that hurts a lot! Hopefully Lamara can keep her spot for nationals! And it's nice to see a men's DMR but we will find out tomorrow who the legs on that will be! Sad the girls didn't field one, but at least we won't be forcing our top girls to race another event! Hopefully Lamara and Deborah are healthy and good to go before nationals

Achane drew very well in 200. Aggies should be extremely pleased with lane draws. i believe no one got 3 in either the 200 or 400. Women had uphill battle for conference before COVID. Need to get girls through healthy and take shot at nationals.

Mpoke and Smith could not have run 400 if they were healthy because you had to qualify in top 24 to make conference meet. I don't know if they will do the same outdoors or not. Hopefully by then coaches will be able to bring who they wish to conference.

I asked because the thread title here didn't specify Aggies but I knew that's what this had turned into. Either way, didn't want to muddy this up.

To be honest, I am far more interested in The Ags and unfortunately this is the closest thing we have to a forum on Ag track. I would hate to see it diluted. As an aside, I don't understand not having a separate forum but at least Gabe is interviewing Pat Henry on a regular basis.

Tyra Gittens will compete in the Pentathlon beginning with the 60 meter hurdles tomorrow starting at 10:15! She is leading the event right now nationally but the #2 competitor is from Georgia named Anna Hall. And if Tyra has her best day, with some big Pr's the collegiate record could be hers! These two girls should be fighting neck and neck through the day for the SEC crown, which Tyra won last year!! It will be streamed on the SEC Network+ which can be seen on the ESPN App! Although I will keep us updated here on her event performances! Allyson Andres will be competing in the Pentathlon as well.

Josh Brown will compete in the weight throw at 1:45 and is ranked 9th in the conference but with a PR I expect him to score points and finish in the top 8!

The day will conclude at 2:15 with the men's Distance Medley Relay which is a combination of 4 races that begins with the 1200, a 400, a 800, then a 1600! Local College Station High standout Jon Bishop will anchor the relay, but I have zero indication on who will run along with him!

And as always, for those who cannot stream the event or that are stuck at work or school, you can follow live results on this link!

Tyra Gittens ran a good time of 8.36 enough for 1048 points to place her in fourth in the pentathlon standings so far. She came in favored for the hurdles with a PR of 8.28. Anna Hall of Georgia is ahead of her by two points, Tyra needs to distance herself in the upcoming high jump, long jump, and shot put to stay comfortably ahead of Hall who is a strong 800 runner! Allyson Andress ran a 9.31 and is in 15th!

The extra day this year is going to be really helpful for Tyra, getting to have the open high and long on separate days from the pent is almost not fair for her competitors lol

Tyra Gittens and Anna Hall of Georgia both jump 6'2.25 in the high jump. Tyra Gittens is currently in second, two points behind Hall. this is not an ideal start to the pentathlon as Hall has PR'd twice already. Tyra will need to go off in the shot put and log jump to control the pentathlon! Allyson Andress clears 5'6 to move into the 13th!

She has a possibility for three golds, given Acquah won't be long jumping! let's hope she finishes the pentathlon strong and healthy!!

Tyra Gittens loses to Ana Hall in the shot put, by a quarter of an inch falling behind her by a total of 3 points to remain in second! Tyra fouled two throws. The only events left are long jump, and the 800. Tyra will need to beat Hall by more than 2 feet in the high jump to have a shot at the the title, given Hall's 800 time is 23 seconds faster! Tyra is a competitor so I expect a big time long jump competition from her to retake her lead! Allyson Andress has trouble with fouls as well but moved up to 12th in the standings, 97 points behind 8th!

Is that the Hall from the Colorado track club that competed at the A&M HS Invite from a few years ago?

I'm not sure about that meet, but she is from Colorado and had a decorated high school career, and hold high school records for both the indoor pentathlon and outdoor heptathlon

Bad news... Tyra Gittens has her worst showing in the long jump and only jumps 13'6 to place last! She had a rough takeoff and bombed the first jump, fouled the second, and had no control on her third. She falls to 6th and will hopefully stay in contention to place after the 800! She looked visibly disappointed and frustrated after the event! Sad to see her lose the competition like that but if we know Tyra, she will bounce back and possibly look to medal in two events this weekend, possibly two golds!

Our men's Distance Medley Relay places 5th! I couldn't tell from the screen but it looked like Gavin Hoffpauir led off, handed to Coby Zamzow, then a surprise in the 800 but it looked Moitalel Mpoke ran the 800, and Jon Bishop anchored!

Hoffpauir 3:01
Zamzow 48.55
Mpoke 1:49.7
Bishop 4:01.81

I thought Gittens might not run the 800 to rest for her other events. But she got 6th in the pentathlon for 3 points.

It was as Gavin Hoffpauir as the leadoff

Maybe I dont follow the sport close enough but I was surprised that Arkansas did not win the women's distance relay. They have had alot of success in cross country and thought it would translate to this relay.
Z3phyr

They could have won it if they wanted to, put in their 6th and 8th best milers as their 1600 and 1200. Look to be saving top girls for open events

it will be her and Anna Hall competing for the national championship in the pentathlon! Tyra just had a rough start, which led to a rough day, after she's been dominating every event and every meet this year! She will bounce back and I'd put my money on her to win nationals in the pentathlon!

Tyra had a really bad miscalculation of her mark and Coach Henry said he hopes she learns from that mistake and also you cannot rely on other people to do anything for you in this kind of situation. For her to really jump only 4 meters it has to be a serious miscalculation. She can redeem herself though in the high jump and long jump

Yeah her first jump was nowhere near the board, really puzzled me, and must've thrown her off completely! Looks like she abandoned her set step pattern on her second jump that went way beyond 20 feet but hard not to scratch when readjusting your marks!! Crazy to see, but I expect a redemption day for her tomorrow!

Here she is clearly already taking off WAY before the board, it's where the guy on the left is! Absolutely mind-blowing!! Hope she learns from it and can go 21+ plus tomorrow
Z3phyr

Dang! Rough measurements based of where she looks like she took off from and her height, probably a 21 foot jump right there

Is this the meet that Henry said on TA the women could win and the men finish in the middle of the pack?

With injuries always being an important wildcard, the large size of the team and many personal issues that arise therefrom, and now Covid cancelling athletes form participating, it seems that predictions are not meaningful.

I think coach Henry has the most complicated coaching job on campus. Good luck to him and to all the team members.

Yeah the women have always had a good shot at winning, but have 3 girls who are out due to Covid protocol! One of them is a jumper Deborah Acquah who is ranked 2nd and 4th nationally in the long jump and triple jump, Lamar Distin, who is ranked 6th nationally in the high jump, and Zhane Smith whos is ranked in the top 20 nationally in the 60 meter dash and long jump, so that really hurts our team when you have all those girls out. And for the men's side, we have been plagued with injury and are a very young team indoors. A lot of our scholarship money is going to seniors who are 5th year seniors coming back thanks to an extra year of eligibility due to Covid! Including All Americans Devon Dixon, Carlton Orange, and Dewitt Thomas. Excellent sprinter Jace Comick, as well as three great javelin throwers William Peterson, Nick Mirabelli, and Sam Hankins and getting others back from injury! Covid and injuries got the best of us right now, but the women should be favorites to win nationals in 2 weeks, and come outdoor season our men's and women's team will be in the mix for winning national titles as well!

A fantastic start to day 2 in the men's high jump! Mason Corbin ties for 3rd and Jake Lamberth places 6th with clearances of 6'9.75, and Carter Bajoit places 7th with a height of 6'8! Scoring 10 points for the men's team! Up next is Darius Clark in the men's long jump at 1:45 and Jon Bishop and Gavin Hoffpauir in the mile at 2!

Me too I'm really rooting for that!! Sulliman likes to take it out fast and not many are doubling up so I'm hoping for a fast mile! Unless the Ole Miss trio run strategically like they did in the prelim, and based on the second heat Kemboi of Arkansas and the LSU guy were taking it really slow

I think James Smith is out of the 4x400 relay as of today because of contact tracing due to another Aggie track athlete testing positive for Covid. This team is going through so much right now but they will have to continue to fight
