Yeah, our room for error is minuscule with only a handful of scoring options.

It was nice to see our girls have a fighting chance for indoors this season. Outdoors will be be fun.

Anywho, let's see if our 4x400 can get first and break another record.

I still love this team... they win this meet any other year. I'd put my money on them to win outdoors.
I am with you! I hope our relay team brings home a victory!

Yes so true and while some lost points for Arky others stepped up and scored points. A personal best and second in the 60m hurdles for example. That is not happening right now with our sprinters. Our sprinters and hurdlers must be more consistent and rise to the occasion

And Arkansas still has two national qualifying senior distance girls with outdoor eligibility who will come back to their team outdoors m, including All American Carina Viljoen

The fall probably got Gray points in the 3K.

That group was right behind her, definitely made a difference.

Those girls involved were all expected to score also. Arky ran their team tactics with Gregory setting an early then her and Izzo or Gray took up 2 lanes. Would have been nice to have someone break that up earlier.

Statistical oddity. Guess the last NCAA Championship meet when the men and women 200 meter winners were white. 1960's????

Don't forget BYU still has more girls coming back outdoors, along with many other top distance girls who did not do indoor track due to cross country nationals being next week! This will seriously hamper Arkansas and take lost of points away from them

Good effort by all our ladies.

With Arky getting 67 points, we weren't going to be able to win. We basically almost as well as wecoul.

Gig'em ladies.

Tyra Gittens would have finished 8th in the team scoring.

Why does Arkansas dominate the distance races?

Do we have a cross country team?

She's an incredible distance runner that transferred from Michigan State who's doing her masters here, I'm assuming she's redshirting this season since she'll still be in A&M next year. Hopefully she runs outdoors, but I have no clue.

Arkansas uses almost all their scholarship money on cross country. That's their top sport and prized sport. And when top high schoolers see all the success Arkansas has in distance events they all want to be there and train there. Their cross country team is nearly half Texas kids lol. Pat Henry prefers 400/800 stand out field eventers to distance runners, but we still have a nice men's squad. The women have had some good runs but weren't strong at all this past season.

She ran earlier during indoors. Don't know what's going on with her but she's mentioned being injured when she runs over 30-35 miles/wk and that's how she's gotten into triathlons - she'd like to make the Olympics in the triathlon.

Someone said that there is no way we could have scored 67 points to match Arkansas and I told them yes we could have scored 67 points. They wanted to know where the 11 additional points would have come from.
As coach Henry always denote that to do well everyone must do their best on the same day and while we did exceptional we had some opportunities that we lost through no fault of ourselves but other athletes stepped up.

Tyra Gittens was in second in the long jump and Claire Bryant of Florida passed Tyra on her last jump (6.70m to 6.68m). That a loss of 2 points.

Deborah Acquah was in first in triple for 5 rounds and lost the lead in the 6th and final round due to Usoro better 2nd jump. In hindsight maybe Deborah could have tried one of her 3 jumps she passed before the final jump. She had momentum at that stage and may have surpassed the 14.27m. However that was a great performance and taking nothing away from her. That another loss of two points.

Athing Mu because of lack of experience lose the the 400m to the USC athlete. Mu is an exceptional athletes and congrats to her on her accomplishments. She will only get better. That 49.5 4X400 anchor was just insane. That another 2 points loss gain.

Deborah Acquah had a foul jump that was 22 ft long that could have propelled her in the top 5 giving us an additional 4-5 points.

So that a potential of 10 or 11 additional points was clearly there but just didn't happen on the day. Also if one of our 200m runners had made the final it could have bring more points.
So my answer was yes we could have matched Arkansas but it just didn't happen for us.

Not taking anything away from the great team effort by the Aggie women and with the amount of qualifiers we had we did an exceptional job.

On to outdoors starting with Arizona next week and then Texas Relays the week after. The key is to don't hold back but to make your regional qualifying marks and times early so if injury and Covid comes into play we would have had many qualifiers for regionals schedule for College Station

Absolutely correct! also believe Lamar Distin could have scored in the high jump. If Zhane Smith got to compete at SEC's I think she could've qualified into the long jump finals here with a high 20, or low 21! We get Cinyamon Stevenson and Lajarvia Brown outdoors and both could have scored in the triple jump yesterday! We also get to see the debuts of Adriana Shockley in the 400 hurdles and Summer Thorpe in the 100 hurdles and both have a shot at getting to nationals in my opinion. What will absolutely hurt Arkansas is BYU, NAU, New Mexico, Stanford, Washington and other powerhouse distance programs getting back into the mix for outdoors after sitting out indoor track in preparation for cross country nationals. This will take many many points away from Arkansas, where we will only gain this outdoor season! I say the moneys on us to win outdoors!

Yeah forgot about as well and she is actually a 1.87m jumper

Hopefully she heals up, and we can possibly get points nationally from Deborah and Tyra in the long jump, Deborah, Cinyamon, and Lajarvia in the triple, Tyra and Lamara in the high jump. That's lots and lots of points in three jumping events!

We can count of the jumpers to give us big points.
For the outdoor season I would like to see some focus on the sprints and hurdles to add depth to our women's team.
jania Martin, Laila Owens and Julia Madubuike can all now focus on the 200m and possible 100m as well
Charokee Young, Tierra Robinson-Jones, Syaira Richardson and Jaevin Reed can focus on the 400m.
Zhane Smith on the 100m and long Jump and Immanuel Aliu on the 100m and 200m.
The 800m would be Athing Mu and Domique Mustin on the 800m
Lets hope the three 100m hurdlers can really step up this outdoor season, in Kaylah Robinson, Kennedy Smith and Summer Thorpe. All of them have low 13 seconds PB but must get under 13 seconds to potentially score

I know we are all a bit disappointed about finishing second to the pigs but really it is sort of ironic. In just about any other sport Aggies would be ecstatic with a second place national finish and have been celebrating it for weeks. The coach of that sport would likely get a nice pay raise and extension. As it is, 2nd nationally doesn't even get front page mention on the 12th Man athletic site. Better step it up Pat !!! (Big tongue in cheek for any of you who are about to rant about my last sentence !)

My response is that Track and Field don't get the coverage and kudos it deserves.
For me if you want to expand and get a sport more recognized you must make the sport accessible to everyone.
Why do you have to pay to read a Track and Field article or to watch a video of a race. Milesplit has virtually high jacked high school track and field. It seems like you have to pay to get information (articles, videos, live track meets) on Track and Field
I can go online and find information and videos and even watch live coverage of many other sports but not track and field. It seems like only when Olympics come around that track and field gets some coverage.
When the Track and field gurus start to make the sport accessible to viewers, then the sport will get more recognition.

This this this! I was a high school athlete and was unable to follow my rankings or competitors progress sometimes if I wasn't an Athletic.net plus member or Milesplit member. It's ridiculous. I couldn't even see my own competitions afterwards because I had to pay LOL! And now to follow the athletes I train and their competition I have to pay just to see where they rank.

The only bright side is ESPN is getting more coverage of races and I hope that trend continues to improve, and possibly with the Name Image and Likeness rule to come in effect soon more money will be thrown at collegiate track!
