery is the only one I have not seen play so would be a treat if she makes the trip.

And Stanford 3 of the top 12. Pending significant roster movement, I'll be shocked if one of those four don't take the title.

Texas drops significantly if Joint goes pro, but that doesn't look promising.

Wow! What matches that is going to be. Looks at Texas has 3 in too 15 and that Herea from Romania played some good fall tennis.
I think our doubles will be better but there is going to be some don't miss tennis!

in other non ute news: Florida hires Pepperdine's head coach to fill their vacancy. This is a great hire by them and there really won't be a drop off in team results. Now what we needs to do is go get savannah broadus for the spring and win it all again. She's from dallas and can come back home and win a natty playing for the good guys.

I've watched Joint play several matches recently. She's good, but beatable. Playing style-wise; I think Mary matches up well with her.

Thanks for the links and info! I saw the AD press release earlier and have been waiting for 4:00 to roll around.

I checked PlaySight a few minutes ago and it showed no active tennis matches so Aggies/Baylor might be first up. Logged on to TexAgs to check this thread and found your post - thanks again!
