We desperately need Katie Izzo to finish 3rd or worse
This could be good if they take it nice and easy and make it a 16 person race vs Izzo showing off her 13+ second PB than anyone else in the field

On a non-A&M related not what JuVaughn Harrison did for LSU is just ridiculous. I've never seen a HJ/LJ double, and those marks are nothing to scoff at.

5000 pace too slow for Izzo. Third or worse very possible.

McCorkle, the Arkie pole vaulter, finished 8th via misses. There are three women left.

Sam Whitmarsh Leads Tough 800m Field through 1:50.48 (TXMileSplit)

Some of the top 800m runners in the state went head to head today at the Generations Park Summer Crris Invitational.

Brazoswood senior and US No. 1 Sam Whitmarsh paced a strong second lap for the win over Summer Creek junior Darius Rainey. Rainey also turned in a sold second lap followed by Manvel senior Adam Mason and Fort Bend Marshall senior Davon Beckles.

With a fast lead lap and a 54 400m split through windy conditions, the backstretch was where the money had to be made.

Whitmarsh, the Texas A&M signee pulled away with a solid last 150m to take the win. The 1:50.48 winning time was his second consecutive week of running 1:50.x

Was Arkansas suppose to get any points in the 5000? If so, we just got a huge break as they got nothing. I thought their runner was ranked #1 in the starting line-up.

Katie Izzo has owned that event the past 2 years, was ranked 1st going in

You thought right. Her personal best was well ahead of the field.

I don't think Martin's getting through in the 200 with 23.52.

It's okay Arkansas had none qualify!

Arky doesn't qualify in the 200.

Neither we nor the Hogs qualified anyone for the 200m finals. Our ladies really weren't close to qualifying, unfortunately.

It looks like there maybe a DQ in the 200, but as long as it is only one, neither we nor Arky will benefit.

How many projected points have we lost so far today? Like 3?

Arkansas 10+?

Haven't paid very close attention but I think I can count 14 points Arky has lost today based on seedings going in.

We are currently in the lead with 26 points. Arky has 10. I know that lots of bad things can happen, but I don't think that the Hogs can make up that 16 point gap unless we have a disaster in the 400 or the 4x400.

Here's hoping.

Yeah I think they would have sealed the deal with 10 points from Izzo in the 5k that is going to hurt them! If we take care of business in 400 and can go 1-2 or 1-3, a win in the 4x400, and Deborah top 4 in the triple, I think this crown is ours! Arkansas had a girl qualify in the 60, 60 hurdles, 2 in the 400, 800, 3 in the mile, and have 4 girls running the 3k. If they keep placing 6th-8th and stay out of the medal stand I really like our chances. They have quantity but we have quality.

I think Arky has people in every event tomorrow except the TJ and 200.

I just went through all the events for tomorrow and ranking based on seed time (prelim performance or if no prelim then incoming seed) and A&M scores 62 vs Arky 61. No sweat. Not sure it's worth watching. We have it in the bag.

Yeah and their hurdle girl will not get second, their 400 girl is not gonna beat Mu, Young, or Diggs, and their 800 girl was in the fast 800 heat! The main races to watch out for will be the mile, 3k, obviously 4x400 but I think that's ours to lose, and Deborah in the triple jump

I have us down 4 doing the same thing but seeding the mile with SB since prelims times in a mile are kinda iffy. i you want to look at a really rough google sheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1N3CHmyI9ARaKzhsdXD4QPW1CHkDHbYbSXRwjzf15TDQ/edit#gid=2142005867

Either way its going to be close tomorrow and likely come down to the 4x4!

I think we each made a mistake.

I had a 2nd in the triple jump because that was the order listed, but it wasn't in distance order, so we are projected 4th instead of 2nd.

In the mile the 7th best time was an Arky girl but she did not qualify on time. She was in the fast heat.

I think the correct numbers are Arky 61 and A&M 59. So I guess I'll have to watch after all to see us pull it out.

Thanks for the spreadsheet, I got the 61-60 Arkansas score, but I just highly doubt Freeman is going to get second in the 60 hurdles, she wasn't affected by the girl falling like the other heat, and Effiong will not beat Diggs or our girls! We have way less room for error tomorrow! Izzo losing also has an impact on the morale of Arkansas' team! And the BYU girls looked strong and them and Kimelli will give Izzo a run for her money in the 3k! Gear expended a lot of energy running two miles, Thomson killed herself in the mile and couldn't even finish the 800. A lot of variables to consider tomorrow, but the margin of error for Arkansas is way to thin so I like our chances of coming out on top 60 to about 55ish

Arkansas has 13 opportunities to score tomorrow and we have 4 with the 16 point lead.

I've got us losing by 3 based on TJ and 3k seeds and prelim finishes. We need the hurdler and the 800 girl to fall off some and for the milers and 3k people to slide also. We got a huge gift in the 5K and DMR tonight. A 1-2 finish in the 400 and the 4x4 win is an absolute must for us to have any chance at all.

I hope I'm wrong but I'm not optimistic about Acquah in the TJ after today. There is no way I would've ever thought she wouldn't make the LJ final. I honestly thought she would win. I saw the Tech stumbles coming but definitely did not see that coming from Tara Davis or Claire Bryant. Those hurt.

Much love to Tyra Gittens. There's nothing to say that hasn't already been said. Beyond spectacular.

We have the two best female track & field athletes in the NCAA. Period. We need to get them some help.

Acquah had a huge foul over 22' so I know she has it in her, hopefully she gets her steps down and has confidence in them going into the triple jump, I think a high 43 should make the finals. Do you think Usoro struggles again in the triple and will that struggle be enough for a high 45 to win? A 4th place or even 3rd would be huge for us! I agree with your points and I think the mile and 3000 will be an important factor!

I'm hoping Mu gets the opportunity to double up and run both the 400 and 800 in the outdoor national championship. I know there has to be enough time to rest in between races but I feel like there have been other athletes who have run both in the past. Have they changed the order or timing of when events are run? She is such an incredible athlete. I understand why she didn't run both this weekend, but I hate that as the collegiate record holder, we didn't get to see her blow away the field again and get another 10 points for the Aggies.
taylorswift13

That would be amazing, but since the girls events are all on the same day at the championship level it makes it really difficult! Maybe outdoors throwing in the steeple and 10,000 will allow more rest before the relay, the 400 and 800 are a little close, and both require a prelim and finals, and outdoor the 4x400 is a prelim and finals as well, so that would require 6 races and 2 miles of running on one weekend! And I think running the 400, besides getting the record, was a team strategy. Arkansas had 4 girls in the 400 and having Mu in there hurts their chances of getting more in the final. Had Arkansas had 2-3 top 800 girls and Syaira qualify in the 400 it would be a certain Mu runs the 800
