The next step is for him to start doing this more consistently, but the confidence on the attacks is what I like best about that highlight package. If he starts finishing at that rate consistently then we are in business.

Kon Knueppel #7. Here is his play last night vs Miami.

He would be my choice after Liam McNeeley if we don't have a top 4 pick. I don't think he is going to be a star or a defensive stopper. But you can see him looking for the extra pass, he's making the right defensive rotations, he's grabbing rebounds over bigger guys. His stroke looks nice. Heady. Real lunchpail guy. Like having another coach on the court.

Shooting 46/40/90 for the season. 13.5p/3.8r/2.4a in just under 30mpg.

Negatives are he is probably 6'5 and 210lbs with a ~30-32" vertical. But should be a better shooter than Devin. And he is making the right rotations and fighting through screens.
I was watching back over these highlights again, and my real worry still like I said is whether he can actually stay on the court defensively. Watch at the 0:30 mark, his guy gets the ball, Kneuppel squares him up defensively like he's about to play D, and then his guy just runs RIGHT by him. Literally zero resistance from Kneuppel. In the NBA if that's who you are, you better be a lights out offensive player to make up for a shortcoming like that.

I agree. That is the worry for sure and why I like Liam McNeeley over him.

The other thing the Spurs could do is use that first pick on a guy like Malauch then Fleming and use the MLE to grab Luke Kennard - who we know is smaller, one of the best shooters in the league, and also awful defensively.

Finding that true D&3 player we need (basically a Trey Murphy) isn't extraordinarily easy. And there is concern that Knueppel will be so bad defensively that he is unplayable like Reed Sheppard - but at least he is like 5-6" taller than Reed.

That's what I was thinking about him staying on the court. He just looks slow, like a flat tire out there. He doesn't show much athleticism, but plays hard. Mainly i don't want another defensive liability. I don't see him getting quicker either, only slower with age.

McNeely I like a better, but I don't know that he will,be an all star. I tend to think there will be some sleepers in this draft that will surpass these guys in a few years.

I think it is possible that Miles Byrd becomes a Bruce Bowen (develops a corner three, is a lockdown defender, can't do literally anything else) or that Noa Essengue develops into a great two-way player, but they are PROJECTS. I just don't want to take a massive project with a 7th or 8th pick. And he might turn into a slightly taller, skinnier Sochan.

Tank watch:

Spurs vs Pelicans. Zion should cook against Bismack and Barnes.

Suns vs Grizzlies. Go Suns. Right the ship, dipships.

Celtics vs Raptors. Praying Scottie Barnes pulls off a miracle here.

Lakers vs Mavericks. Pure Chaos. Neither team really affects us, but I hope the Lakers lose by a million and Max Christie breaks Wilt's single game record.

Spurs lost to the 2nd worst team in the league, Suns unsurprisingly lost against... this time in OT. Raptors didn't pull off the upset.

Spurs are at 9th in the tank, moving below Portland.

Tank Watch 2/26

Raptors vs Pacers.. need Toronto to pull off the upset on the 2nd night of a BtB.

76ers vs Knicks. Need the 76ers to win, but they are the most pathetic franchise in the league.

Blazers vs Wizards, this should be easy for Portland... should be.

OKC vs Brooklyn. Go Nets. Punish yourself for not selling Cam Johnson for pennies on the dollar.

Hawks vs Heat: Need Miami to win.

Clippers vs Bulls: Need Chicago to win and Kawhi and Harden to lose. Come on Zach Collins, do something amazing.

Spurs vs Rockets. GoRocketsGo?

Spurs games up on other teams:
Bulls 2
Nets 3.5
76ers 4.5
RaptoYesrs 7
Tank Watch 2/27

Spurs. Raptors, 76ers, Bulls and Nets all lost, but the Blazers won and the Hawks lost.

With the Hawks loss, they dropped to 9th, but they are 5.5 games above 11th and 4 games above the Bulls at 10th. That moved them from 15th (playoff) to 11th worst, with a ~9% shot at top 4. Hawks are 1 game up on Portland for 10th.

Suns are half game above Atlanta and they play the Pelicans, so maybe Durant will decide to not suck. Also, Houston owns the Suns picks, so benefits us for the Suns to make the playoffs.

Atlanta at 11th and us at 9th gives us about a 30% shot at top 4.

Hawks +2 (5-5 last 10)
Blazers +1 (6-4 last 10)
Spurs 0
Bulls -2
Nets -3.5
76ers -4.5 (lost 9 straight)
Raptors -7
Tank watch 2/28

Suns lost because they are completely pathetic.

Embiid is officially out for the season.... so Philly probably tanks? Or they improve without his pathetic foul merchant ass. IDK.

Hawks +2 (5-5 last 10)
Suns +2
Blazers +1 (6-4 last 10)
Spurs 0
Bulls -2
Nets -3.5
76ers -4.5 (lost 9 straight)
Raptors -7

Hawks vs OKC - Go Thunder.

Blazers vs Nets. Would prefer Nets win here, but think Blazers win. Nets wins are harder to come by and we need them more.

Raptors vs Bulls. We have more ground to make up on the Raptors, but the Bulls are more likely to pass. I would rather the Raptors win. Gun for that 5th seed.

Pelicans vs Suns. Suns need to win at some point. Get back above Atlanta.

Yesterday was a good day for us. Hawks lost, Suns won, Blazers won, and Bulls won. Spurs still 9th in lottery odds.

Tank Watch 3/1

Suns +2.5
Blazers +1.5
Hawks +1.5
Spurs 0
Bulls -1.5
Nets -4
76ers -4.5 (lost 9 straight)

Spurs at Grizzlies
Warriors at 76ers

Fox really blew it for the Tank Watch last night.

Spurs are still 9th with 20% chance at top 4 pick and 51% chance at 9th
Hawks are tied for 10th with 11.6% chance at top 4 pick and 66% chance at 10th.

Suns +2
Blazers +1

Castle had 32 tonight. First person to drop 30+ on OKC since before Christmas. It's March.

This one was sick. No running start. Just vertical jump.

Kenrich Williams flopped so hard, he convinced himself he was hurt and started a fight. He, Julian, and Dort were ejected, Julian got a tech.

I hear you on a project. Kneuppel reminds me of a Dalton Knecht but not as good. Kawhi was a massive project, but he was drafted at 14 or so. I guess if we were going for a PG or SG, I'd be ok with drafting a proven player at 7 or 8. But personally I just don't like the highly rated wings or 4's in this draft besides cooper and maybe Ace. McNeely I like better, but he is a bit of a project too granted not somebody like Noa, and I wonder about his defense also.

Blazers choked away a double-digit lead to drop half a game behind Atlanta.
Hawks are 11th with a 9.4% shot at a top 4 pick and a 78% shot at 11th.

Tonight's games:

Blazers vs 76ers. Could go either way. More likely scenario is the 76ers tank to bottom five, so Blazers being above the Hawks helps us. But if we think we can get below the 76ers, we take every win we possibly can here.

Wizards vs Heat. Heat are only 1.5 games above Atlanta.

Kawhi shot 25% from three in college, and in the low 40's FG percentage in college. His shot was awkward first couple of years in the nba.

I remember Knecht at Tennessee, he was a great creator and shooter in college. He was the SEC player of the year. I don't disagree on the ceiling, I felt the same way about him before the draft. Always thought he had a low ceiling. I see Kneuppel as not a high ceiling also.

Kawhi also had elite size, length and athleticism and put up 16/11 in college. Miles Byrd is 190lbs and is one of the worst finishers in the paint in all of college basketball.

Remember that Knecht is like 9mo younger than Devin Vassell. He might have been a more polished scorer as a 5th year senior, but his ceiling in the NBA isn't that high. Kon is already a better passer and creator on offense and is shooting better from three than Knecht did.

Kawhi is a rare outcome. You can't base drafts on what Kawhi or Giannis or Jokic became.

Knecht was a good shot creator at Tennessee, but he was also significantly older and more experienced than anyone he played against and that needs to be taken into consideration. Think how much Devin Vassell would have dominated college basketball last year. Despite being drafted in the most perfect place for him, Knecht is nowhere to be found on the Rookie Ladder, which is top ten rookies, despite being top ten in minutes played by rookies.

Kon, on the other hand, is a freshman and still a teenager. He's also playing with a team full of 1st round picks and is expected to be one of three Duke freshman top ten picks this year. Being significantly younger, he has more room to grow.

This is also why Rasheer Fleming isn't going up higher in the draft, despite being a D&3 prospect with size. He's a junior and 21.

No Ja Morant, JJJ rolled his ankle in the first minute.. and they still turned it over on their last 4 possessions to lose by 2

For a variety of reasons including injuries, I'm not so sure morant is a player the grizzlies should continue to build around.

The Spurs' Mavs swap might be two years too late. Poor Mavs fans. Going from trading a top 3 player and being a contender to having to realistically think about trading the player they just traded for to expedite the rebuild.

Dallas controls their own pick in 25 & 26... Then it goes to a Charlotte in 27, swapped with OKC in 28, goes to Houston or Brooklyn in 29, then us in 2030.

But 2030 is the Minnesota swap, too. Spurs get best of Dallas, Minnesota or SA. I think both those will be lottery.

Raptors -7.5

Games tonight (bold is what helps our draft positions the most)

Nets vs Pistons
Spurs at Grizzlies
Warriors at 76ers

Fox really blew it for the Tank Watch last night.

Tank Watch 3/2

Spurs are still 9th with 20% chance at top 4 pick and 51% chance at 9th
Hawks are tied for 10th with 11.6% chance at top 4 pick and 66% chance at 10th.

Suns +2
Blazers +1
Hawks +1
Spurs 0
Bulls -2
76ers -4.5
Nets -5
Raptors -8

Team winning that helps our draft bolded:

Blazers vs Cavs
Bulls vs Pacers
Raptors vs Magic
Thunder vs Spurs
Suns vs Wolves

Rough night last night in tankland.

Tank Watch 3/3

Spurs are still 9th with 20% chance at top 4 pick and 51% chance at 9th
Blazers choked away a double-digit lead to drop half a game behind Atlanta.
Hawks are 11th with a 9.4% shot at a top 4 pick and a 78% shot at 11th.

Tonight's games:

Blazers vs 76ers. Could go either way. More likely scenario is the 76ers tank to bottom five, so Blazers being above the Hawks helps us. But if we think we can get below the 76ers, we take every win we possibly can here.

Wizards vs Heat. Heat are only 1.5 games above Atlanta.

Hawks vs Grizzlies.

Suns +2
Hawks +1.5
Blazers +1
Spurs 0
Bulls -2
76ers -4
Nets -4.5
Raptors -8

****in Grizzlies man. They were up and had turnovers on their last four possessions including with a tie game and 3 seconds left to lose to the Hawks. **** them.

Spurs are still 9th with 20% chance at top 4 pick and 51% chance at 9th
Hawks are tied with Phoenix for 11th, splitting the 11th and 12th odds for about 8% chance at top 4

Tank Watch 3/4

Raptors at Magic
Bucks at Hawks
Cavs at Bulls
76ers at Wolves
Nets at Spurs
Clippers at Suns

Suns +2
