Also on another note... looking at the schedule for Nationals is is cool that we have high jump and triple jump as the last field events but also having discus that day hurts. Neither USC, LSU, nor Arkansas have discus throwers but Serena Brown would have been huge there for us and could possibly be the difference had she not transferred!

To lighten the mood, here is a clip of our recruit launching a monster PB in the javelin making her US #1 and the good thing is that her little sister is a sophomore and US #3! Possibly another Sister jav duo like the Malone's!! That means we have signed the Boys US #1 in discus and shot put and the girls #1 in javelin!

So what's the story here? What changed? What reason was given?

I'm a little shocked there were that many people on the team. Looking at the posted roster I see 71 men (for 12.6 scholarships) and 57 women (for 18 scholarships). And 6 coaches.

I'm far from a diehard fan here but I appreciate those that follow the sport so closely and help keep those like me informed. The only tidbit that comes to my mind was Henry's quote after the Texas Relays where he said there were too many individuals more concerned with themselves than the team and that was going to change (obviously paraphrased). It's always been my impression that Henry expects every participant to improve each day. With 6 coaches and 100+ athletes, yes, a lot of individual initiative is a must. So, when you go to a meet and you have repeated fouls, scratches and poor performances in events, there could have been questions raised about who has been putting in the work. If you're there, whether you're getting individual coaching or not, you now have access to good facilities with which to work and improve and you're expected to do so. I'm not in a position to point fingers or speculate (even though I'm doing just that) but that's the inference drawn from what I've read. I hate to hear about what sounds sort of like a purge, but I have to put some stock in the fact that no A&M coach, ever, has come close to winning the titles Henry has.

Good thing you weren't on the team in the 70s. You would really be butt-hurt. Facilities, compared to now, were 3rd world. Basically no track to run on with the bubbles on Kyle's red track. All runways were ancient, rock hard asphalt. Not everyone got nice stuff like shoes, etc then either.

That is very possible! Henry seemed very concerned and upset following the performance there and at the dual meet! Those comments he shared were striking especially since it seems only a few quotes get put into each article written by the track's media person in Tyler Pounds! I believe Henry was sending a message to his team! And for the large numbers it's crazy that there's only 6 coaches and 6 grad assistants to keep accountable all 150 or so memebers that were on the team especially during a covid season!

wow as a young fan I would love to learn more about this!! To run, jump, or throw back then, you must have had to really be in love with the sport of track and field! Interesting to see how modernized and technology invested the sport has become with softer runways and better shoes

My first work out here was in the fall of 71. The track and the runways were tartan and did have a few bubbles in it. Most schools still had cinder tracks and I thought it was an honor for me to just run on it. Coming from a small town and even though it had only two decks Kyle was like a cathedral to me. Nothing in comparison to the facilities we have today but I have no complaints. I ran on grass in high school so it was a huge improvement for me.

I wasn't on the track team at A&M, I was past the grass age, and I only experienced a few cinder tracks. But I did once win a high school varsity high jump competition over several more accomplished jumpers because I handled the apron better. It was uphill with potholes. Some guys are so pampered.

I had written a long post but deleted it. I'm not here to cause drama - I am just horrified by what Henry has done here and wanted others to know. If you want to believe he did this in order to win a championship, why did he wait until he had ruined the eligibility for these athletes? Why not make rational decisions in the off season and discuss maturely and rationally instead of waiting until two days before their opening home meet. These were not athletes who were poor performers or fouling out - they had relatives flying in/hotels booked and had it yanked away two days before the meet. Yet they were also expected to work at the meet they had just been pulled from like a good team member should No one deserves this. No championship is worth this.

Don't worry, you're feelings are reasonable! The coaches did not handle this in the most professional way and I feel for those athletes who just had everything taken away from them! If you are a team member or a relative of one, I wish you and/or your athlete well and hope God watches over you on your next endeavor! To me track and field is the most beautiful sport in the world and everyone deserves to do the sport they love! Hope all goes well! As a fan of this program I wish all the kids who've donned the maroon and white nothing but the best and I'll always cheer for them wherever they go just as I cheered for them here in Aggieland. Once an Aggie, always an Aggie!

I don't know why he did this or why it went down the way it did. I have to believe there was some reason other than just deciding to be really mean one day. If anyone has any perspective outside of what we've heard I would like to hear it. It just doesn't make sense that it was arbitrary without any basis.

That's awesome!! I posted so I can keep track and compare how they do at regionals and state! Hopefully they can go low 47 or even high 46! I'm really ecstatic with the pole vaulters, Murdock improved this season 7 inches, and hopefully he's not done! Abadie did that indoors and I haven't seen many of her meets outdoor results, but I think she can come in and score especially if she can keep improving! Wade looked strong in the 400 video she posted and ran alone the last 150 meters she can easily go 53 with competition!

According to Letsrun forum it is rumored that Petros Kyprianou is leaving University of Georgia and Anna Hall, Jasmine Moore and Titiana Marsh are in the transfer portal. It is also said that two of these athletes "does not wish to be contacted by other institutions ".which might mean they are following Petros wherever he is going.
These are very interesting developments if it is in fact true. Can anyone confirm if they are indeed in the transfer portal?

Wow that is interesting and huge! I'll look around the internet for clues but I did realize Anna Hall was competing in Oregon this weekend unattached in the USATF Grand Prix! Would be crazy, hopefully Moore doesn't transfer to Texas! That's more points for us without Moore and Hall competing this season if they are indeed transferring! News like that doesn't just come out of the blue, but according to articles it looks like Petros is upset with Georgia's administration and wants out

The best part of running on the old tracks was you were a lethal weapon. I think the old rule when I was a kid was spikes could be up to 1.0 inches for cinder tracks. The current rules are metric so 9mm (~0.35 inch) is the IAAF standard, but USATF allows 25mm (0.98 inch) spikes for non-synthetic surfaces.
