Goodman will have some source he trusts and thinks would have the knowledge. However the substance "Beard will be a primary target" is flimsy in terms of being certain on an outcome based on it.

This stuff, there's no telling where it comes from but its as entertaining as these boards to follow it.

That new A&M source who has been very good this whole time says one of his people has said the terms have all been agreed to and is calling it done.

Who knows what's real in these things but it was suggested that Trev had 3 other candidates in mind and big money boosters selected Beard as the primary target. Trev supposedly did their bidding because he didn't want to push back. Now, Beard is a very good coach and may be great here. But, if that "reporting" is true, this type of intervention is probably responsible for a lot of our colossal failures. Moreover, I thought Trev would have more backbone than this.

Beard. Think he has been top priority since well before the season ended.

That new source says his contacts inside Texas A&M say the deal was done an hour ago.

We aren’t saying “done” without confirmation from a source inside A&M directly or from the Beard camp but we are now more like 95/5 Beard to A&M.

So, Beard is from the Woodlands- very close to A&M.

One thing I don't see mentioned much is his three daughters, who I believe are now somewhere around 17-24 or so years. I presume they still live in Texas.

It might be a real pull (or at least a convenient explanation) as far as another reason to come back to Texas.
It's hard enough for a coach to spend time with family, without being out of state.

I'm gonna stick with Lutz as well, since thats the kind of pessimism I have for believing the initial rumors about our coaching searches (although most of the last few have been this straightforward except the baseball thing)

The whole point is that *right now* the rumor mill has it pegged at Beard, but no confirmation or real info. So do you believe it or have someone else?

This is just like the Jimbo announcement. No one believed it even as it was happening. It's Beard.

The fact that NOTHING else has surfaced makes me think we're trying to figure it out with Beard.

I'm in favor of hiring Beard. What I wouldn't be in favor of is if we're doing something dumb like 8 years / $7M per. Not worth it to lock ourselves into that. That's been one of our problems (among numerous). We either go for a bleh budget hire, or we ridiculously overpay for a splash hire. I don't care about the overpayment itself - I'm not the one paying. I care that we (BMAs) get head over heels about a coach and lock us into stupid contracts.

6 years 6.5 per is my total guess if there ends up being some kind of agreement.

I don't think Beard would be like a Jimbo situation. Beard is still very much at the top of his game.

Dang I have to permaban myself just for being (potentially) wrong now? Even though literally dozens of other people are also on here saying we'd never go after Beard because of his history and/or his contract?
