Steve Lutz born and raised in San Antonio, Home of the Final 4. Coincidence?
Huggins just took the McNeese job.ThatGirl said:
Gonna throw out 2 names I haven't seen mentioned…Bob Huggins
Mike Boynton
Huggy Bear has baggage, but is a great coach and would be a fun hire.
Boynton got a raw deal with NCAA sanctions & penalties at Okie State. He's a great coach (currently an assistant at Michigan, I think) & a great guy. He would show up unannounced for Freshman move in day at the dorms to volunteer for check in or help haul stuff up stairs. Everyone loved him but he wasn't able to dig them out of the NCAA mess.

Surprised nobody's brought up Rick Stansbury yet.
The way some of yall talked about his role as an assistant under Kennedy, you'd have thought he was Coach K in waiting

Prepare to be disappointed. Trev is going to cost cut, unless donors give $$.

Having said that I fully expect him to hire a junior high b team basketball coach so he can say saved money

That's the school buyout to fire him, not the "hire him" buyout. USA Today needs to add that to their database actually.TexAgs23 said:According to Google, it looks like Beard's buyout would be $19M as of today. Is that right????Pichael Thompson said:

I can easily see us going off the rails and hiring Crean. Or Fran Frashilla. Or Pat Knight.
Not optimistic at all.
We've got to make sure it's not a Buzz or Kennedy type who can't recruit though.cs69ag said:

Get a younger winner from a lesser program or lower Division program! Above are 3 examples of guys
that have done great moving up to bigger programs!
He has improved the team he's coached every single year over the prior season's results. Two tournament appearances at TAMU-CC, tournament appearance at WKU and then improved OSU in year one from where they were before he arrived. He's still very early in his coaching career, but has put together a pretty impressive track record to go along with having worked under both Greg McDermott and Matt Painter.tamu1973 said:
Okie State was 7-13 in conference and got bounced after one game in the NIT. Why would we want Lutz?
We've hit on it before, but that is the real issue with the timing of all of this. Hodge, Pitino, Hodgson and others have all already taken new gigs at this point.bobinator said:
Yeah, the problem is almost all of those types of guys have already been hired this cycle.
I mean, maybe partially mitigated by Northwestern being the only Power 5 job worse than Nebraska.Ag1188 said:
I can't believe many Maryland fans wanted Chris Collins, of northwestern. Horrible records outside two 12-8 round 2 exits. Assuming that's the guy they meant.
Bryce Drew if Beard doesn't work outAg1188 said:We've got to make sure it's not a Buzz or Kennedy type who can't recruit though.cs69ag said:

He was just flat out bad at Vandy though. They got significantly worse each and every year he was there. His team's at GCU outside of '24 have also basically all been the exact same and they're far far ahead of their WAC competition from an NIL standpoint. I don't think he's done anything to prove he's a very good coach or done much to earn another shot at this level. I'd be really disappointed if he is the hire._lefraud_ said:
Drew has recruited top flight talent in the SEC...sure it looks a little different now, but I guess I'm hopeful that his time at Vandy was just a run of bad luck with injuries, inexperienced coaching. I'd give him another shot.
I guess I'm curious Hoiberg would at least recruit shooters, something A&M hasn't had in over a decade in seems.

McCasland is the best basketball coach in the land. Not only can he NOT be picked up for "reasonable coin", he is completely unavailable. Trust me.IamGroot said:
See if tceh's McCasland could bring some of his guys. Bet he could be picked up for reasonable coin.
