What if I told you Bruce Pearl (Auburn) and Bryce Drew had the same league record of 16-38 in their first three seasons?

4 tournaments in 5 years is solid at GCU, but like I said they're just supported at a much greater level than anyone else in that league. I could be proven wrong if he leaves and they don't maintain it, but I think a ton of coaches could win with the setup at GCU right now.

If we go that route I guess I'll live with it. There would be a ton of guys we'd have to miss on before I'd get to Bryce Drew though.

Re Beard, no thanks. It's not BAS talking, but you don't hire a great coach who's a Texas ex. Even if they fired him once over a non-bb related..... if he went crazy here like we want, sips would be on the horn and he'd go.

Pearl went 4-5-7, Drew went 10-6-0

If we cannot get an accomplished current head coach, then take a risk.

I struggle to convince myself Drew would be successful here, but in fairness to Drew, his brother was a great recruiter that sucked ass at coaching his first couple years a Baylor. For us olds that remember Baylor fans talking themselves into being the best 11 seed ever in the big 12 conference tournament.

I really hope that we had already reached out to some of the guys we really wanted and tried to get them to wait knowing that there was a good chance Buzz was leaving. If we haven't already contacted people prior to today, we are gonna get another coach that we don't want.

I will say, this search will be fascinating. I really have no idea where we're headed.

Baylor had a player murder another player and the coach was involved in a coverup of paying for one of the players' tuition in one of the most famous scandals in the history of college sports and the program got slapped so hard they couldn't even play non-conference games for a season. Scott Drew took over the worst situation a program could ever possibly be in.

Bryce Drew took over a Vandy program that was in the First Four the year before he got there.

I think Coach Cal's contract has a non-compete clause so he can't leave for another SEC school. I think all schools should include wording like that.

Beard is a winner a great coach. Maybe not a great guy, but neither was Sxhloss. If we want good guys the. See Buzz and our current baseball mess. Get a great coach and who cares if he went to or coached at Texas. They don't mind taking the women's and baseball coaches we had and look at what they are doing. Enough of the cult "do they get us" nice guy drive a Ford 150 back it in, Jesus is God and let's win, or be okay with being a average athletic program with superior resources that underachieves.

Imagine Bruce Pearl....that personality, who seems to have fully immersed himself in Auburn....if he came here (which isn't happening), and fully immersed himself with all of Texas A&M....holy smokes, that would be fun

We knew Schloss's lifestyle choices when we hired him from TCU. We've crossed that threshold.

We were talking with Vitello's rep during the CWS, so I suspect Trev's already been in contact with some folks.

It only works if they're also good coaches.

I think the internet fascination with "sleazy" coaches is weird. Like maybe if the timing works out and you don't think what they did is a big deal, then fine, but actively wanting to seek one out is weird. There's a lot of very good not sleazy coaches.

Him not "getting us" would be a good thing

Gonzaga hasn't won a national title and Florida Atlantic beat us last year, not this year. That Florida Atlantic team was good, this one sucked.

That said he's got potential, I wish he was a couple more years into his run there. Just one year of head coaching experience with not much to show for it is dicey.

Good Christian man, spent three years as head of basketball operations for Gonzaga when they won the NC.

7 or 8 years as Baylor asst when they won the NC. Promoted to Asst. Head Coach, then hired by F.A. after their coach went to Michigan this year.

Not sure the story of this season, but they started out great, beating some good programs (including Texas A&M) before middling.

There was quite a bit of talk in the coaching candidates thread about Jans, but not a ton in this one. If we're looking for another high floor guy, I think he's it. What is his ceiling, I don't really know at this point.

UCF had just a WEIRD season. They beat us. Lost to Kansas by 51 points at home, then lost by 4 to them at Allen Fieldhouse! Beat Texas Tech on the road, and 1 point loss to Houston, and then a 4 pt OT loss to Kansas again in the 12 tourney.

I would definitely consider Jans as a realistic target. Weird that nobody talks about him having "baggage"

I think we need basketball fans here. The board can be a bunch of smug "know-it-alls", but it's honestly gotten way better. More dialog and more conversation is desired by all but the "elitests". Hope you stick around.

Aren't three out of the four final four coaches sleazy? Pearl is a cheater. Sampson is a cheater and didn't the Florida coach do some inappropriate stuff.

baseball can do its part too. All that tournament travel money we were planning on spending this year.

Beard would be a home run hire. Certainly one of the best coaches in the country.
