Yeah I was glad to see Lamar Distin get a Mark that could potentially get her into NCAA's, and after today I assumed it was an injury bothering her and stopping her from high jumping over 6 this year! But glad to see her go 5'11 given the circumstances, maybe 2 weeks of rest and recovery will benefit her! The triple jump is not as strong and a 43 could get us points at nationals! Syaira seemed so pump during and after that 4x400 and it seems she was losing confidence with her slow start to the season, but we can potentially go 1-2 in the 400 if she runs like that! Our sprints are going to need some help if we want to shave off points from Arkansas cause they will get theirs in the distance, mid distance, and pole vault!

On the men's side it was nice to see Allon Clay improve, I keep hoping his outdoor times will translate and we may be close! The distance crew looked good but the SEC is stacked there! I hope Jake Lanier isn't too hurt, he pulled up but seemed to be walking fine afterwards! The men's team really needs to get healthy on the 400 side of things! Here's to hoping the two weeks off will help us before SEC's!

I didn't see it posted and I was catching up on last week's ATL meet, but Shamier Little dropped a fast 400m last weekend.

Coach Henry comments after the meet yesterday

He said they stopped Lamara Distin at that height because we just wanted her to get a competition, she'll be ready to jump at conference. That's great news

He also said Achane lost his balance twice in that race and he is no disappointed

Coaches Box
Head Coach Pat Henry
On the women's jump squad:
"We know that Tyra [Gittens] is going to compete and she is tough every time she gets out there. Lamara [Distin] has been sitting for us all season but she finally got to do some jumping today and she cleared 5-11.5. We stopped her at that height because we just wanted her to get a competition, she'll be ready to jump at conference. Deborah has been trying some new things but she had another good day and she is consistent. You never know though, she can jump 46-feet anytime because she is one of those athletes."

On Allon Clay:
"Allon [Clay] ran a personal best indoors and he hasn't ran indoors that many times before. I saw a lot out of him today and he is the highest ranked freshman in the country right now. Allon was in a good race and it made him get the best out of himself. He did a good job today. Him and Brandon [Miller] are doing a good job, they've both ran 1:48 this season."

On Devon Achane's debut:
"It was the first time for him to step on a college track and compete. I wasn't disappointed, you can't be completely ready to go as a 200m guy in as less of time he's been with us. The race he was in just happened to be the fastest race in the world this year. He lost his balance twice and if you lose your balance at all then you're out of these races."

On Jon Bishop:
"Jon [Bishop] in the mile was one of the best in Aggie history. He has gotten better the last two weeks. He's looking really good right now and has gained a lot of confidence in himself."

Here is a schedule to the meet! The running events should be live-streamed Friday and Saturday on either the SEC network or SEC+ but both can be streamed on the ESPN APP, I'll update this thread when we get more info!

Also despise how the women's high jump and long jump are an hour apart! Tyra will need at least a 6'1 or higher to win and with more competitors the event should last longer, so hopefully it doesn't bother her legs for long jump! We need a gold in high jump and another medal in long jump!

It's going to be a great weekend next week for our Aggies, let's just hope we're well rested and recovered! Our girls look to have a loaded squad, with Mu running the 800 and 4x400, Tyra going for a trifecta in the Pentathlon, Long Jump, and High Jump, in the 400 we'll have Charokee Young, Syaira Richardson, and Tierra Robinson Jones. Lamar Distin will be doing double duty in the High Jump and Triple Jump, and Zhane Smith in the 60 and the Long Jump. We need our field event girls and 400 girls to have their best day to compete with Arkansas. Arkansas has their distance girls spread out to get points in different events but that leaves room for other schools to take points from them! It's going tk be a two team show in the woman's between us and them.

Our men's team is young and very injured and as of right now James Smith and Mpoke our 400 runners are not entered into Flash Results so that is extremely concerning but Jake Lanier is registered so he should be healthy! Let's hope we can make up ground in the 400, 800, Pole Vault, and High Jump to make up for injuries!

I'll keep everyone posted with more info about individuals and where you can watch the meet during the week!

From poster Look Out Below on another thread the splits were
Jania Martin - 53.0
Syaira Richardson - 5.1.8
Charokee Young - 51.1
Athing Mu 50.2

Those are crazy splits! And I say we go faster...
Syaira was running with her leg to stay with her. Only on the last curve entry did she try to make a move but it was too late then. She can go faster and will; she just needs to step into assassin mode. Likewise, Charokee would've had a 50' split She safely stalked her leg until the 2nd to last curve. You will notice she accelerated the last 30 m off the curve in lane two which was easily the difference in 12 hundreths of a sec( a 50' split). You give her a lead or allow her to run umimpeded to her ability and she is another assassin. She runs aggressive and is not afraid. She has the stamina to run that way too. Jania did what coach said and got the best out of her leg; she might have run out a lil too hard as she did have the pole at the break in a 24.07. That is ridiculously fast( Jessica Beard fast and over 0.2 faster than Mu). She wasn't slowing because of being rusty but it was ONLY .6 '' off her PB 200 m. That was gutsy and she didn't slow much. She did not let the team down and her leg was the most violent and aggressive to me. I enjoyed Young's leg most as far as excitment but as far as pure Warrior, Jania did that for me. I would have rathered her go out too fast than to under-do-it. She will need that type of mentality and output at conference. Her adrenaline and two prep buildup will allow her to hit 52 high open split at conference. Mu is obviously exciting. It's too bad she may not have another opportunity to run an open 400 this indoor as I am sure she had the collegiate record within her also as a freshmen. I honestly feel she is just running comfortably. Though she has deceptive speed I think she has yet to go out as she can. If she takes assassin mode, I don't doubt the NCAA 800 record of Fray is going down. She will have competition at NCAAs to go out aggressively. I honestly feel from what I have seen she is a sub 2 min this indoor season. Her 400 should give her the confidence to know that not only can she do it but that also she can go out harder and no one can catch her. Some will run with her but none will have an easy job o catch or stay with her finish. She just deaccelearates less than most on her closings and maintains pretty darn good relaxed form. USC, Florida, and Arky will all push these girls and I expect both 4x400s (indoor and outdoor) to be broken again. I am looking at 3:25 low indoor and 3:22 outdoor. If we can get some sprinters to pull an Alexandria Anderson on the 4x400 outdoor (like Laila or Madabuike) watch out - they could do something really stupid cause those are two girls with sprinter speed but 400 stamina. More importantly, I feel better about our weight training these last two years as our sprinters don't look to bulked up and we are carrying healthier body mass indices to carry our speed.

Love this input!! Welcome to the board! I agree on the girls have yet to run their best race! Jania hadn't raced in a couple of weeks so after that run and the 200 before conference she'll run a smarter race and hopefully run a low 52. Syaira needed that split as she started the season slow but we know how she can shine under the bright lights! So I hope she can stay around the 51 range, Charokee was running smart, but I believe she can run a sub 51 split if she's the first leg, and Mu will split 49 if being pushed or an earlier leg! It'll be interesting to see if Henry goes with the same lineup or mixes it up, I for one would like Charokee or Syaira to lead off so we won't have to run the entire race out of lane 2! It's going to be an interesting and fun race!

Thanks! Glad to be aboard. I love your commentaries; you are well informed and you and Trini are great enthusiasts.

I like your lead off notion; avoiding running in lane 2 reduces alot of pressure and puts it on the other teams to get outside of their comfort. That actually might work. Jania, being a true sprinter, can get up and go on any leg. Putting The Indian Assassin on leg 1 would be a great idea because now we force other schools to run outside the entire race to pass thus squandering precious tenths on their part for each lap. Great insight.

Exactly!! I can't wait for next weekend! I'm not sure if we can keep up with Arkansas conference wise, but based on the athletes list on Flash Results they're really splitting their distance group and most likely have their top dogs in the DMR, so that should allow for other schools to take points away from them! The 400 will be key as it'll be Charokee and Syaira vs three of their top girls so that will be interesting to follow points wise! And if our jumps come to compete and dominate we should have a chance, let's hope Lamara is healthy to Triple Jump as a low 42 should be enough for points but a high 43 should get her in the top 5 range! It's gonna be fun to watch i just hope their distance girls put to damage to us!

Going into SEC championship this week, these are SEC rank of the women athletes who are entered so far in the meet.
These are the raw ranking and does not consider athletes not entered in some events eg Athing Mu ranked 1st in the 400m but not entered in the 400m.
Lots of potential points in the jump events and our athletes must be consistent in these jump events.
We need the sprinters and hurdlers to step up and improve on their rankings and score as much points as possible because we don't expect much or any points in 1 mile, 3000m and 5000m.
Arkansas has entered their full compliment of 27 athletes. We have only 18 athletes listed so far on the our championship roster.

60m
Zhane Smith - 6th
Immanuela Aliu - 9th
Rachel hall - 14th

200m

800m
Athing Mu - 1st
Dominque Mustin - 10th
Brooke Barrington - 25th

3000m

Here's a YouTube video created by a couple of our athletes including Athing Mu, Dominique Mustin, Brooke Barrington all 800 girls! They highlight the ins and outs of traveling to an away meet, how a meet looks through an athletes perspective, and how they were stuck in Fayetville due to bad weather.

Zhane Smith is out of the SEC championship this week due to Covid 19 contact tracing, She is our best 60m sprinter (7.33) and has been having big jumps in practice in the long jump

Not sure yet if anyone else did not make the trip because of Covid 19 protocols.

Also not sure who is part of the distance medley relay for both men and women and the 4x400m for men.

On the Texags Radio segment where Pat Henry was on, he said that both sides were hit with Covid really bad and how unfortunate it was... he seemed upset and disappointed! He did mention Jon Bishop was going to anchor the men's DMR, and he hinted at possible having to replace girls in the relay for what that is worth!

yes especially is Zhane Smith is out, it would make sense that both jumpers room together so both would fall under contract tracing :/ hopefully that's not the case but that though crept into my mind. He didn't mention Jania either, and said he might have to replace someone on the 4x400... why can't the SEC just upload the heat sheets already lol I've checked multiple times today and nothing lol
triniaggie

I agree listening to him and reading the official 12th man track and field article on the SEC championship there is no mention of Aquah or Distin which are both significant scoring potential. I agree also it might be Jania Martin to be replaced on the 4x400m. since Mu, Richardson and Young are in Arkansas.

I think the official heat sheet is only release after the SEC coaches meeting which takes place sometimes on the first morning of the meet. No sure if that still is the case.

You guys cool if I make this the "all things track" thread and not just Aggie track? I love following the sport globally and I tried this on the H&F board before but it never got much traction.

I wouldn't mind, but you can make a World or Global Track and Field Thread and I'd contribute and follow there as well! Especially with the Olympics coming up and lots of world meets coming!
