He came in super late in the cycle and had to pull scraps out of the portal to fill a depleted roster. Still managed to get a great run in the NIT and the team looked VASTLY improved from a year ago. He needs decent NIL backing and he'll be making runs in the tournament in no time.

Do we know if Huss is even interested?

What are the thoughts on hiring Jerome Tang? He has Texas ties and although he flopped last year. I feel like he could create a really good culture. It would be a step up for him but maybe you can work less money in that deal and save more for NIL (I know what happened last season at Kstate)

It does feel odd (maybe terrible) that it seems we are being rejected left and right by all the decent P4/P5 coaches, Mack and Lutz the latest ones, and that we are going for rookie head coaches in mid-majors like Huss and McMillan.

I understand we have basically no team and we are a bit late to the coaching carousel but I would have expected to at least being able to get interest from more proven coaches.

Choosing between Huss and McMillan feels pretty underwhelming. If those were the only two options, then I would go with Huss due to his much better coaching background and overall success. However, can they put together an SEC roster in less than three weeks? I am not sure. It feels like what LSU did by bringing McMahon from Murray State, but at least he had consistent success for six years, but so far, he has not been able to get things going at that place.

If we are going to go after guys like McMillan and Huss, we might as well try something more "splashy" in terms of name recognition/brand, such as Luke Murray (Uconn).

I am not feeling very confident about the hire tbh.

It's a shot in the dark either way. Will either pull this thread up in a two years saying it was the beginning of something great, or we will be laughing at how close we were to getting Beard.

I thought about Tang on my early list but I dunno. One could we even get him, but two, last two years have not been impressive considering what they're supposedly working with.

Is there any reason why Porter Moses's name keeps being floated? He is a nice guy and was able to recruit some good players to OU, but so far, his journey over there has been quite disappointing. He has been 25-45 in SEC conference play in four years. His current recruiting class is #27, and last year, it was #48. He was better known for his two NCAA runs with Loyola but nothing else.

Why are we even considering him?

I could be wrong but its my understanding the large buyout number bandied about is if OSU wants to fire him.

He just made a post on Instagram, pretty much letting people know he is staying at OSU.

I hope that is the case but it seems that he is one of the few names left from P4/P5.

He is the ok state coach until he's not. Plus, that post has been made multiple times on his instagram feed.

I hope you are right. I think Lutz might be a better option than Hus or Mcmillan. Less of a gamble IMO.

I think about the "what ifs" a lot when we do a coaching search. You can dig up anything from the archives (what if we'd hired Urban Meyer away from Bowling Green instead of Fran from Alabama?) and it's always a crapshoot. Alabama plucked Nate Oats out of Buffalo the same time we brough Buzz from VT. There would have been considerable uproar (as much uproar as Aggie hoops can muster, I guess) if we did that yet I'm guessing everyone would take Alabama's results from Oats vs what Buzz did here.

It's always a crapshoot and there are no sure things.

If it is Buck Mcmillan, then this coaching search journey feels like an "HGTV International House Hunter" episode. Typically in those episodes, the realtor shows you the best option but then lets you know all the cost associated (e.g. high HOA fees; construction delays, massive investment in foundation)...so typically, that does not work out for buyers...so then he moves to show you a more "compact" house or townhouse that saves you some money and allows you to continue with your "traveling" or buying furniture...both of the following options only have like 50% of all your requirements but at that point they sell you on price and you have additional resources for other things.

Bucky Mcmillan is the townhouse that we got for a much lower price so we can afford our "traveling" through Europe (football) and all the massive investment needed.

Me too. Saw his name floating around and thought to myself "ok, interesting" because I live in Alabama and am familiar with Samford, etc. Didn't know much about him at all but have loaded up the last day or so trying to find out more.

Bucky Ball on the Brazos shirts sell themselves and we can get that damn Beaver involved in NIL hopefully.

I've been busy most of the day, so I've read far less than the last few days, but from the knowledge I do have of Bucky Ball in general I'm not sold.

The coaching changes Twitter account pisses me off. They have been 70% certain on about 5 different candidates. Slapping crap on a wall and hoping it sticks.

I think the short version is that I'm over being boring, and if we're going to get weird let's just go all the way.

We're not going to beat Missouri, Texas, Arkansas or Oklahoma long term (let alone Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida) playing the same game everyone else is playing.
