Wow Jania Martin runs a .27 PR to run a 23.17 to win her heat... should be good to qualify for finals and earn a spot to nationals! A big confidence booster for her on the relay as well!

HUGE run for her. She'll also get the best lane in the 'slow' heat.

She'll be in lane 4 in the 2nd heat. They switched it like 4 or 5 yrs ago.
1st heat - 3,4,6,8
2nd heat - 1,2,5,7

As of through day 2 SEC championships with the updated descending order lists, my tentative tally
shows Arkansas with 71pts at nationals and A&M with 70. That's great drama if it would unfold that way
but as you can see from this weekend nothing is guaranteed. Either way get the popcorn.

My tallies were similar! What is beneficial to us is that the DMR is on day 2 of the championships!! And Arkansas has Maloney and Gear on that relay so that could hurt them, as well as, having to rest up Gear, Izzo, and Gregory and splitting them between the 3 distance events and the DMR! Our only other help besides us staying healthy and performing well is other distance runners cutting into Arkansas points! Hopefully Lamara and Syaira can stay in contention to qualify for nationals! And if Jania can stay in the top 8 hopefully she'll get a lane 5 or 6 draw in the national prelims!

Does anyone know what all the issues are that Pat Henry is upset about with athletes not being able to compete? The reports are very vague and don't give many details.

I'm am now wondering who else will join Jania Martin on A&M's long relay.
1) Jania, 2)Tierra, 3) ? ( Owens, Mustin, or Madabuike), Mu

Owens look like she's lost the blast out the blocks but still had some stamina finishing in the 200. She split 52 earlier this year before being setback. Don't know if she is back yet. Mustin split 54 earlier this year too and she ran more aggressive and improved yesterday; ( only 2 sec off her HS PR). She might be able to pop off with a descent split(IDK). Madabuike ran a 55 out the blocks earlier and her base training has been progressing but don't know where she is in training at this time. Over the next week and a half training will determine much. It will be a close race. I think Arky could pretty confidently go 3:28 low or even better even without Kethlin Campbell (she has not rounded out yet) but she probably won't be a facotor indoor but watch out for her outdoor as she will probably split 50 low or 49 high. I think Tierra Robinson-Jones is at a training level to match Syaira's split on the championship run(51 high) and maybe she improves on it. This is the x-factor for me. If she matches it or improves upon it slightly then we are really down to only have lost 1 leg. Mu, Jania, and Tierra could improve or hold serve and then we are looking for 1 individual to concede no more than a 2 sec differential decline from the record run to where I think we still could win but it will be a heck of a race and could go either way. We can't count out Flordia either as they looked very good. Talitha Diggs is beasting right now so their other legs could differentially improve also and make it a 3 way race. Even 4 if you count Alabama. Can't sleep on them as their sprinters will run great legs and they have sprint power for sure.

Coach Henry is always vague when it comes into the inner working of his program lol, but I think it's the contract tracing that's really hurting our team! Cause when one comes in contact with an infected person, they can wipe out an entire part of the team since they usually live together or always practice together! He seems very upset with this protocol since it wiped out 5 of our top female athletes! As well as a relay member on the men's side! Hopefully we can get through this hurdle and come out in full force in 2 weeks for nationals!

Thank you for filling me in. Yes, this covid tracing protocol is a bit ridiculous. Really sucks that it will determine the outcome of an SEC championship, too.

Yeah I'm thinking of a relay with Mu, Martin, Robinson-Jones, and Mustin can run well enough for a top 2 or three finish. The men's side irks me because we know Smith couldn't compete, and Lanier struggled yesterday after straining something 2 weeks ago in the 200! So we have Deadmon and Mpoke, and 2 runners that can make or break a good relay, Miller, Clay, Lanier, Zamzow this is where losing Jamal Walton really hurts us! Hopefully Syaira and Charokee are back for nationals and have been able to stay training because Jania looks ready for a low 52!

Haha, right!! We need them to help us lol! And Izzo who leads the nation in the 5000 didn't look that impressive yesterday they're using Gregory in the mile and 3000 and she's ranked 2nd in the 5000! It's going to be such an interesting meet to follow in two weeks! It will come down to every single race and each place will have a huge impact on the standings!

There was an article from a Caribbean contributor to Track and Field News that said Young was out due to contact tracing. I can't confirm that for her or Richardson but that is rumor. I know the SEC did testing the Thursday morning on all the teams which I found quite odd. In a Covid year you learn to roll with the punches. This one hurt.

Yikes testing day of is ridiculous! Not even in football did they do that, they tested 2 days before and if cleared were ready to play! They're going to be testing the same way at nationals, even up to the second day of competition, so I pray and hope our girls and guys will be okay and healthy!

The ole adage, "Divide and slumber" but Katie Izzo just didn't have the cape on yesterday. WW84 will be back. We need the BIG Conf to eat big indeed. However, in tracing since week 1 of the index Arkie's separation differential has dwindled considerably every weekly update: 300, 200, 100, 79, and after the conferences report tommorow it will be even closer. Who knows 50. They have alot more bullets to spare going into the National Meet and can spare more than we can. We had 4 or 5 girls who contribute 50% of our point production and that is hard to overcome.

Sean Clarke has a seasons best of 17'2.75 in the men's pole vault right now and is looking like his old self!! 4 vaulters remain. Sophomore Zach Davis tied his personal best of 16'6.75 to tie for 8th! Let's go Sean!

Sean Clarke misses at 17'5 and finishes in fourth! Jon Bishop led the mile for over 1000 meters before falling back and finishes 8th!

Yes they did testing and on Thursday some Aggies were positive so others couldn't compete because of contact tracing.
James Smith cannot compete because of a positive test to one of Aggies he has been in contact with. I hope it is not another 4x400 runner otherwise we will be further be depleted.
I assume same for Young and Richardson.
My question if you are already in Arkansas how do you get home if you have to isolate for 10 days. Can you travel under contact tracing Covid protocol?

Yikes... so much bad luck for out team this weekend! Hopefully Bryce Deadmon can take care of that with a huge win soon!
taylorswift13
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Bryce Deadmon runs a poor time for his standards of 45.86 to place 5th! Deadmon didn't push for the pole coming out of the 150 and that really hurt his race as he ran the entire second lap on the second lane!

That kick was impressive, he's been lacking that this year so it was great to see him do that! He currently has the 15th best time in the nation so I'm hoping he can hold on to that and qualify for nationals!

After a review, Lance Broome should place 6th in the men's 200 meter dash! Without a solid 4x400 we will most likely finish in 9th overall on the men's side

Our men's 4x400 team places 7th with a time of 3:07.84! This hurts when you've owned this event for so long but it was a good performance with 3 freshman on the team and Bryce Deadmon dropping a 44.5 split! Hopefully Mpoke, Smith, and Lanier are healthy in 2 weeks

Brandon Miller - 47.6
Bryce Deadmon - 44.5
Omajuwa Etiwe - 47.6
Allon Clay - 48

Our men place 9th out of 13 SEC teams! Outdoor will be crazy different with Devon Dixon, Carlton Orange, Dewitt Thomas, Carlton Orange, and the javelin guys

It should be enough to stay top 12, there were no faster times in the ACC championships but I'll keep an eye out on the big 12 later on today! I think we get in around the 8 or 9 spot! Although Syaira Richardson's 400 spot may be in jeopardy!

I agree that men's mile relay should be safe. It doesn't matter which heat you are in. Sometimes better to be in slower heat where you can run clean. Indoors has so many variables. It is really a different animal than outdoors.

Remember there may be scratches since some people might have top times in both 200 and 400 and decide to do only one event. Also 400 and 800, and 800 and 1 mile. Athing Mu might only do the 800m, so she will scratch the 400m so another person would get in.

There maybe also scratches due to covid 19, contact tracing and injuries, so all is not lost yet for those in 17th to 20th spot on descending order

If Mu anchors the relay it will be after an hours rest.
