In my humble opinion, after today, I think Lexington stays in the lineup. She is consistent and solid and understands tennis and the court. She will lose some matches to more senior players, but she gives us a chance in every match at line 6.
Great focus and comeback by Mary on line 1. She likes to spot her opponents 5-1 leads it seems, and the accepts the challenge and just decides to steamroll them. I believe she won 12 games in a row. Mary did what Mary does.
Nicole played focused tennis when she needed to, but it wasn't her best match by far. Tbh, she looked bored. Lol. I love her game though and if you're a fan of no fear tennis, you're a fan of Nicole.
Mia - super solid; great serve, forehand and backhand popping. Lost her way a bit in the second but was never out of it. Really good win for her.
Lu - couldn't figure out how to stay on top of the backboard she played. These types of players are so frustrating to play against. Down 4-2 in the 3rd set super tiebreak, she just started putting a little more on the ball in a controlled manner to win 8 points in a row. I don't believe we've seen Lu's best tennis yet (not even close). She thrives in tight situations and gets better as the season progresses.
Daria - after a great weekend indoors, she was kind of all over the place today. At one point she had an overhead and instead hit a swinging forehand volley 10 feet over the baseline. She is a great rally ball practice player right now bc she can pound the middle of the court. She just wasn't consistent enough to have a chance today. If you watched her match, although she played a solid player, Harmon basically just waited for Daria to miss. I'd like to see her prepare for the ball earlier on both sides of the court. She's still messing with he racquet during her backswing. Too many variables in her groundstrokes.
Doubles looked good. Impressed with the pairings at lines 1 and 3. Line 2 is shaky currently. Almost came back after being down 5-2 though so we can take that as a positive.
Overall, good win. Must be better to beat Texas in Austin, and I have no doubts they will be.
